Holy Thursday -Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper

Prayer Prompt before reading JN 13:1-15: Come, Holy Spirit, teach me how to pray, interpret the Scriptures for me so that I may know the Truth about who God the Father and God the Son are so that I may know who I am.

“I HAVE GIVEN YOU A MODEL TO FOLLOW, SO THAT AS I HAVE DONE FOR YOU, YOU SHOULD ALSO DO.” JN 13:1-15

Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.

Today, Holy Thursday, the Institution of the priesthood and Eucharist, Jesus gives us the first Mass. In John’s Gospel, he does not use the words of institution but rather focuses on the washing of the disciples feet. Jesus provides a model that mirrors the crucifixion.

The lowliest Jewish slave did not wash his master’s feet. This symbolizes the crucifixion. Some scripture scholar’s believe the washing of the feet symbolizes baptism. The teaching Christ is handing on to us is to be selfless. “There is no greater love than to lay one’s life down for one’s friends.” JN 15:13

God became a Man to show us how much the Father loves us, to redeem us by giving His own life up to atone for every sin, and be a model of holiness. This is true love. There is no greater love. This is what our hearts are truly yearning for. We are fulfilled when we are selfless and give up ourselves for the other, when we learn to serve.

Enter each room asking how you can help. Get off of screens and spend time with humans giving and receiving. Sacrifice what you want for the benefit of the other. At the heart of Holy Thursday, Jesus teaches us to be other-centered. It takes a lifetime, a vocation, and training our mind to wake each day and be other-centered. If you make this choice, the rewards are eternal!

Today’s challenge: Take time to go to watch the Easter Triduum, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday, the three highest feast days on all of the Church calendar. How did these events change YOUR life forever and all of human history? Jesus opens wide His heart for you, gives up His life for you, and desires a personal relationship with you. The hardest part, you have to carve out time to spend with Him each day! God doesn’t want to change you, He wants to transform your heart. Be not afraid. Ask God for His grace, it transforms what sin has damaged.

Be a servant, be a saint today!

God gave us his only son, Jesus, and Jesus gave up his life for our sins and that so we could live a normal life. He suffered for us, he gave his life for us, he is one with us, you just have to accept that. He is our Lord and our Savior, thank him.

I think that Jesus is trying to invite us to come be with him in the after life because this life is temporary and the after life is permanent.

Something that I got out of this was that Jesus is the ultimate role model for us. Jesus is the king of kings, the master of the universe, yet he decided to wash his followers feet. John the Baptist said that he is not worthy to untie his sandals, yet he here he is not only untying his disciples sandals, but washing them.

In today’s Gospel Jesus is reading a scroll in the synogogue and I think that Jesus specifically picked that scroll because it perfectly describes the work he has done on Earth. Then he ends it saying that the people who heard it fulfilled the scroll and this goes to show the smartness and cleverness of God.

To really be fulfilled and be fully one you have to give yourself up. You need to be completely selfless to be full of God’s grace. it’s a very hard thing to do and it will take time but being fulfilled and feeling loved is worth it. Once you give everything up to God it will be hard for a little bit but soon your life will be the best it has ever been you will have the best friendships, the best family, you will just have a good time and enjoy yourself because God is now within you.

“There is no greater love than to lay one’s life down for one’s friends.” Today God is telling me that a true friend would make sacrifices for you. A friend is someone who you can rely on without having a doubt. If you are hanging around people who are selfish and put you down, then get away from them, they aren’t friends they are just burdens. You need to find people who make you feel loved instead of hurt or left out or any of that. Yes I know we aren’t perfect and some people will make mistakes, but that’s what apologies are for. They help in times of need. Jesus is your real friend and Father, He died for you. Barely ever has someone died for you, if they have be grateful and love them forever for God has loved you.

Jesus walked into the sabbath on Sunday like he was supposed to and he was handed a scroll of Isiah. When he gets this scroll it talks about things that he has already done and prophets he has already fulfilled. This is so interesting to me because he gets a prophet that he has already fulfilled. Then he gave it back to them and said that this scripture Is fulfilled in your hearing. I’m not sure what that means fulfilled in your hearing. I think it has something to do with them being witnesses’ to God’s power and holiness.

in the the scripture it says that God doesn’t want to change us, to me this means that He truly does love us for what we are and how we are, that doesn’t mean that we can do anything and think that we will get to just go to heaven, no. We still have to be kind and loving and we will be fine, but the main thing is that God will always love us and give us another chance, its never to late to change how you look at your lives and the world.

When Jesus washes the feet of the apostles, it is a truly selfless act. Throughout the Gospels and Jesus’s life, He is always giving Himself for others and doing selfless acts while He is also saying that He is the King. Jesus didn’t come into this world to fight and use violence, He came here to spread love and peace and hope. Jesus gave Himself up for us on the cross and we need to recognize this every day and recognize the love He has for us that poured out from Him the day He was crucified.

What stuck out to me was the final sentence of the Gospel, it said “Today this Scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing.” When Jesus says that, I think he means that this Gospel is what you make it, like you decide what he means of the passage he read. You get to decide how much you believe and how much you trust Jesus.

When God sent Jesus down He shows His humility but now when Jesus washes His disciples feet that is part of how humble He was. God sent Jesus down because of how much He loved us. We all sacrifice things for others, now not as extreme as Jesus did, but we all have to follow Him. We need to give up some things and go help other people and it will fulfill us in the long-run.

Holy Thursday we celebrate Jesus one last time before Easter. During Easter we need to be reminded that the love of the father Jesus who died for us loved us so much he had us in mind when he died. God’s love is so great his word became flesh. So this Easter fully give yourself to Jesus and you will be rewarded with eternal life.

Have you ever gotten out of practice and your feet are hurt, smelly, and are covered with dirt. Well this is what happens to all of us, and when this happens we need to take a shower. Jesus in this story cleans the feet of his apostles and they don’t know what he is doing. When we sin, we are covered with such guilt that we can’t take it off; but we hide it. This sin can’t be showered off by ourselves because we can;t forgive our own sins. This water isn’t meant to make the feet clean, but the soul clean. This all takes place before the passion of Christ, and Jesus is telling us that he will save us from our sins, that he will pay the price. That he will set us free from this prison. Have we ever thought that we are still spinning, going back to that place. We are all in need of cleansing, but we ourselves can’t forgive it. Jesus can; and we all need to do the same thing by cleaning others, forgive them. As Venerable Kapaun said “if you fail to forgive, you fall in Faith”. Forgive, rise in Faith.

Today’s reading is our life in which we build our salvation. Jesus fulfilled the scripture he made the blind see the def hear! This is what makes him our God HIS love! There was a bank space in the scripture he FILLED it! That is amazing Jesus was the last piece of the puzzle. He is what united us with God. Without Jesus there may not have been any Catholicism or other religions! We are a puzzle and we have to find Jesus the last piece.

In today’s Gospel, I feel like Jesus was telling me how to love one another. Jesus made so many sacrifices for us that it makes it hard to understand how we can refuse to do little things for our friends and family. Doing simple acts is an amazing way to love and get closer to God. When we do things, it shouldn’t always be in front of others to get noticed, but for our personal benefit. Jesus washed the feet of his disciples to symbolize cleansing them from sin. Even though he never clearly stated that all of them were clean (Judas). Having one of your friends betray you is a horrible thing. Building strong relationships requires sacrifice, suffering, and humility. It is the same for building a relationship with God.

In the Gospel today it talks about how Jesus is the best role model for us. Jesus shows us right from wrong. It talks about how he washed the feet of his disciples, that just shows that Jesus cares about us and wants the best for us, so he shows us what we should live by.

When Jesus washes the feet of the apostles, it is a truly selfless act. Throughout the Gospels and Jesus’s life, He is always giving Himself for others and doing selfless acts while He is also saying that He is the King. God wants us to be friends with Him. He doesn’t want violence or harm he just wants love. Jesus knew all of this was about to come but he still did all of it for our sins, so we could be here today. We need to pay it back by spreading the faith and following Jesus.

In today’s gospel we see that Jesus becomes the lowest and most humble when he washes the feet of his disciples. He was supposed to have his feet washed because he is the Master, yet he bends down low, the Son of God, the King of Kings, and washes the dirty feet of his servants. It takes a lot of courage to wash another’s feet.

Jesus has loved all of us. He died on the cross for us. He died on the cross for us with the weight of everyone’s sin on him. He died for all of us knowing the pain he was going to go through. He did it though he went through all of that because he loves us. All things are possible through God.

He shows his apostles that he is equal to them by washing their feet and I think that at this point in lent and the Holy Triduum we just need to take time to reflect.

today i understood that to be a good friend is to make sacrifices and have humility. “he does not use the words of institution but rather focuses on the washing of the disciples feet. Jesus provides a model that mirrors the crucifixion.” “The lowliest Jewish slave did not wash his master’s feet.” we should want to do things for others, Like Jesus went through suffering for us, he allowed himself to be humiliated and tortured for us, also he washed feet which not even the lowliest of Jewish slaves did, Why? cause he IS humility, and he is Christ. And we cant even do one thing because we don’t want to? Or when others don’t do stuff because they are bad friends.

I got from this that everyone just needs to slow down and take a break. When you say “oh I’m too busy”, or “I can’t, I don’t have enough time”, Jesus feels hurt. He died and suffered tremendously because he loves us. To go out and to say that you don’t care and you aren’t going to pray or reflect on anything hurts him deeply.

Washing the feat was a job done by slaves. When Jesus washed his disciples feet he is having a personal relationship with the poor. Jesus came to show us how much Jesus loved us. There is no greater love than his. Just the washing of the feet shows how mush he loves us. He would do anything for us if we believe in him and trust in him.

At the heart of Holy Thursday, Jesus teaches us to be other-centered. When I hear other-centered I think of putting yourself last. Which is true but you can’t help others if you can’t even help yourself. It is like the saying you look at the splinter in your brother’s eye but you don’t see the log in your own. If you are in the state of helping others. Take the opportunity to do it.

But sometimes, we are friends with a group that really isn’t good for us. to pass from this world to the Father” Imagine if you knew you were an out to die, but you know that you need to let it happen. Jesus felt this pain none of us have had and none of us will ever have. On the Cross he felt the pain of the world. Jesus is in everyone. It is important to listen to one of the greatest phrases in the church, “love one another as I have loved you” Everyone we meet, we should treat like Jesus. Jesus suffered so we don’t have to suffer. Just as the barrabus video says, “Had to treat Jesus like Barabbas to treat Barrabus like Jesus” pray, love, and be kind. Try to treat all the barrabuses you know like Jesus.

This is true love. There is no greater love. This is what our hearts are truly yearning for. We are fulfilled when we are selfless and give up ourselves for the other, when we learn to serve. I think that the gospel is trying to tell us is that, God died and came back to us. He is like a boomerang, when you throw it, it comes back. God came back to us! We should celebrate, not for a free holiday so we don’t have to go to school, but because God will be Alive again! He did so much and died in the process and now he is coming back. We should go to mass Sunday because God will be waiting for us there and we should thank him for everything he has done for us. Our savior came back from heaven, that means he didn’t forget about us. He is here and he will always be here watching us everyday and taking care of us like a father does. Jesus is real and he is right in front of us. So let him in your house for he has died for our sins because he wanted us to live a good life. So we should be there with him every step of the way like he was there for us. We only have one God so we should worship him for taking care of us through our entire life!

Today Jesus washes the feet of the disciples, he shows selflessness, even when he is a king. Jesus is above everybody but he still washes the feet of sinners, why? Because God is good, he didn’t bring Jesus down and make him a king like he should have been. God made him the poorest, a slave. When Jesus washes the feet of the disciples he is portraying himself dying on the cross for our sins, as he washes the feet he is washing away our sins, cleaning our souls. Tonight we need to think about Jesus washing our feet and honor that up to him. And in these next days we need to try to connect with Jesus as he suffered these next few days years ago.

“Fully aware that the Father had put everything into his power and that he had come from God and was returning to God.”
I just like this line a lot. I’m not really sure why, maybe it’s the way it sounds when you read it, it’s rather poetic to me. But I also love the fact that Jesus was just fully aware of the fact that he was from God and was returning to him. I mean he had us in mind the entire time during his passion but before he began his agony in the garden and everything on the way to Calvary, he was thinking about God. He was thinking, not about the pain, not about death, but that he was returning to God. To me that says, that death isn’t something we should fear. I, quite honestly, have never been afraid of death. I don’t know if it’s because I just can’t wrap my head around what death really is or if it’s because I simply have no fear but what Jesus says is just a reminder that death isn’t a bad thing. When we die, it’s actually us returning home to our loving father, like the prodigal son. We were sent to earth and when we die, we return and God receives us with open arms.
