Jesus said to his disciples:
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets.
I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.
Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away,
not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter
will pass from the law,
until all things have taken place.
Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments
and teaches others to do so
will be called least in the Kingdom of heaven.
But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments
will be called greatest in the Kingdom of heaven.”  Mt 5:17-19

As Jesus continues the Sermon on the Mount after the beatitudes, he continues to encourage us to believe in Him and fight for sanctity.  He is telling the Jews that the Mosaic Law will never pass away and whoever does not keep the commandments will be “the least in the Kingdom of Heaven”.  He is teaching the Jews and us today that He is not here to “abolish but to fulfill the law”.  What does that mean?  Jesus comes as God in the flesh to teach us compassion.  His mission was to save us but first to reveal every Truth the Father wanted us to know.  All of the prophets spoke about the coming of Jesus.  Know He is here and is still here today in Spirit.  ”Where ever two or three are gathered in my name, I am there with you.”  Mt.18:20  He is present in the Eucharist, in the Adoration chapel, and carries us when we have sinned the worst of sins.  This is profound! Jesus set an example of love.  He wants us to be compassionate.  This is a spin off from yesterday’s Gospel, “You are the salt of the earth” and “the light of the world”.  Love is difficult and complicated, but that is why Jesus came; to show us how to love.  Love causes suffering and pain.  This suffering and pain has turned into joy because of Jesus Christ.  What have you done in your life that was really hard and required patience, suffering, and pain that did not end in joy.  God has put special people around you.  Take time today to show them compassion by just being kind and generous.

Today’s challenge: Keep the commandments.  Be kind and generous to someone without expecting anything in return and offer it up to Jesus.  Then, see how many days in row you can do it!

Pray, love, don’t worry, laugh, and enjoy your day!

Become a saint!
