St. Paul reminds us in the first reading that we are called to be Christ for others, “children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine like lights in the world, as you hold on to the word of life, so that my boast for the day of Christ may be that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.” 1 Phil2:12-18

Jesus teaches us what it means to be a follower (disciple) of Christ, “Whoever does not carry His own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.” Lk 14:25-33

Jesus gave all. Look at the crucifix. His arms open to receive you and His head bent to kiss you. To be His follower Jesus reminds us we must die to ourself, pick up our cross, renounce all possessions when called to and follow Him. How difficult this teaching is, but the great thing is that when we do we are in complete peace and joy, our hearts desire!
