Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary.

On the first day of the week,
Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early in the morning,
while it was still dark,
and saw the stone removed from the tomb.
So she ran and went to Simon Peter
and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them,
“They have taken the Lord from the tomb,
and we don’t know where they put him.”

Mary stayed outside the tomb weeping.
And as she wept, she bent over into the tomb
and saw two angels in white sitting there,
one at the head and one at the feet
where the Body of Jesus had been.
And they said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?”
She said to them, “They have taken my Lord,
and I don’t know where they laid him.”
When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus there,
but did not know it was Jesus.
Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?
Whom are you looking for?”
She thought it was the gardener and said to him,
“Sir, if you carried him away,
tell me where you laid him,
and I will take him.”
Jesus said to her, “Mary!”
She turned and said to him in Hebrew,
“Rabbouni,” which means Teacher.
Jesus said to her,
“Stop holding on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father.
But go to my brothers and tell them,
‘I am going to my Father and your Father,
to my God and your God.’”
Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples,
“I have seen the Lord,”
and then reported what he told her. JN 20:1-2, 11-18

Mary Magdalene was a repentant sinner who was given a very high honor by Jesus, to be the first (in written Scripture; Church tradition believes He visited His mother first) to see and speak to the resurrected Jesus.  There is a lot riding on this Scripture today. We have a witness who sees Jesus risen from the dead.  This is the beginning of faith, do you believe He resurrected or do you believe He never did.  Is Mary lying or telling the truth? We can’t make this stuff up.  Mary receives the honor of being the first to see and hear the risen Christ. Amazing!  She is weeping, this shows that she was very good friends with Jesus and that Jesus had very close friends.  It shows that men AND women were close followers and friends of Jesus.

Today, if a priest, deacon, pope, bishop or anyone in the hierarchy of the Church has friends that are girls they are criticized.  Jesus shows that it is important to have friends of both genders.  Last, Mary did not recognize Jesus until He called her name.  Jesus calls each one of us by name and we are all equally important to Jesus.  We are each chosen for a mission.  He loves us more than we love ourselves and His mission has always been to get our souls back to the Father in heaven.  It is time to allow Christ to call you by name and start a friendship with Him that will last from now into eternity.  It is the greatest friendship anyone could have.  Time is a gift, use it wisely to work on relationships with those God has put around you, most importantly a relationship with His Son, our Savior.

Today’s challenge: Develop a friendship with Jesus. Read “Did Jesus Really Rise from the Dead?” by Carl E. Olson or watch Fr. Mike Spitzer’s video on the Shroud of Turin
