In today’s Gospel, Jesus makes it very clear before He enters His passion that the heart of His message is to love. Sometimes we get carried away in the details and forget the most important thing: “Love one another as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one ‘s life for one’s friends.” Jn 15:12-16

Who comes back after being killed by our sins and says I love you and I forgive you, this is radical and extraordinary love. How much does God love us? He gave us His only Son, He put that Son through an awful Passion, and all God wants is for us to be reunited with Him through His Son. This is powerful. God is love. We are made of this love. We are called to share this love. When is the last time you layed down your life for your family members and friends, a stranger in your community? Me, either. This is a hard teaching to do in daily life. It is hard to persevere after being hurt or to continually give and never receive anything back. It is hard to forgive and sacrifice but see no immediate results. Love is a funny thing and it is hard. In the end, the joy you receive from persevering, sacrificing, and forgiving is all worth it. It makes you holy and transforms you into Christ. The rewards are eternal. Finally, Jesus says, “It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain.” God has asked you to be the best version of yourself, discover your gifts, and share them with others so that your love will remain and bear great fruit. God has a special plan for you. Be brave and ask Him what it is and for the courage to follow it. It will be a great adventure! Pope Francis said, “Don’t expect an easy life, just one full of love.” Amen.
