“I HAVE COME TO SET THE EARTH ON FIRE” LK 12:49-53

Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.

Prayer Prompt before reading LK 12:49-53: Come, Holy Spirit, teach me how to pray, interpret the Scriptures for me so that I may know the Truth about who God the Father and God the Son are so that I may know who I am.

Jesus uses powerful words today. “I have come to set the earth on fire” and “I did not come to bring peace but division.”

This is hard to understand. Don’t forget the power of fire in our physical and spiritual world. In our physical world, many forests and homes have been destroyed due to fire. In our spiritual world at Pentecost the fire of the Holy Spirit came down on our first followers, the disciples, and today through us to build something new.

This is the fire Jesus can’t wait to unleash on the world, a dysfunctional family in His eyes. The division He is speaking of is a world that once had no future. There is no hope in a fallen world, only dysfunction, and no direction or purpose.

I think of it as a burning field of weeds and brush that must be burned to create new growth so everything can come to live in it. Jesus came to bring the human family hope. He came to bring all of the dysfunction in us out and into a rightly ordered life and rightly ordered worship. He came to give us purpose and mission, to do the will of His Father.

Now, in this time and place, we have a decision to make. We can die to ourselves, our fallen human nature/flesh, worldly goods, and put on Christ to defeat the devil. It is extremely difficult to enter heaven because dying to ourselves and doing the Will of God is tough. It requires a lot of searching and wrestling with God. It requires daily prayer and reading the Scriptures. It requires fasting and telling ourselves no.

So, why do it? Well, meaningful suffering brings joy! Sacrificial love, agape love, God’s love for us on the cross brings joy! God wants us to be back with Him forever. He desires a friendship with His Creation.

“There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends”-Jesus at the Last Supper

The joy we receive from a rightly ordered life and more importantly spending the rest of our lives in the glory of God is so powerful it looks beyond the hardship. Christ, too, saw this wonderful glory of heaven while on His journey through His Passion and Death. He knew well it would all be worth it. Do you believe? Are you ready to start fighting with your whole heart, soul, mind and will? Our eternal destiny depends on it.

Today’s challenge: Look at the big picture and where your life fits into salvation history now. Reflect on the decisions you have made in the past and how they have formed you today to be who you are. Your future depends on your will and God’s grace. What do you need to change? Seek and you will find. Never give up. Believe. Jesus, thank you for giving us hope in your resurrection!

Be a servant, be a saint today!

#Christian YOLO

Sacrifice joyfully for another today!

This scripture is calling me to sacrifice some of my self for God. Sacrifices bring us joy. This is also calling me to pray to God more, and make a relationship with him. We should sacrafice things we love for God!

What stood out to me was when Jesus said “I have come to set the world on fire.” and “I have not come to bring peace, but division.” I think this means that if we are holy and stay away from bad places, we will be with God forever. If we go to bad places and don’t care about others then we will suffer forever in hell.

Something that stuck with me when I read this is that Jesus says to die to ourselves. The reason I say this stuck weight me becasue we sin everyday. when Jesus says to die to ourselves he wants to say stop sinning come to me and be with me. And when he says to set the world on fire is like, he trying to say in my opinion is that he wants us to be on fire/filled with the Holy Spirit. He wants us to be on fire for him and to Love him and to come with him.

This gospel today tells us that suffering is joy. It tells us that when we give up something for one another we bring our self joy. As God says “there is no greater love than to lay down ones life for ones friends”. Suffering an giving up for one another is love. He wants us to light the world on fire with our love and our sacrafice.

“I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!” Stuck out to be because it means Jesus came here to set the word on fire, to stir the fire in our hearts, to know that he came for us. To know he died for us and set the world ah fire. This says he came to light that fire in our hearts.

I think Jesus is trying to tell me that we should live with the fire and energy of faith. We should always want to bring ourselves closer to God. With the fire of the holy Spirit we should let people know that there is a God that loves them. If the world is set on fire there will be a resurgence of faith.

I am called to serve and I think no man or women is able to serve God to there full potential. God created everything so the least we can do it pray. We are made to serve, help people, Spread the Gospal, and love everybody

Jesus says at the beginning that he will “set the world on fire” and he wishes it was already blazing. This means that He came to help the world and He wishes it didn’t need help. He then says that He will divide households, this means that We can’t hurt each other if we are divided.

Jesus is telling us to be humble with our faith. Not to use your faith as an excuse to get away with things. Don’t let gods plan fool you, your life may seem bad or it may seem like God is punishing you but he never is. He is teaching you how to trust his plans for you. Sometimes you have to think of how Moses did not remove the red sea, but he parted it which means God wont always remove your problems, but he will help you through them

I HAVE COME TO SET THE EARTH ON FIRE” What that means to me is that Jesus is one and only God and we need to come through him. When Jesus was talking about dividing family. What I thought that meant is that we need to all strive to go to heaven or else some of us will be separated in the spiritual world.

Today’s Gospel talk about setting the world on fire, and seperating us from the ones we love and care about most. I think Jesus said that because he wants us to know that we must love everybody equally like brothers and sisters. Not to hate on each other, try to be kind to each other even if there considered our ” Worst Enemy!” Over all Jesus just wants us to love each other equally like brothers and sister in Christ.

In today’s gospel, Jesus told me to understand that life will NOT be easy. I need to trust Him. I have made good decisions and bad decisions in the past. The truth is that I really haven’t put my life into the hands of God. I need to change. God knows everything. He knows the truth about all of our lives and if we truly love Him or not. I think that when Jesus says, “I will bring division, not peace,” it means that he will know who is really worthy of the kingdom of God and who shall not be let in. He will divide the sinners from the ones who truly have faith in Him.

I think that when Jesus says “I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!”, he means that he wishes that we would stop worrying about the anxieties of our jobs and our lives, and just open up to God so that he can teach us to go out and spread the word. When the Gospel says “Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. From now on a household of five will be divided, three against two and two against three; a father will be divided against his son and a son against his father, a mother against her daughter, and a daughter against her mother, a mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.”, I believe that this shows and says that some of us may not chose the right path, to either a religious vocation or to be married, and may not go to heaven. Either way, we are the ones who get to choose. We have free will to make our own decisions. Whatever we decide in the end, all that we need to do is remember that God loves us either way.

The fire Jesus is talking about, spiritually its the Holy spirit. The Holy Spirit burns within us, and what I’m taking away from this scripture reflection is that fire and flames doesn’t always have to be a bad thing. I think Jesus is telling us he came to set the world on fire to bring us to the right order to direct us back to the Father. just like Mr. Goertz said “I think of it as a burning field of weeds and brush that must be burned to create new growth so everything can come to live in it.” he came to burn the world to bring it to a better place.

I love this one so much because I feel so drawn to the meaning of it and to be honest, I want to be someone who sets the world on fire with the faith, and I do really wish it was already ablaze. My heart truly does ache for the people who don’t know Jesus and my heart because I know I can know him better. So I really hope one day I will set others on fire, along with myself, so we can together, set the whole world on fire. Because we all should want to just burn for Jesus.

This part sticks out to me, because God wishes to light the world on fire with the Holy Spirit and His love! Out of ashes grows new life. Have you ever heard that the National Forests sometimes purposely light fires? The fire is a way to get a fresh start, to get rid of everything bad. Additionally, in the part where the Scripture says, “but rather division.” I think He’s telling us that He doesn’t want us all to be the same. Instead, He wants each and every one of us to be unique in our own way. His Kingdom is not for everyone.

Everybody has to sacrifice something in order to reach God. Sacrificing time for something you do at home or just praying whenever you aren’t doing anything is like how Jesus unleashed a fire to bring us good will. Suffrage is bad, but meaningful suffrage is good since you suffer for something good, that being God.
He’s our one and only yearn, but we just can’t see through the material goods and items in our lives. Sacrifice for God is the best thing we can do to be able to see God.

I think the gospel is trying to tell us is that, fire can be a good thing and bad thing at the same time. Fire on earth can be very destructive, it destroys stuff and makes peoples life miserable, but at the same time it can give people warmth it can give people food without poisoning them (cooked food). Fire on heaven is good. We got a taste of the fire of heaven when the tonges of fire came down on the disciples and it was a good thing because they can preach and everyone, no madder the language, could here and understand it. The disciples listened to God and something good happened to them. If we don’t truly love God then instead of a good fire we will get the fire on earth, a destructive fire. Thats why we need to follow God and his commandments.

and how I wish it were already blazing!”, that tells us that everyone here has the same opportunity to get to Heaven. However, the “division” that Jesus is referring to tells us that not everyone will follow the teachings of God and enter into Heaven. The aforementioned fire is like a renewal by the Holy Spirit to get back on track to the expedition to Heaven, and God wants the world to be renewed of sin and wrongdoing into a cleansed atmosphere that leads to peace.

In this scripture, something that stuck out to me was how it talked about Jesus’s powerful words. “I have come to set the earth on fire” and “I did not come to bring peace but division.” I also like how it said “This is the fire that Jesus cant wait to unleash on the world”

I think God is trying to tell me to be humble and not to be the middle of everything and he wants me to follow him and life wont be easy every time it will be hard some days but not to ever stop because I’m not a quitter and God is not a quitter and we need to act more like the Lord and change ourselves to be more be more helpful but we also always need to be ourselves and not to change yourself to be like somebody else like a classmate or friend just be YOURSELF

What I think God is saying is that sometimes we will make mistakes on earth and we need to go through hard things like being mad at are loved ones to recognize that we love them and If we try to Do our best here on earth to achieve what we all dream about Heaven. When God said he was bringing Fire when fire happens after it all goes away we get new life grass starting to come back little plants coming back so maybe it means that new life in heaven with God after we leave earth.

what I understood was that Jesus wanted to set the earth on fire and how I wish it was blazing he said that because that was satan wants and he is trying to trick us into thinking he is better that God but he is not he does not care about you he just wants to make God mad but God loves you and wants the best for you but earth is the test that is why God gave you free will you can either do great or not it is all you on jugement day it is just you no one else you cannot say well this person made me no a sin is a sin.

I think what God is telling me in today’s gospel it tells me that I should make sacrifices for myself. Satan is trying to trick us, but shall not listen. Jesus is telling me to be a humble person that is able to spread the word of God. Many people think that having sacrifices is going to make us miserable, but that’s not the case! Sacrifices make us happy at the end because we get this feeling of happiness and of being proud of ourselves that’s what I think that this Gospel is saying today! God loves you!!

What I think God is saying today is that we need a relationship with God . When God says I have come to set the earth on fire I think It means that after fire new life starts to come back and there are flowers and new grass so earth we will notice all of our mistakes but when we are in heaven it is new life with God.

When the gospel said “I have come to set the world on fire”. What I think it meant was that Jesus will come and set the world on fire with God’s love for us.

I think today in the Gospel God is telling us that when He comes again that everyone will stand for themselves, and the choices everyone makes will determine who you are separated from and who you are together with. Also when Jesus told them this, he was telling them that after he dies and is risen that families will be divided because of what they believed.

I think that god is trying to tell me that we can chose to follow God or follow satan and what we chose is what we go to on judgement day

What God is trying to tell me is Jesus wants all of us to burn away the bad stuff, like our sins. So when God is trying to tell us or help us we must not create a barrier and block him out and if we do God wants us to burn away the barrier and try again.
