Beloved, we love God because
he first loved us.
If anyone says, “I love God,”
but hates his brother, he is a liar;
for whoever does not love a brother whom he has seen
cannot love God whom he has not seen.
This is the commandment we have from him:
Whoever loves God must also love his brother.
Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is begotten by God,
and everyone who loves the Father
loves also the one begotten by him.
In this way we know that we love the children of God
when we love God and obey his commandments.
For the love of God is this,
that we keep his commandments.
And his commandments are not burdensome,
for whoever is begotten by God conquers the world.
And the victory that conquers the world is our faith. 1 Jn 4:19-5:4
John reminds us where love comes from and how we are called to love. ”If anyone says, ‘I love God,’ but hates his brother, he is a liar.” We cannot pray our hearts out, put on a school uniform, attend Mass on Sundays and say we are Catholic, then go home, to school, or anywhere and be mean to people, gossip, spread rumors, bully, and hurt others. We are lying to ourselves and not really loving God. We cannot pray for an end to abortion, then text mean things about people on social media or bully people at school. True love must be the intention of our heart for all and it flows from God through us to others. If we truly love God, we keep all of His commandments. ”His commandments are not burdensome”. His commandments were given to us out of love to protect us from misery and to protect us from evil, from losing our soul and His grace. If we believe God gave us commandments to take away our fun, we are listening to the deception of the devil. The commandments lead to the true desire of our heart, love, goodness, kindness, eternal glory with God, our heavenly home.
Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit,
and news of him spread throughout the whole region.
He taught in their synagogues and was praised by all.
He came to Nazareth, where he had grown up,
and went according to his custom
into the synagogue on the sabbath day.
He stood up to read and was handed a scroll of the prophet Isaiah.
He unrolled the scroll and found the passage where it was written:
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to bring glad tidings to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to let the oppressed go free,
and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord.
Rolling up the scroll, he handed it back to the attendant and sat down,
and the eyes of all in the synagogue looked intently at him.
He said to them,
“Today this Scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing.”
And all spoke highly of him
and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his mouth. Lk 4:14-22
Jesus reveals the greatest Truth today, He is the Messiah. He stands in His home Temple, reads the prophecy of Isaiah, then says, “Today this Scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing”. Is there any other way we need to hear it then straight from His mouth? Jesus just spoke to the world, He is the Messiah. The one to set us free from sin and death and an opportunity to reconcile with God that was not available before. This is life changing, it is revolutionary. It is the most bold statement by any person. Therefore, it is easy to see why the Jews rejected Him. He was a poor man (from the other side of town), the son of a carpenter, an ordinary family. When He reveals himself to his closest companions, the disciples, they often have a hard time believing him and reject him, too. It is so difficult to wrap our heads around the idea that Jesus was the God-Man. Love changes that for all of us. As John closes his letter in the first reading, he says, “And the victory that conquers the world is our faith”. Human reason can only take us so far. We must take the leap and rely on faith. It is a difficult leap, but it conquers the world and leads us to the promised land. Do you believe? Are you ready to start loving? Love is a decision. It is what we are designed for and how we have entered into existence. Stop fighting it, stop doubting, and begin not only to exist, but live. St. Pope John Paul II said the Christian life is “a great adventure”. ”Be not afraid”. Start living!
Today’s challenge: Prove to God you love Him by following the commandments and treating others the way you want to be treated. Love. Believe.
Be a servant, become a saint!
#Christian YOLO
We need to be respectful and kind to everyone we encounter.
You cannot love god and not love your neighbor. As the bible says for whatever you do to the least of my people, that you do unto me¨
# Praise Him
Jesus is trying to tell me to love everyone around me and not just Him.
Whenever people at school asks us if we love God we always say yes, but then we go out saying we hate others around us. We should all learn how to love everyone and we would then truly love God.
I believe that God was trying to tell us that no matter what we do He will still love us.
Jesus reveals to us that he is the Messiah and the least we could do in return for him becoming man and dying for us is to follow his commandments.
The commandments lead to the true desire of our heart, love, goodness, kindness, eternal glory with God.
Jesus says you cannot love God and hate your neighbor, like the quote ¨whatsoever you do to the least of my people, that you do unto me”
# can i get a praise him
This is saying that if we don’t love each other there is no way we can love God. He is also saying that we must love each other to find the true way to God
This passage is telling me that if we truly love God we will follow his teachings and love our neighbors and everyone on Earth, or else we don’t truly love God if we don’t spread his teachings by being kind to people on Earth.
To me this is saying that to love God you also have to love your brother because God gave you your brother and if you hate your brother you are saying that you hate what God created.
In today’s reading it shows us that we should love everyone because we are all a child of God. We should not think or worship others things and just all follow God to our best. We will all struggle at times but that is when we have each other to help pick each other up and keep following God.
I know that God loves me and He has endless love for me but I think I need to show the same for Him. I think I should get off my phone and go spend time with Him in prayer.
I thing God is telling me to just stay with the faith through good and bad times.
We should love every one because every one is made in the image and likeness of God so if we don’t love them we don’t love God.
My reflection from today’s Gospel is to love God you must also love other people. It is easier to become closer to God by loving your family and friends. Also you must follow the commandments and their not there to hold you back there their to help you get to Heaven.
Whenever someone asks us if we love God we always say yes, but then we go out saying that we hate or dislike some of the people around us. We should learn how to love everyone around us and then we can truly love God.
Jesus is telling me that he wants us to follow his commandments and act like him at school and do the same thing at home instead of only acting like him at school and then gossiping at home.
In today´s gospel God tells us as clear as he can, if we can´t love others, who we can see, then how will or how can we love God, who we can´t see. It is always easier to love or believe in something that you can see, but God we can´t see, so we have to try and think even harder about it. So I think the best way we can grow closer to God is to start loving your siblings, parents, friends, and as Jesus says in another Gospel love your enemies. So if we love others and God we are living how God wants us to live and we are becoming the best version of ourselves.
I learned that since we go to a Catholic school and attend Mass does not mean we are true Catholics. I also learned that love is a decision.
Hello
Today I’m going to live out the commandments not only to be kind but to grow in my faith with God.I going center my day around treating others the same way i want to be treated.
this passage is telling me not to lie and to give all I have to jesus
God is are one and only true fulfillment. We need to be ready for when he returns.
To love God we his people must truly and fully believe in him. We must also truly love everyone around us and keep his commandments to love God. If anyone believes in him and follow his commandments then they will be begotten.
I think God is telling me that I must love others in order to love him. I also need to learn more about him through scriptures, so I can love and serve him better.
You don’t love God if you don’t love your brothers and sisters.
In order to prove that we love God, we must show that same love that we show to God to our brothers and sisters everyday.
if we don’t like someone that is like saying we don’t like God we should all love everyone with our whole heart and mind.
We need to make sure that we are spreading the Word to everyone and not being mean. We cant just halfway be good catholics we need to always be kind with our thoughts, actions, and words.
You can’t say something in public to sound good and then be a hypocrite and do the opposite. You need to do what you say, as John says. Be kind to everyone you encounter.
I learned that God is always with us and when we feel alone, then we can turn to Him. We also need to be ready for when he returns.
We need to love God and beiieve in him just as much as we need to love our neighbor and trust in them
This is telling me that I cannot pretend to be catholic and go home and say mean things. I need to devote my whole life and soul to Jesus and live a fully Catholic life.
you cannot love God without loving everyone else
This means to me Jesus loves all and you have to love your brother because if you say you love god and don’t love your brother then your a liar and so Jesus wants us to love our whole family and him so we can be more like Christ.
This taught me to be kind to others even if they’re not my friends, my enemies, r even the people that are mean to me. This also taught me to treat everyone with love and not hate.
I believe the passage is asking how can you love someone you can’t see if you don’t love someone you can see. Jesus wants us to love one another so we can love and get closer to him.
That God is telling us that we need to be faithful and not lie.
God should not have to show us countless proof for us to believe. We should want to believe in this perfect being that has given us hope of eternal life.
It shows us how much we really believe about God and what we are not so sure about.
we should love everyone no matter what and be respectful
that God is nice and loves us
In today’s reading, I found that God tells us not to pretend to be catholic, for a school, and church, but to go and act like God through our families and friends. I personally believe in this God tells me to do more for him in home. Weather that be a simple prayer, or praying for hours upon end. In today’s scripture God hits one of the weak points in some catholic’s in our school, we don’t act God’s Will at home, and we need to start.
We need to love God more and turn to him whenever we need him. We also need to love our parents more and respect them.
God is telling us to be kind to everyone and set a good example for everyone.
This passage teaches us to be kind to everyone we meet even if its a stranger.
This is telling us that we need to lave every one. We need to love, worship and pray to God but, we also need to treat our neighbors how we would like to be treated. We need to have full faith in Jesus. We need to believe even though we cant see. We need to read scripture, go to Mass and, and receive the sacraments we can.
It is telling us that we need to love each other just like we would love our family members, but not just do we love God but so we can all get along and and not get mad at each other.
This means we should love and be kind to everyone, even if they have been mean to you. We should always treat others with love not hate.
That even though we might think we love God we really don’t because if we don’t be kind to everyone else right after it doesn’t make sense.
This scripture says that we can´t pretend to be something we´re not. God will see straight through us. We need to follow the commandments everywhere; not just in front of our teachers.
i think that this passage is trying to show us there is no reason to be afraid because God will protect us.
God is telling me that we have to focus on the good things of others and learn to love other people.
This shows how much we should love God and how much God loves us. It also shows that God shouldn’t have to show us proof for us to believe in Him and His love. We should and want to believe in the perfect being that has given us hope of eternal life.
You can’t say that you love God but you hate your brother! O_O
Apparently you are a liar.
It takes a lot of self- confidence to love all your enemies
Especially when they wanna knock your teeth out.
that God will do anything for us and he loves us some much
God wants us to be true to ourselves and to others. He doesn’t want us to hate others and say we love him he wants us to love everyone equally. He says its not right for us to just pray when we’re told and then start doing wrong things. His wants us to be honest, honest with our true selves.

That God will do anything for us and that he loves us and will always forgive us.
This is telling me that I should be nice to everyone.
You can not love God if you don´t love your neighbor. So we must love our neighbors as ourselves and treat them how we want to be treated.
God is telling the people that he has come and that no one should fear for if they trust in the Lord then all they need to worry about is God. God is also trying to tell us that we should love everyone including God and our enemies, for as the First Reading said that if one loves God but not his brother then he is a liar. So we must treat everyone we meet with respect and trust in God so that who ever we meet will be nice and that we will all be able to live in harmony and love each other.
This is telling us that we need to be strong in our faith and love for God.
Before loving God, we must first love others and forgive them. Then we may truly love God.
We should always be respectful towards other people and other religious relics or rosary’s and we should also be respectful towards Jesus.
God is telling me to love everyone, including my enemies.
God is telling me to love my neighbors and family so I can love God. He is telling to that I cannot hate my sister and love him at the same time
Today I learned that I need to love and be kind to everyone around everyone I know. I need to be prayerful and treat everyone with respect and dignity and love everyone no matter what.
Jesus is telling us to follow him more devoutly than anything else in our lives. We must not try to fake our Catholic Faith in any way, shape, or form.
You cannot love god and not love your neighbor. Jesus is trying to show us that we should believe in God and not need proof.
We really need to love our neighbor and love the people who are mean to us. The gospel today is telling us the golden rule.
Today I think God is trying to tell us we must love all no matter what and that hating anything is hating everything. Everything is God’s creation so if we can not accept what God as made as good we are against all of God’s creation. If our love isn’t great enough with what we can see how can it even be there for the invisable
If we can´t love the people we have today, we could never truly love God. If we LOVE EVERYONE we can also LOVE GOD.
Jesus is telling us that we need to follow the commandments. We should always be kind and loving towards each other.
If you love God but not love neighbor or even yourselves you are a big liar. You need to love everyone like Jesus would.
God loves us no matter what and she should be kind to everyone we meet. We should love everyone equally just like how God loves us.
We all must be kind and loving to everyone or we can’t love God. If we aren’t and we “love” God then we are liars.
God wants us to love everyone as we love our family. And wants us to follow all the commandments he has set for us.
I think that God is saying that He gave His only son so that we can be forgiven and go to Heaven. The least we could do is follow Him and His commandments.
He is telling me to follow his commandments because they are the true desire of our heart.
We say we love God even though we can’t see him, but the people that we encounter in our everyday lives we don’t always like them. We need to love others just as we love the Lord our God. God loves us and made us to love, so why is it so hard to love one another. Treat others the way you want to be treated. You want people to be kind to you, love you and appreciate you; so, we need to be kind to one another, love each other as brothers and sisters in Christ, and appreciate and acknowledge the people in our lives.
God is telling me to love my neighbors and follow His commandments. God is in everyone so if we hurt our neighbor we are disrespecting God. We cannot love God and hate our neighbors.
I think that we need to be nice and have faith in God. Also we need to listen to what God is saying to us.
In order to love GOD you have to love others first.
Jesus is telling us today that in order to love him we must love everyone.
You cannot love God but not your neighbor. Whoever loves God loves his neighbor.
God wants us to be happy by following him. and he wants the best for us
Don’t say one thing and do another. It is easy to see through lies.
That we should treat everyone like God does. Also God loves us no matter what we do.
Jesus is telling me to today that if i love God then I should love people around me too.
In today´s reading Jesus is telling us that we must love are neighbors and be kind to others just like how we would want to be treated.
I think Jesus was showing me that I need to treat everyone with the same respect that I want.
Jesus is trying to tell me to love everyone around me and not just him. We not only need to love everyone but also to be kind and generous to one another.
I think God and Jesus are telling us that we should love everyone as they are and try are best to not judge people and to spread the word of God to everyone. Also to be missionaries of God. Also to try to help others as best as we can also that God will do anything for us and loves us very much
We should treat others as we would want to be treated and if we truly love God we will give everything up to be with him.
God wants us to be pure and live a holy life with him we must love him and praise him with all our hearts along with ourselves and our neighbor because we were created in his image so we are perfect
We must love everyone. Don’t be a hypocrite and say we are catholic then go out and be mean or disrespectful. Be Christ like.
Jesus is calling us to love so we can make this whole world love one another. He asks us to follow his commandments with love and faith.
Jesus is telling us that we should be kind and loving towards each other. We should forgive enemies and become a better friend of Christ. Jesus loves us very much and wants us to be happy.
We need to truly love God and Truly be with him always
It amazes me that Jesus can say 9 small words and have everyone speak highly of him like he gave an hour long speech. This just shows the power in the word of God.
This is telling me that God wants us to go and make friends and talk to him like he is a friend and to. Not be afraid and God will protect us. And to no pretend to be something that were not because God can see right through us.
Today Jesus is telling us that we should proclaim the word of the Lord and treat others respectfully
Jesus is telling us that in order for us to truly love him we must love all of our siblings. We must full devote ourselves t him but we cannot do so if we don’t love our brothers and sisters.
In todays reading God is telling us that he is inside every one of us and that he loves all of us very much. He is saying that we cannot say that we love him when we go home and be rude to people or say that you ” hate someone” because then you are being rude to someone with God inside of them.
God wants us to live the faith and have trust in Him. We need to keep God in mind throughout the whole day, instead of just school and Mass. We need to fully believe in Christ. He told us in today’s gospel that He is the one true Messiah, so we need to listen to what He is trying to tell us and apply it to our lives.
I think this scripture is trying to say how God will love us no matter what. We can’t just not love our neighbors and then love God. God’s the who will love us no matter what we did. All we have to do is trust him and it will be a safe ride. God’s love us so deeply that he died and a cross for us and have an eternal reward
We can not learn to love god if we don’t learn to love others first.
I think this gospel is saying that you cannot love God if you do not love everyone around you because God is in everyone
Personally, I think this talks about how you can not truly love God if you don’t love your neighbor also. We need to be kind and caring towards others even if they aren’t that way towards us.
This means that we should be nice to others, and that we need to treat others with love and respect not with hatred and unkindness.
The Gospel is saying that if we don’t like a person , then we don’t like God/Jesus. We need to treat everyone the way that we would want to be treated.
This passage is saying that we can not hate people and we must forgive. No matter what the person did or what they didn’t do. We need to follow God and walk in his path in this life on earth
This bible text means that if you have any hatred in your heart, then say you love God, you are lying, because how can you hate someone you know and see, then say you love someone who you don know or see.
Jesus is telling us that if we don’t love are neighbor than we don’t love him. If you want to love God than you must also love your neighbor. Jesus wants us to love our neighbor so we can love him and get closer to him.
God is telling me that I should love and be kind to everyone, even if I don’t know them or if they are my enemies. You should be kind and not gossip about people and talk about good things about those people instead.
This tells us that if we truly love God we must love the people he created. We must treat everyone with respect and always be careful with our words and actions. God lives inside of us and it is not okay to say we love him if we don’t love the people around us.
Jesus is teaching us to love one another. He wants us to love like him. When we don’t love like him we stray further away from him. Therefore we should love to get closer to him and others. We should try our best no to be mad at others. You can’t say you love God without loving your brother.
We need to be kind and loving towards everyone. If we truly love God, and everyone else, then we will go to heaven. But we need to believe in and love God.
God is trying to tell us that we need to always remain faithful in him and follow his commandments. Jesus is the Messiah, the one who we should follow. Jesus is the one that has come to save us from sin, and we need to continue to believe that and not fall away from the Catholic faith.
We can not just say we are catholic and go where everyone else goes. We need to live our own faith and not our parents faith.
I think what God is trying tell us is that if you believe all of this. Do you believe in God or do you love him as much as you can. Can you be able to trust another person. God is telling us if we can trust one another and to help one another instead of letting them crash and burn. What God is really telling us is can we handle one another. Can we think good about the instead of thinking bad about them.
This is speaking to me by Lord telling us not to lie, and be disobedient. Loving others is a number one priority, including friends and family. I think this is telling me that I need to work harder to love others and myself. You can’t say that you love God, but hate another person because there is God in everyone’s hearts and when you hate someone you hate God. So love everyone around you. Forgive their sins. God wants us to be holy, kind and forgiving. This passage gave me a lot of knowledge, and helped me to do better at forgiving. ~8th hour.
Our families are annoying at times. Now John is essentially saying that we have to actually hang out with our family. We also have to love our family to love God truly and completely.
We have to love our family to love God. we have to hang out with them, even if they’re annoying. That’s just the way God works, he gives us something that we take for granted and then comes to tell us that we actually need them. We do need our family, wether we like it or not.
Today’s gospel reveals to us that to genuinely love God with all our mind, heart, and soul, we must love our neighbor first. Whether that is our family, friends, or someone we don’t know at all.
