Humbly submit your will to God (thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
God is love, and whoever remains in love remains in God and God in him.
In this is love brought to perfection among us,
that we have confidence on the day of judgment
because as he is, so are we in this world.
There is no fear in love,
but perfect love drives out fear
because fear has to do with punishment,
and so one who fears is not yet perfect in love. 1 Jn 4:11-18
In St. John’s letter today, he teaches us a lesson about true love. ”There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear because fear has to do with punishment, and so one who fears is not yet perfect in love.” Perfect love does not fear. When we are in the state of grace, follow God’s commandments, receive His grace in the sacraments faithfully (especially Catholic ER-Eucharist and Reconciliation), die to self and put on Christ, treat others the way we want to be treated, put others first, do works of mercy, our love begins to grow more perfect and fear diminishes. We know where we are going. We know our mission and our purpose. We know who we are and what we were made for. Remain in God by loving more perfectly and fearing less. This brings what our heart desires, joy and peace.
After the five thousand had eaten and were satisfied,
Jesus made his disciples get into the boat
and precede him to the other side toward Bethsaida,
while he dismissed the crowd.
And when he had taken leave of them,
he went off to the mountain to pray.
When it was evening,
the boat was far out on the sea and he was alone on shore.
Then he saw that they were tossed about while rowing,
for the wind was against them.
About the fourth watch of the night,
he came toward them walking on the sea.
He meant to pass by them.
But when they saw him walking on the sea,
they thought it was a ghost and cried out.
They had all seen him and were terrified.
But at once he spoke with them,
“Take courage, it is I, do not be afraid!”
He got into the boat with them and the wind died down.
They were completely astounded.
They had not understood the incident of the loaves.
On the contrary, their hearts were hardened. Mk 6:45-52
Today’s sequence of events shows us how Christ works in our lives. First, the apostles have just started to follow Christ. They just witnessed the feeding of the 5,000 but did not understand the significance. Then, they wake in fear as Christ approaches them walking on water. Christ calms their fears “Take courage, it is I, do not be afraid!”. Last, He got into the boat with them and they were completely astounded. When we welcome Christ into our lives, our lives are going to be rocked. We are going to have fear, be terrified, doubt, not understand or be confused. Christ understands, He is always there waiting for us to come to Him saying, “Take courage, it is I, do not be afraid!”. With Christ, we will overcome our fears and doubt, our minds will become clear and our lives will be put into perspective. Then, we will be completely astounded and wonder why we did not repent and follow Christ sooner. The joy and peace we attain will be overwhelming. We will want to share this Good News with all who are around us. Our love will be perfect with no fear and we will know exactly where we are going which will give us great hope, peace, comfort, and joy. Our hearts greatest desire will be fulfilled and we will stop searching in all the wrong places. We will be home.
Today’s challenge: Love more perfectly, fear less. Remain in the state of grace. Go off to a mountain to pray. Welcome Christ into your life and be ready for your world to be rocked! When is the last time you have been astounded by something? Stop looking for things to entertain you, start looking for Christ who will astound you!
