“WILL YOU LAY DOWN YOUR LIFE FOR ME? JN 13:21-33, 36-38
Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.
Betrayal…is there anything worse than having your heart torn apart by the one’s you love most. The betrayal of Judas and denial by Peter three times may have caused Jesus more pain and suffering (emotional stress) than all of the mental and physical pain in His Passion. The difference between Judas and Peter in their betrayal and denial is an important lesson to learn.
I learned it from one of my very own 8th graders who just reflected on a talk by a young man who struggled with an addiction to pornography. My student learned that through addiction and overcoming it, “we are not defined by our actions, but how we respond to our actions.” Profound.
We find the face of Christ in our suffering and in those suffering around us. We will all suffer, Christ never promises to take that away. Judas responded by killing himself, Peter responded by weeping, resentment, and later Jesus will give him a chance to be forgiven with his three fold, “You know that I love you” after the resurrection.
Each time we deny Jesus or betray Him with our selfishness and sin, He is ready to forgive. It doesn’t matter how many times or how big of a whopper the sin is, it depends on how you respond to it. It depends on how you love again to avoid it. Will we use Christ like a slot machine and do it again (sin of presumption) or will we give it to Him so His grace and suffering can do its work. God’s grace and love restore what sin has damaged. How open are you to this grace and love? Jesus just wants our hearts!
Christ wants us to embrace our suffering and sin so we can come to know how much He loves us and how badly He wants to forgive us to make things right with the Father. Most people just get stuck or scared in life. Jesus has opened up an avenue back to the Father, but it requires many struggles and lessons learned to grow in holiness.
This Lent bust loose from the chains of sin and selfishness by allowing Christ and His grace to transform you. Give up your will so you can do His Will. There is no problem God’s grace cannot overcome. You may need counseling or medicine as well, God has put people in our lives to help transform and counsel us as well. Allow the light of Christ to bring out the ugliness in the darkness of your soul, so His healing power can begin!
Today’s challenge: React to your brokenness. React to your sin. React to your being chained down. React by allowing God’s love to free you from brokenness, sin, and being chained down.
Be a servant, be a saint today!

In the scripture it says “Betrayal…is there anything worse than having your heart torn apart by the one’s you love most.” This stuck to me because this is saying that we need to be trustworthy to other people. We should tell the truth and not lie. When you sin you are making your relationship with God worse you are moving farther and farther away.
Jesus went through so much physical and mental pain. Betrayals mentally hurt Him because of His best friends. Not to mention He died for us the next day. If we can realize that Jesus loves us, we can have the ability to love Him above other things and to never betray Him. Remember, always try to say a prayer at least once a day. Jesus is inside others. Saying a prayer for others is like saying a prayer for Jesus.
Betraying God is the worst possible way to disrespect Him. That is the worst sin. If we betray God, not only is He hurt, but He is severely disappointed. We have to want to be with Him, want to do anything for God. Even if we do betray God, that doesn’t mean that we can’t come back to Him. We can always find our way back to God with His arms wide open for us.
God knew that Judas would betray him this is crazy to me because Jesus didn’t want to tell the other apostles because they would try to stop him and beat Judas up and that is not what Jesus wanted he wanted to save us from sin. This is the one way that Jesus could save us and make us be able to go through the gates of heaven. If the apostles had stopped Judas by beating him they would’ve committed sin and not helped us go to heaven.
I learned that if we have an addiction we need to over come and we are not defined by our actions, but how we respond to our actions. Our actions and what people say about us is not what we are.God knows who we truly are if you are willing to over come your addiction or just to keep struggling with it.Everyone should want to overcome their addiction even if it is something small because if you have a little addiction it can grow into something bigger and cause more problems in the future.
I think why Judas did it was because he wanted to be seen so he killed Jesus so he could get notice because that is all humans want is to be seen.
In today’s Gospel I think it is talking about humanity and when Jesus says
“Amen, amen, I say to you, one of you will betray me.” To me he means
That while Judas will betray him humanity will too but he still died on the
cross for our sins not his because Jesus is sinless unlike humanity humans
sin a lot but we can go to confession to get those sins forgiven.
Jesus knew he was going to get betrayed by two of His closest friends but He still loved them. Jesus knew His best friend would hand Him over to be killed but He still loved him. Jesus is love itself He loves everything and everyone with all His heart, even if they don’t love Him back. We need to love and respect the Lord because He loves us and he died for us.
Today we hear about two different people who messed up and how they reacted to their sin. Judas fell into the mindset that there was no hope left for him. That he could not be forgiven. He even went so far as to commit suicide. Peter on the other hand also realized his mistake and did not fall into despair. He still was sorrowful, and repented, but he asked for forgiveness.
” We will all suffer, Christ never promises to take that away. ” Never take your life away because there will be good and bad times and when we do suffer it feels like no one is there at least at night. Then during day time we act like nothing happened. After that though someone may come into your life and you can become really close with them and their happiness and bond that they have with you can pull you out from the misery and suffering. It might take time but eventually you will see the good again
I think god is telling us that we need to not betrayal others. we will get betrayed sometimes but we should´nt betray other people. it hurts when u get betrayed and it also hurts other people when you do it to them.
Jesus was deeply troubled. That part stuck out to me because it is hard to imagine the King of KIngs sitting down and being worried. Thinking about it though he must have been. The guys who he had spent the last three years were not at his side anymore. His best friends were gone at the time he needed them the most. Jesus will not abandon us. He will be by our side no matter what. We should try to stand with our friends if they are going through something rough.
Jesus telling Peter that he will deny Him 3 times before the rooster crows right after Peter saying he would die for Jesus, is Him showing us how even the most courageous and loyal people can falter in times of fear for them. Just like how Peter denied Jesus 3 times even though he was one of His best friends we deny Jesus and others to, but again like Peter we need to go back to whoever we denied or hurt and ask for forgiveness.
“We find the face of Christ in our suffering and in those suffering around us.“ I chose this because what I get from it is that we will always suffer. Whatever we do and whatever we say we will suffer. But in the end all the sufferings, worries, and anxiety are worth it. In Romans 8:18 it says that the suffering now will not compare to the joy in the end. Jesus had to suffer and in the end he forgave all of our sins. We need to pull through with Jesus by our side and in the end it will all work out as long as we stay on our path with God.
Something that I got out of this was that it is easier to say than to do something, in this gospel it describes Peter saying how he will never leave Jesus’ side, and even die for him, while in just a few hours he denies him not once, not twice, but three times. Judas was arguably worse, and just the instant regret he had after he gave Jesus to the Jewish leaders, so much that he even hung himself on a tree, and something that I thought was interesting is that they both had two totally different reactions to denying Jesus, and feeling bad. After Peter denied Jesus, he wept but after he wept he ran back to Jesus, and Jesus forgave him, meanwhile Judas felt so bad, and thought that Jesus could never forgive him, he hung himself.
Something that stuck out to me a little was the difference of how Judas and Peter acted after they messed up. Judas decided to kill himself, but we see that Peter went on with his life and asked Jesus to forgive him later. When we sin we should try to be like Peter and get on with our life and ask Jesus to forgive us.
Every time we sin Jesus will and wants to forgive us. Jesus is open to forgive our sins every time we sin. Jesus wants us to get back to the father but it requires us to ask for forgiveness every time we sin.
“WILL YOU LAY DOWN YOUR LIFE FOR ME?” This question stuck out to me because it asks us if we are dedicated enough for Jesus to believe that you are worthy. It is weird, we say we will but then we don’t. We think we have the faith to lay down our lives but sometimes we don’t. Like Peter and Judas, they said that they would lay down their lives down for Jesus. But wouldn’t you know he betrayed Jesus by turning him in to the Sanhedrin. Jesus said that Peter will deny him three times when the cock crows twice. And so, when the cock crowed twice Peter had already denied him three times. This shows our original sin from conception till death; our fallen human nature.
Judas denied Jesus and felt so sorry and guilty, so he killed himself. Peter denied Jesus and realized he could be forgiven. Jesus forgives when we ask for it. There is never a time when we ask for forgiveness and he still holds a grudge on us. He has already forgiven the sins we will commit by dying on the cross. We can handle forgiveness in two ways, either realize God still loves us and forgives us or we feel unloved and very guilty. Choose to be forgiven and keep going.
The Gospel today was of The Last Supper. In the Gospel Jesus says to his disciples that one of them will betray him. When he said this all of his disciples were troubled and one of them asked who would betray him. Jesus told them, “It is the one to whom I hand the morsel after I have dipped it.” After he did that he gave the morsel to Judas. Then Satan came to Judas and Judas left. This part stood out to me the most but Jesus didn’t scold Judas he just let him know that he knew what would happen and he wouldn’t stop him. Judas had free will and we have free will too. We can choose to do good though.
What stuck out to me was “Amen, amen, I say to you, one of you will betray me.” Jesus knew that Judas was going to betray him. Jesus was so forgiving that even at the time he needed Judas the most he still forgave him. Jesus always forgives. We shouldn’t think that we should just give up the faith because we did something bad and we will never be forgiven so we should just not try anymore. JESUS DIED ON A CROSS FOR US. Since Jesus died on the cross for us we are all forgiven. We may not be forgiven at first if we don’t put ourselves out there. If we go to God and ask for forgiveness he is always willing to forgive us. Jesus and God are the most forgiving people on the earth. Jesus was so forgiving that when he laid on the cross to die he forgave everyone in the world especially the people who has killed him saying “forgive them father for they know not what they are doing.” We just need to put ourselves out there go to confession and ask for forgiveness for all that we have done.
Today Jesus tells us that Judas will betray him. We need to be unlike Judas we need to trust our Lord for he knows all. No matter what we do Jesus will know before for he is God.
In today’s gospel I feel bad for Jesus because he has done so much for Judas and he betrays him like it’s nothing. Jesus deserves the world and people always forget what he did for us and how thankful we should be. Then there are people who just betray him without thinking twice.
People think that Jesus doesn’t understand. That’s not true! He suffered the worst of humanity, and the best of it. People also think Jesus doesn’t understand because He suffered the worst, and most people haven’t. That’s not true either! Think about it. Has your friend ever done something to you, or betrayed you? One of Jesus’s best friends, Judas, betrayed Jesus. Even though Judas knew Jesus was innocent, he still betrayed Him. Jesus wants to help us overcome these struggles. He is there, and will always be. Follow Jesus! Listen to Him.
When I read Mr. Goertz’s scripture reflection today I liked that he said “We are not defined by our actions but how we respond to our actions.” This kinda pulled a heart string for me because how many times have we done something wrong and then let that one wrong doing cripple us for however long we let it? Judas let his wrong doing cripple him to the point of death while Peter overcame his. He didn’t let one mistake destroy his life or his burning love for Jesus. Instead he worked past that and is know one of the greatest and most respected saints in history.
Is there anything worse than having your heart torn apart by the one’s you love most. The betrayal of Judas and denial by Peter three times may have caused Jesus more pain and suffering than all of the mental and physical pain in His Passion. Jesus got betrayed so many times but he still loves the ones that had betrayed him. We need to be like Jesus in this situation and pray for the one that had betrayed you.You should be giving to your enemy’s even if they hate you.
In today’s gospel Jesus tells his disciples that one of them is going to betray him. I think that in this gospel, Jesus is warning his disciples that He will die soon. Peter tells Jesus that he will lay down his life for his and stand by his side but Jesus tells Peter that he will deny his three times. When Peter was talking to Jesus, he said that his would never deny him but in the face of danger, Peter quickly denied having known Jesus. At some point in life our faith will be challenged and we need to and stand up for what is right.
We shouldn’t deny Jesus or deny our faith. Judas denied Jesus and he couldn’t live with the betrayal that he killed himself. We need to be prepared to stand with our faith under any circumstances and not deny that we believe in Jesus and that we love Jesus.
“Betrayal…is there anything worse than having your heart torn apart by the one’s you love most.” This really stuck out to me, it should stick out to all of us. this is probably how Jesus feels everyday. He carried a whole cross while being cursed at and beaten because he loves us so much. He created us, he created each and every one of us individually. He is calling us to the vocation that he wants us to do because he loves us. And we betray him every single day. We sin, we go against him, we do things that are not good, we push him away and sometimes may even not believe in him at times. And we just keep doing that again and again. But even after all of that Jesus still loves us because we are created in his image and we are on the earth for a reason. To love God, to trust in him, to follow him, and to make it to Heaven. we need to be better as to not sin, and remember all that Jesus did for us. We are loved.
Today the Gospel talked about the last Supper and the foretelling of the betrayal of Judas and denial of Jesus Christ. Peter, one of Jesus’s closest friends, denied him three times. It might seem impossible to be brave and declare our faith, because, even Peter couldn’t do it. That is the wrong mindset. We need to remember that Peter was forgiven and he was still the first Pope. We must stand up for our faith even though sometimes it might feel impossible.
Today’s gospel I think is about how Jesus doesn’t care how much we sin against him and the father its about how we repent. If sin a lot but then we think about how it was wrong and then we go to confession if we commit that sin again and we will, we just do the same thing and we will be forgiven but we cant keep doing it just because we know that God will forgive us we have to try to stop ourselves
Jesus was betrayed by Judas. Judas thought that there was no way to be forgiven after he betrayed Jesus so he killed himself because he thought there was no way out. Peter denied Jesus 3 times and wept after he denied Jesus because during the last supper he said he would lay down his life for Jesus but he didn’t instead he denied that he knew him in order to live. Peter didn’t kill himself for he knew he could be forgiven.
In todays scripture it says “we are not defined by our actions, but how we respond to our actions.” I think that its trying to say that we are not who we are by our actions. But its the way you may act back is. You may do something bad, but it shows who you are if you confess to your action and not say a lie. It is better to overcome something than keep doing it. No matter what Jesus will always love you for your actions
What I got from this scripture reflection is that we shall not betray others. It hurts people when you betray them and we should not hurt anyone. If we wouldn’t want to get betrayed then why should we betray others, we should always do what is right and I don;t think that betraying others is what is right.
In today’s scripture it told me that we must not run away from our sins and stay in this world afraid forever but to embrace that we are sinners and that if we believe in god he will forgive us for what we have done. That was the whole reason why Jesus died on the cross for us to show that he does really care about us and that he will do anything for us as long as we need it. We are the reason he died but he is the reason we will live for ever in Heaven with him. We need to look at what we’ve done and focus on the good we have done not the bad because we need to do more good than bad that is the way we will make it to Heaven through God and believing in his passion and that he can do anything and will do anything as long as it is good. But we must make the decision we will do good with what he gives us.
“will you lay down your life for me.” This is something that we should focus on. Putting hard work as far as giving your life to God, will be something incredibly hard for us Christians. This is life all the saints that died. They both died for Christ as to not betray him. That is something we need to work for. Peter in the gospel told Jesus that he will die for him and with him. But Jesus told him that he will betray me. Peter is that apostle that we should try to be like in that moment, never giving up on a friend, even when things go wrong. After words he betrays Jesus in front of his eyes. He wept. This is what happened when we get too scared or we have distractions. We deny Jesus when he hasn’t done this for us, but look what he did on the cross, he died for us that’s what we should realize. What us Catholics realized in the Gospel, is that we shouldn’t give up on faith, should never give up in loving, and even we shouldn’t give up in our freedom that God has purchased for us. In the Bible it says we shall not submit to slavery, because we are a child of God. The people lived it and experienced it. We must never give up things that matter in life. That’s where we find ourselves with Christ, as a free man, and as a child of a living God. That is pretty huge for us Christians, we need to recognize that for ourselves.
“Each time we deny Jesus or betray Him with our selfishness and sin” this is the one phrase that drew me in it is one of the most meaningful phrases because I struggle with sin and need help with that this is what i need this phrase
“The difference between Judas and Peter in their betrayal and denial is an important lesson to learn.” This part of the scripture reflection stuck out to me, because it shows that even when we sin, we have a choice of what to do about it. Judas chose to be sorrowful, and ended killing himself, overcome with grief and guilt. But Peter wept, and yes, he felt guilty, but rather than letting that guilt overcome him, he decided to learn from his mistake, trust that God would forgive him, and do better in the future. We are all called to be like Peter, not like Judas. Yes, we are sinners, but if we let that become our identity and not try to fix ourselves, Jesus will have died on the cross for nothing.
I think that in this Gospel Jesus is trying to tell me that nothing hurts Jesus more then when we betray him, not In the way as Peter and Judas did, but in a way that we do not completely know yet. When we betray Him, we betray ourselves, we are like Judas and Peter, every time we do something wrong to hurt him we betray him.
When Judas betrayed and Peter denied Jesus 3 times that may have caused Jesus more pain and suffering (emotional stress) than all of the mental and physical pain. They were his closest friends and they denied him and betrayed him. We are not defined by our actions, but how we respond with our actions. When Judas figured what he had just done he killed himself, and Peter weeped. This showed that they were truly sorry and regreated what they did to Jesus.
Jesus is trying to tell us in the scripture that we need to fix the brokenness in our soul. And there is no better way to do that than going to mass and confession. God put people on the planet to help fix our souls so we can live a much better life.
“we are not defined by our actions, but how we respond to our actions.” We do mean or bad like taking something from someone. That was the action but how are you going to respond to that. Do you keep it or give it back. It is so tempting to keep it but the right thing to do is to give it back. If they say you can keep it make sure you say thank you. If you respond correctly then that is what you are defined as and if you respond wrong and don’t give it back then that is how you are defined as. The action is the start of it but once you respond then that is what you will be defined as. This is the same thing with smoking or drinking. You take one shot or one breath with it. You can stop or you can keep doing it. Once you make your choice then you are defined and it is hard to stop or turn back away from it.
to the scripture talks about that God gust whats to be loved by you. “most people just get stuck or scared in life. but it requires many struggles and lessons learned to grow in holiness”. I think that it is realy important
to the scripture talks about that God gust whats to be loved by you. “most people just get stuck or scared in life. but it requires many struggles and lessons learned to grow in holiness”. I think that it is realy important becasue a lot of people get hurt and stuck in life.
the gospel today explains how Peter and Judas are alike by peters denial and Judas’s betrayal, they both refused him and said
“I do not know that man” and that caused more pain than the passion alone, Jesus could feel it from across the court-yard that they were in and he new from the point that he was born that he would save us from Judas’s betrayal to death on the cross.
In this scripture reflection I remembered how scary it can be to talk to others who don’t believe in Jesus but each time you do God rejoyces in Heaven.
I think God is trying to tell us that the main difference between a Holy Catholic person and a Catholic person is what they do after they sin. Some Catholics would go to confession within a week or so but then others wouldn’t go for a few years. We should go whenever we have a mortal sin on our soul
“The betrayal of Judas and denial by Peter three times may have caused Jesus more pain and suffering (emotional stress) than all of the mental and physical pain in His Passion.”
Jesus didn’t just have mental and physical pain, he had every type of pain. But when he was betrayed by Judas and denied by Peter that could have been some of the worse pain he went through. We shouldn’t deny or betray Jesus. He is the only one who can lead us in the right path
Although Peter and Judas were great people and truly loved Jesus, they both made mistakes. Both of them also would have went back and fixed those mistakes if they could, but they couldn’t. We are going to make mistakes during our lives, more specifically we will sin, but as long as we can learn from those mistakes and improve, we will make it to Heaven.
Each time we deny Jesus or betray Him with our selfishness and sin, He is ready to forgive. It doesnt matter how big the sin is he loves us no matter what.
A part that stuck out to me was “The betrayal of Judas and denial by Peter three times may have caused Jesus more pain and suffering” because Judas and Denial betrayed Jesus three times even though they knew it was wrong they still did and Jesus took the pain from it but he still loves them even after they betray him.
I think god is telling us that we need to not betray others. We will get betrayed sometimes but we should not betray other people. It hurts when you get betrayed and it also hurts other people when you do it to them.
in times of trouble, how much are we willing to do to get out of that trouble? How much are we willing to risk to get through it? if we were given the choice between death or denying Jesus, which would we choose? Peter denied Jesus and the moment he did, he knew he did something wrong. But God forgave him just like he forgives us when we make a mistake. we are always forgiven by God, so we should never forget it when we feel like we are not.
don’t run away from your sin. this is something we all probably do, God wants us to lay our sin down for him. you will be frgiven
Peter tells Jesus that he will lay down his life for Jesus. But Jesus tells Peter that he will deny Him 3 times before the cock crows 2 times. Something that I knew was when Peter denied Jesus for the first time Jesus caught his eye on the other side of the courtyard. Which had to be so disheartening for Peter because he just saw the man he denied. But Judas is so hung up on grief that he commits suicide and gives the 30 silver back to the pharisees. Judas thought that he could never be forgiven however Peter knew that God was all forgiving and Jesus was all forgiving so he decided to go back to Jesus after He is resurrected, Jesus forgives him for his sins and Peter feels good again. We need to be like Peter in the sense that we know Jesus is forgiving and we don’t have to get so mad at ourselves to the point of death if we offend Him.
What really stuck out to me was “Betrayal…is there anything worse than having your heart torn apart by the one’s you love most.” This really stuck out to me because it has happened to me several times. I think that I have a good friend that I can trust and tell everything to when really the whole time they were talking bad about me behind my back. I have trouble with trusting people now because I always end up trusting the wrong people and I always end up getting hurt and it sucks man. Then when I let them have another chance the same thing repeats itself again. Sometimes people can just be real jerks for no reason yk.
will you lay down your life for me. That’s what Jesus says in the scripture today. Are we strong enough to defend what we believe? Jesus laid down his life for us by dying on the cross and losing everything of this world. He asks us to pick up our cross and throw away the things of this world. Money, pleasure, power, glory they don’t matter in heaven so why should we bother with them on earth? If they don’t help us get into heaven or help us lay down our lives for Christ why do we need them?
in this scripture Judas and peter betray Jesus in each of there ways in this scripture it shows what we do after sin that matters because Judas after his betrayal he says that there is no redeeming himself and kills himself and peter instead of thinking there is no way of saving his soul instead knows that Gods love is always there we just need to ask for forgiveness because he is will always forgive you so instead of thinking your nonredeemable we need to remember that God will always love us and forgive us the only thing stopping us from getting forgiven is ourselves
From the Scripture today I learned that Jesus didn’t choose perfect people who never made mistakes as His disciples, His choose people who He knew would betray Him and He forgave them for what they did, He will never not forgive you, you just have to ask for it.
He is ready to forgive. We do sin and we are selfish no matter what you think because God and Jesus are people who aren’t selfish. God gave His only Son to us just for us to put Him to death. We are the people who put Jesus on that cross not the Jews it was us. We put Him on that cross every time we sin or do something that we knew was wrong. Then he is ready for us to sin again and again but He is just on that cross and we are looking up to Him and adding more sins on His soldiers, making His death even more cruel. We are what we need to change our ways of how we do things. We need to not be selfish and be ready to be able to die like he did on the cross for everyone. Then be ready to forgive.
Our sins are like digging a hole you keep going deeper and deeper and deeper. But we have a way to get out of this, forgiveness from our Savior. Jesus forgave the people who were nailing Him to the cross that’s mind blowing how can you forgive your executor? We all struggle with forgiveness but when we don’t forgive others or ourselves it’s like picking up the shovel again. You get two choices: forgiving yourself and moving on because you know Jesus forgives you and that’s all that matters and convincing yourself that you deserve the punishment and shame. We see where each road leads in the Gospel, forgive and forget because Jesus wants to forgive and love us all.
I believe Jesus made humans for each other. God has a plan for everything. He didn’t make us to be alone. He made us so we can help one another. Jesus wants us to have friends. His love for us is so great no matter how many times you betray him you are still loved by him. Jesus didn’t want us to be alone so he is there. He knows we are humans and we will hurt other people so he is there for us when other aren’t. He is there for us to lean on when we need help. Jesus loves the unlovable. He loves the unlovable as much as he loves everyone else. He loves those people in Jail. He loves the people who don’t love him back. Jesus loves you.
god knew that judas and peter would betray him, and he knew who would kill himself, and who would ask for forgiveness. Jesus still let them do these things, for he knew that it was necessary.
This says that even though Peter and Judas both denied Jesus, the took it different ways. Peter wept and wept and begged God to forgive him, while Judas just gave up, and ended his life for a mistake that he made over greed.
“we are not defined by our actions, but how we respond to our actions.” This stuck out to me because it basically says people don’t know you by how you act, but how you act when someone goes to you. Like Judas betraying Jesus, Judas knew what he was doing in the first place but, acted upon his actions when he realized what he did. We should always act in good ways that examples Christ.
Our sins hurt Jesus deeply but is our forgiving Savior. He will forgive us as many times as needed. That does not mean we can go around sinning left and right and then asking for forgiveness only to do it all over again. It just means that he will love us no matter what and we need to love him right back with the best of our ability.
I learned that if you have a addiction its noting to be ashamed of but you need to overcome it and react to the sin and not give up.
We talk about Judas’ betrayal to Christ. People betray and deny Jesus all the time. But he will stand there with open arms willing to forgive us every time. We have to not betray him and be proud of our love for Christ and spread our love for him.
What stuck out to me was “I will lay down my life for you”. This stuck out to me because Jesus took all of our pain, all of our suffering, all of our hurt, and took it to the cross with him. Jesus did this for you and yet we hurt Him. Also in today’s Gospel it shows the betrayal from Judas and Peter. Think about if you have betrayed Jesus and then try and do something good. You can always overcome any bad habit.
Judas denied Jesus and let the Sanhedrin take him for 30 pieces of silver. He let greed get to him. Jesus was already going to die on the cross for our sins, Judas was part of that. Rather than asking forgiveness he killed himself. Peter denied him 3 times and had marks on his cheeks from the amount of tears he shed that night, he asked for forgiveness and he still made it to heaven. No matter what Jesus will forgive you. It doesn’t matter what you did he will always forgive you.
Judas betrayed the Lord by death but we betray the Lord every day by our sins, but what we needed to remember that the Lord will always forgive us so there is no reason we need to beat down on ourselves or go even further then that like Judas did, we are all human and all make mistakes but what we do need to do is learn from our mistakes. Gods mercy will always be enough for us.
God will always love and care for us no matter what we do. He is always going to be there for us. we just have to try our very best to get closer to Him and so we really get to know Him. We are not perfect at all. The only person who is perfect is God. So we need to learn from Him and our mistakes. That’s how we grow. We can all grow with God.
i got a phone, computer, and tablet. None of them have something that could or help God. I dont have Tik Tok and instagram but i have snapchat, discord, twitter, and facebook. I got the old stuff people use too. #FacebookShop, but nothing on there is Catholic or something with God. More or less art work and drawing I post. I Don’t want people I dont know knowing Iḿ catholic or where I live like in Facebook so I just post art. Nothing that gives away where I live but stuff that comforts me and that I want to share. I have family members who post quotes from the Bible and people commenting ¨ Amen ¨ or ¨ Bless you ¨. Itś nice for daily quotes but for me, I don’t want to post where I just quote or share things about God. I’ve seen videos of people talking about their religion that’s not Catholic or anything with Jesus and they just barrage them with insults or curse them. This world is hard on people who aren’t the same and I hate it. That’s why I don’t post about my religion or what I look like or who I am. I have a private account for only friends and family to see and I keep it that way. I don ´ t need people commenting on what I believe and who I am to God. I post what comforts me that just takes one second to look and like then go on with their day.
Peter said to him, “Master, why can I not follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.” This part stuck out to me because Peter said to Jesus that he would lay his life down for Him. Jesus knew that Peter would betray Him, so when Peter said he would lay down his life, Jesus knew he was lying. Peter is a great example of us. When we are not in a life or death situation we will say things like “I will die for you,” “I will lay down my life for you.” But when we actually have to, we deny the one who we said we would die for. Jesus died for us and yet we still sin. God gives us so much love and in return we sin against Him. Right after Peter denied Jesus him and Jesus made eye contact and Peter immediately knew he made a huge mistake. When Jesus needed Peter the most, Peter denied Him.
We know we are going to sin. There is no way we can be sinless like Jesus. It’s just not possible. So when Jesus tells Peter that he will sin against Jesus that’s surprising. Like Jesus I din’t want you to know but Jesus does know. Jesus is the one that every time you hurt someone you are hurting Jesus. Whether we like it or not. So if you think of it that way it makes it harder to sin, it feels almost too wrong and then you have a burden cause yes you did hurt Jesus. So remember that you will always sin but its what you do about it that changes it. What you choose to do is what really matters.
“Amen, amen, I say to you, one of you will betray me.” We are all responsible for the crucifixion. Judas betrayed Jesus. Peter denied Jesus. We betray Jesus every time we sin. We deny Jesus every time we turn towards evil or Earthly things. We need to turn back to him and love him the way that Mary did. We crucified him and he forgave us. He died so that we can go to confession. Confession is an amazing gift that can help us turn back to God. We are all sinners and we need to acknowledge that and confess our sins. We need to turn our eyes toward Jesus and remember just how much he did for us and he would do it all again even if you were the only one left on Earth. He loves us so much that he would suffer so that we don’t have to.
It can be hard to trust others when there is a fear of betrayal. All of us feel betrayed at some point, and it hurts even more the closer we are to the person who betrays us. It’s also something that takes a lot of time to recover from. If we lean on Jesus, there is a different kind of trust we can grow that is stronger than regular trust. If we are truly trying to get closer to Jesus and get to Heaven, we can trust that we’ll get to Heaven. We can also trust the fact that Jesus is always going to be by our side no matter what.
He died so that we can spend eternity with Him in joy. He didn’t have to die on the cross for us. He could have just opened the gate of heaven and implanted that God is with us in our brains. He did it to show people that you have to choose whether you want to do what is righteous but hard and live with Jesus. Or do what is easy but sinful and make it harder for ourselves to get to heaven, We have two choices, try and come back to the Lord like Peter. Or convince ourselves that we don’t care or have become unlovable/unforgivable like Judas.
We know we are going to sin. There is no way we can be sinless like Jesus. It’s just not possible. So when Jesus tells Peter that he will sin against Jesus that’s surprising. Like Jesus I don’t want you to know but Jesus does know.
Can you imagine this? Reading this passage thousands of years later, it seems almost like a fairy tale. I don’t think we realize what is going on. Jesus is being betrayed by his BEST FRIENDS. Almost all of them betrayed him. Everyone sees Judas as the bad guy in the story but it’s all of them. John is the only Apostle that stayed with Jesus. Think of a time when you felt lonely. When you felt like no one has your back, like no one cares, that’s what Jesus was feeling. Imagine how hurtful that must have been, he was dying for the people that betrayed him. But why should we care? This was centuries ago its not my problem, BUT IT IS. We betray God every day of our lives. and every time he always comes running after you. He wants us. We are told that we have to get him to want us, if we don’t sin he’ll want us but that’s not true. God is the one chasing after us. run to him, the world is trying to hide us away, trying to keep us from him. Why are we falling for it? Why are we still clinging to all of the pain and misery. What does the world have to offer that can even compare with eternal joy and love with the father? Honestly though, celebrities lives must be horrible. People really only think that they’re worth anything is because they’re famous. None of that matters though. Our true goal is Heaven. Mr. Goertz tells us to find friends, find people that will stay with us and will support us in our journey towards Heaven. That’s what this is all about, finding friends that will stick by your side no matter what. We can’t do this on our own. People are supposed to be together. to help us get back to the father
The fact that Judas committed suicide after he realized what he had done shows that he had remorse for his actions.
Betraying God and turning away from him is the worst
possible sin because when you do you lose your faith
and have to go to confession. But God will always forgive
you.So after you go to confessions your faith will have
been restored.
“Each time we deny Jesus or betray Him with our selfishness and sin, He is ready to forgive”
When we sin we know that it hurts Jesus but we do it anyways. When he is taking in all of our sins he is also forgiving us at the same exact time he is doing so. Don’t forget that he will always be forgiving and that when you sin just remember, he will always forgive you.
Betraying God is the worst possible way to disrespect Him. Betraying god is basically just betraying someone who was kind enough to die for you and your sins and create 8 billion+ people in his image. This helps us realize how much god cares for us and the least we can do is spread the faith.
“Betrayal…is there anything worse than having your heart torn apart by the one’s you love most.”
Betrayal hurts and even Jesus has to go through it. Jesus suffered so much for us. We need to appreciate all he did and does for us to this day.
“Each time we deny Jesus or betray Him with our selfishness and sin, He is ready to forgive.”
Jesus still forgives us no matter what we do.
“denial is an important lesson to learn.” That stuck out to me today, I have never thought that denial could be a lesson in life. If you look further into it it makes since. It is good so that you can learn from your actions and remember to not do it again. Once you’ve felt that pain of sin and guilt of it you don’t want to do it again because it hurt.
“we are not defined by our actions, but how we respond to our actions.” Stood out to me because it means that we respond with actions. Also we know were going to sin, there is no way to be sinless at all.
Except with Jesus in us who is without sin and took care of our sin.
The scripture is saying that God sent Jesus to save us. “I will make you a light to the nations,
that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.” Jesus’ reign will live on forever and ever and it is our choice if we decide to follow him or not.
” We will all suffer, Christ never promises to take that away. ” This stood out to me because; Its saying that God will never really take away the pain that we mourn so we should take all the times that he made us feel good again and never take that for granted
Judas let his sins and mistakes cripple him to the point of death. Jesus still lets us sin due to him loving us so much and not to force the love, for he knew that it was necessary. We need not to be selfish and we need to be ready and attempt to clean souls before death. Then be ready to forgive. We are always forgiven by God.
“Betrayal…is there anything worse than having your heart torn apart by the one’s you love most.” When we are betrayed we are caused much “emotional stress.” With emotional stress comes separation and isolation because you try and recover by yourself. When you try and recover by yourself you realize that you are pushing others and God away. When we push God away, there is no recovery, thus leading to more damage being done than you intended. “We find the face of Christ in our suffering and in those suffering around us.”
In today’s scripture reflection Judas denied Jesus and could not deal with the guilt so he killed himself. We should not denied our faith or Jesus. We should always stand up for our faith and right our wrong.
Judas denied Jesus and felt so sorry and guilty, so he killed himself. Peter denied Jesus and realized he could be forgiven. Jesus forgives when we ask for it. There is never a time when we ask for forgiveness and he still holds a grudge on us.When you sin you are making your relationship with God worse you are moving farther and farther away.
“Will you lay down your life for me”? To me this is saying that will you do anything or to go as much as dying for Jesus because that is what Jesus did for us.When we die we want to be in a Holy state so that when we do die we can be with Jesus in heaven.Jesus laid down his life for all of us and we need to ask the question to ourselves if we would do that too.
We all know that we are sinners, we have once betrayed someone in our life or did something very bad to our friends. Jesus got betrayed by a lot of people, even His Best Friends. Judas betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver coins and Peter denied 3 times. We betray God by sinning and not putting Him first in our daily lives. “WILL YOU LAY DOWN YOUR LIFE FOR ME?” I like this part because we want to pay back Jesus by giving our lives to Him so we can be with Him for eternal life.
Betrayal hurts. A lot. One person who betrays us really hurts us. But, just think, how did God feel when Judas and tons of other people turned their back on him and betrayed them? He was agonizing mentally everyday, but he did not show it or complain about it once, yet we get so emotional when one hurts us. Even though tons of people betrayed God, He still forgave them, but for everyone else, including myself, it is hard to forgive one who hurt us so much. We need to strive to be more like God and forgive thos who hurt us instead of holding a grudge.
Judas felt like there was no hope left for him and he could never turn back to Christ. That God wouldn’t forgive him. He was in such a bad mindset that he commit suicide. But Peter the other betrayer felt so bad that he wepted for days. The difference between Judas and Peter was that Peter did not decide to end his life because he was in such a bad place, Peter gave his life back to God. We can learn a lesson from this, even though we might be in a bad place and want to commit suicide. You can always just turn to God and put all your pain in God because he will help you and bring you bad to a good place.
In todays gospel Jesus tells the events that will happen in the near future and the disciples did not realize he was doing this. He also told them who would give him over and still yet didn’t realize it was Judas.
In today’s scripture it talks about betrayal… The absolute worst thing you can do to God. Leave him out to dry after all the good things he has given you. God wants us to be with him and us just saying no is not right. We are called to love God and he is giving us the biggest chance to be with him.
I think today’s scripture is about betrayal. In the scripture it says “Betrayal…is there anything worse than having your heart torn apart by the one’s you love most.” I think that it means that nothing is worse than betrayal. Getting betrayed is not good, betray is like being friends with someone and then talking behind their back.
when Judas betrayed Jesus all he could feel was guilt he couldn’t get out of that that’s why he killed himself that tells you how much people suffer over big or little things.
When Jesus Says: “Amen I say to You, one of you will betray me,” it sticks out to me. It makes me wonder how many times I ignored Jesus.
When we lose something dear to us, we are in mourning for a long period of time. In a lot of cases, we cannot get over it. Our loved ones would not want us to mourn their deaths, but celebrate their accomplishments in life. Death is what makes us human. Death is what makes life worth living.
God knows we will sin and betray Him. When Simon Peter asked to go with Jesus and Jesus said where I go you cannot go that references us trying to follow Jesus but we cannot make it until we die, but if we want to get to heaven we must be like Jesus and live like Him, then we will be ready.
Jesus is trying to tell us in the scripture that we need to fix the broken parts in our soul. And there is no better way to do that than going to mass payer and confession.
