“I KNOW WHO YOU ARE–THE HOLY ONE OF GOD!” MK 1:21-28
Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.
Jesus came to Capernaum with his followers,
and on the sabbath he entered the synagogue and taught.
The people were astonished at his teaching,
for he taught them as one having authority and not as the scribes.
In their synagogue was a man with an unclean spirit;
he cried out, “What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth?
Have you come to destroy us?
I know who you are–the Holy One of God!”
Jesus rebuked him and said, “Quiet! Come out of him!”
The unclean spirit convulsed him and with a loud cry came out of him.
All were amazed and asked one another,
“What is this?
A new teaching with authority.
He commands even the unclean spirits and they obey him.”
His fame spread everywhere throughout the whole region of Galilee. MK 1:21-28
Jesus is our Savior “for whom and through whom all things exist, in bringing many children to glory.” He is the leader to our salvation which He made perfect through suffering. Therefore, we must suffer to gain eternal life, in this life we will not have to look for it. Life is difficult and humans can’t solve their problems. We need a Savior. We all have one origin, Jesus Christ, the mediator between the Father and His children.
In the Gospel, Mark reveals to us who Jesus is. ”The people were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority and not as the scribes” He is set apart from those who were the highest scholars of the Word of God in the Old Testament. He speaks with authority because He is God (let that soak in for a while; the soul likes to savor).
Last, sometimes we doubt who Jesus is which is interesting because the Devil knows exactly who Jesus is when Jesus casts him out of the possessed body, “In their synagogue was a man with an unclean spirit; he cried out, “What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth?
Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are–the Holy One of God!” Mk 1:21-28
The Devil knows who Jesus is because Jesus has Power over him. May we recognize who Jesus is and who the Devil is in our lives. Since Jesus died and rose, through Baptism we have this Power to conquer Evil in our lives with God’s grace. We cannot fight Satan on our own, Jesus taught us to fill ourselves up with His Power in all of the avenues of grace He has given us. Fight the good fight and overcome evil with the Truth: Jesus Christ!
The same Christ whose fame grew all throughout Galilee, teaches with Authority, and casts out demons, is fully alive right here right now in every tabernacle, monstrance, and Eucharist. Why have the crowds stop gathering? Padre Pio said if people truly understand the Eucharist every Church would have crowds and police would be needed.
Be thankful for this great gift and continue to educate yourself on it. Christ is here ready to forgive and heal, to guide and teach, to be your best friend. What more could we possibly need or want?
Today’s challenge: As a young person (or adult) be a sponge and learn as much as you can, especially soak up as much knowledge as you can about God every day for the rest of your life. The more you know God the more you know about yourself. The more you know yourself, the better your relationships will be. Most importantly, it means nothing if we do not love with the knowledge, understanding, and wisdom we gain. Do something with the graces God gives you!
Be a servant, be a saint today!
