Prayer Prompt before reading JN 16:5-11: Come, Holy Spirit, teach me how to pray, interpret the Scriptures for me so that I may know the Truth about who God the Father is and God the Son so that I may know who I am.
WHAT WILL JESUS LEAVE BEHIND BEFORE HE ASCENDS THAT IS ESSENTIAL FOR OUR SALVATION?
Humbly submit your will to God (thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.
Jesus leaves us with the Holy Spirit. He even says it is better if He goes and leaves us the Holy Spirit. How can we have something better than Jesus?
This is revolutionary! If a person is about to leave for a long time and wanted to leave behind the most important things that he/she can, it would include the most important material things and the wisest words. In Jesus’ case, that would be the most important spiritual things and the Truth in Word and Spirit. God is the most intelligent. He does not make mistakes and today’s words from Jesus are profound. ”But I tell you the truth, it is better for you that I go.”
Why? Jesus is outside of us, Jesus breathes the Holy Spirit inside of us. We often look for God in so many places when He is right inside of us. This should change the way we pray, the way we act, the way we understand how we are saved. The Holy Spirit is the first installment of our salvation! Yet, I believe the least taught Person of the Trinity and the greatest gift God gave us after dying for our sins!
The Holy Spirit guides us when we read the Scriptures and pray. The best but most often hardest way to pray is in silence; God is found in a still small voice (“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10) Christ’s Spirit speaks to us in the silence. I have found it wise to ask the Holy Spirit to guide me each day increasing the gifts and fruits of the Spirit inside me that I received at Baptism and Confirmation.
The greatest gift God gives us is Himself in the Holy Spirit, the love between the Father and Son that is so great we have the Holy Spirit. If we open ourselves up to the guidance of the Holy Spirit we can be transformed by God!
Jesus said to his disciples:
“I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now.
But when he comes, the Spirit of truth,
he will guide you to all truth.
He will not speak on his own,
but he will speak what he hears,
and will declare to you the things that are coming.” Jn 16:12-15
Jesus said to his disciples:
“As the Father loves me, so I also love you.
Remain in my love.
If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love,
just as I have kept my Father’s commandments
and remain in his love.” Jn 15:9-17
Jesus leaves us the Holy Spirit for a reason. It is God’s salvation plan for us to have the spiritual powers of intellect and free will to fight sin/Satan and love. He gives us the Truth. He commands us to love. He gives us the Holy Spirit to guide us and accomplish this.
Therefore, He gives Himself totally and completely in a covenant of blood and His love lives on in us with the Holy Spirit. His grace, His life, His Spirit lives on in those who are baptized. He has done everything He can to restore what sin has damaged and call us home to our heavenly Father. In the Holy Spirit, heaven is in our heart with the Father, Son, and Spirit! Slow down and listen to what they want to tell you today and every day of your life! Wow! His radical love for us brings comfort, peace, and joy. Amen.
Today’s challenge: Allow yourself to be guided by the Holy Spirit! Say “Come, Holy Spirit” every day any time.
Pray:
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful, and kindle in them the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created,
and you shall renew the face of the earth.
Let us pray.
O God, who have taught the hearts of the faithful
by the light of the Holy Spirit,
grant that in the same Spirit we may be truly wise
and ever rejoice in his consolation.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Pray:
