Prayer Prompt before reading LK 9:1-6: Come, Holy Spirit, teach me how to pray, interpret the Scriptures for me so that I may know the Truth about who God the Father is and God the Son so that I may know who I am.
“TAKE NOTHING FOR THE JOURNEY…” LK 9:1-6
Humbly submit your will to God and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.
Jesus teaches two important things today. He can give those he has chosen the power and authority over demons, the ability to heal, or anything else he wants. This means that through Apostolic Succession (tracing Pope Leo XIV back to St. Peter) and laying on of hands, Jesus has given power and authority through the Holy Spirit to those who are ordained to lead the Church.
Second, Jesus teaches us to take nothing for the journey. What material baggage are we carrying with us that is keeping us from totally and completely loving God or could be leading us away from God. It could be money, electronics, overindulgence, unnecessary material things.
On our journey to sainthood we will have to conquer the world, our flesh, and the devil. It will require fasting, praying, and giving alms. Take nothing for the journey and trust totally and completely in God. I have a lot of work to do, but with God’s grace and inviting Him into conquering these things I am making progress!
Today’s challenge: Give to the poor in your home, school, community. Anyone who needs something is poor. See a need, fill a need-Fr. Mike Schmitz Be humble, live with a poor spirit that recognizes each day we need God and to put Him first before everything. Work on one part of your personality that is hindering you from becoming more holy. Reflect on what material thing(s) are taking you away from God. Take small steps to rid yourself from this material item.
Be a servant, become a saint!
