Prayer Prompt before reading LK 16:19-31: Come, Holy Spirit, teach me how to pray well, interpret the Scriptures for me so that I may know the Truth about who God the Father and God the Son are so that I may know who I am.

“MOREOVER, BETWEEN US AND YOU A GREAT CHASM IS ESTABLISHED TO PREVENT ANYONE FROM CROSSING WHO MIGHT WISH TO GO FROM OUR SIDE TO YOURS OR FROM YOUR SIDE TO OURS.” LK 16:19-31

Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.

Jesus teaches us today what happens if we don’t bring the Gospel to people. We have one shot to get this right (#Christian YOLO). This is why God gives us time, He likes to see things grow. We may not get it right the first time and we may need more time to get it right. We are living in the end times, the times after Jesus’ resurrection. Jesus can come back at any time for the Second Coming.

“If they will not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded if someone should rise from the dead.” We have the Word of God in the Bible, God’s breath, to teach us how to gain salvation (God’s will for us: He has one great desire, that you and I are with Him in heaven, our salvation-Pope Francis) and lead others to Christ. We have the Holy Spirit to guide us and lead us to virtue.

Today’s Gospel teaches us there are no second chances when it comes to eternal life. The time we have here is a gift. Since Jesus rose from the dead, this life is not the final horizon. We are made for a spiritual homeland. It is time to start rearranging our priorities and live putting our full trust in God. Today is a great time to rearrange priorities and dust away the cobwebs of a hardened heart.

It is a time to love our soul more than our body. We cannot take THINGS, power, money, pleasure or honor (4 things we must despise that we think will make us happy-St. Thomas Aquinas). All we can take is the times we were unselfish and put others before self, the times we loved as Jesus loves us.

Today’s challenge: Live like today is your last day on earth. What would you do differently? What legacy do you want to leave behind. Most regrets on death beds are not loving as much as they should have; love of spouse, love of parents, love of children, or spending more time with God and family. Put down your electronics and spend time loving God and family. There are no second chances after we die. We don’t know the day or the hour the Master will return. We don’t know when God is going to call our number. Most importantly, He just wants to be your best friend!

Be a servant, become a saint!

This is saying that no matter how much proof or evidence one receives, they will not believe any sort of claim unless they are open to changing their belief.

‘Oh no, father Abraham, but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’ Then Abraham said, ‘If they will not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded if someone should rise from the dead.'”
This part stuck out to me because its saying that if we wont even listen to or believe our priests or Holy brothers and sisters. How can we listen to God? They are sharing the word of God with us, God is speaking through them. Yet some of us wont even take them seriously because they aren’t the Lord so they don’t have the authority that God has. No they have the authority because God is speaking THROUGH them God is giving them the thoughts, the feelings, the words to speak. They are the physical representation of God. Yet we still wont believe in their words, unless the Lord is saying those exact words.

Today’s Gospel Jesus tells a tale when a rich man had everything he could ever want at his disposal but then there was a man named Lazarus who had nothing and the dogs usually lick his sores. But you might have noticed that Jesus said and recognize only Lazarus and not the rich man Jesus say rich man not John or something and he takes pity on Lazarus because he was poor and now in heaven is rejoicing.

Today’s Gospel is trying to say that it doesn’t matter what kind of things you have on earth, it only matters how you treat others and God. The rich man had many things that he did not need at all and they distracted him from what really mattered. While Lazarus didn’t have anything but he did have good faith and that is all that really matters. So today, try to be like Lazarus and step away from the things that are taking you away from God. He will always be there for you, so you just have to be there for Him.

Something that stood out to me about this was that a chasm is established because say if you were called something and you wanted to get back at the person who called you that name. That chasm is created to prevent us from doing something that we might someday regret.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus said that there is no second chance in life. We get one chance in this world, so we must do it right by spreading the word of God throughout the world. But we get things wrong, it ‘s okay to get things God made us so we can learn from our mistakes.

What stuck out to me in today’s Gospel was that you get one chance to eternal life and every ounce of time we have here is a gift. Spend your time on earth getting closer to God so you can have eternal in the place you were made to be. I really like “Live like today is your last day on earth” because we truly never know when that will be. So be God’s best friend and live your life with no regrets.

What I got from this scripture reflection is that we need to live every day like it could be our last. We never know when Jesus will call us home, so we need to learn to be prepared for that always. WE can prepare for that by always putting others first and to love others like God loves us. There will not be any second chances after we get called home, so we need to have a life that doesn’t need a second chance.

Today’s Gospel told me that even if you have luxury items it doesn’t equal faith in God. Father in God is much more important than what we have in material. God wants us to be happy with Him and not be happy with something else. The rich man didn’t care that the poor man was suffering.

I think the phrase “He has one great desire, that you and I are with Him in heaven” and I think its important because poeple seem to forgot that everything you do in life is just a trial for when you go to purgatory. Everyone will go to purgatory after they die and they must bear suffering and repent for their sins to be allowed into heaven

This passage warns that neglecting and rejecting the poor leads to eternal separation from God, showing that indifference to suffering is a sin. Lazarus a rich man, who lived in luxury, ends in torment, just showing that God’s justice flips earthly hierarchies or leaders. In the end we dont stay on earth forever and being the most popular wont matter and all the earthly things wont matter we need to respond with love and compassion and unlike the rich man we need to share our wealth or at least help out.

How you treat others reflects on who you are as a person. The poor man treated others with kindness and went the heaven. But while the rich man had everything he wanted in this world he treated others as though they were less than him, and he went to hell.

He will return for Second Coming, He teaches us that we need to spread the Gospel to others, he gives us one shit and gives us time to make that shot correct so if you feel like giving up remember God is always on your side, he will never stop loving you. Now is the time to repent for your sins and start giving to others. Better late then never just remebmer, repent, love, and give.

Jesus warns us that wealth and status in this life do not guarantee favor in the next, emphasizing that our treatment of the vulnerable has eternal consequences. It highlights a “great chasm” that becomes fixed after death, meaning our earthly choices eventually lead to an unalterable destiny. By mentioning Moses and the Prophets, Jesus teaches that Scripture provides all the guidance necessary for repentance and right living. Ultimately, the story suggests that if a person’s heart is close to God’s word, even a sign like someone rising from the dead will not convince them to change.

In Today’s gospel, the great chasm was not the physical distance between the rich man’s table and his front door, but the indifference in the rich man’s heart. He did not actively harm Lazarus; he simply failed to see him. He was so consumed by his own rich life that the suffering human being at his doorstep became part of the landscape, invisible and ignored.

The Gospel told me that we should be generous to others. If we are, heaven is waiting for us. Those who do not give up stuff for others will suffer. The rich man is paying his price and asking for Lazarus to warn his brothers, but Abraham said in reply, “If they will not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded if someone should rise from the dead.

The rich man asked for pity from Abraham but he tells hims about pity. It tells us that we only have 1 chance and if we die we cant change what we said.

Lazarus lives a life of suffering, the dogs lick his sores and he is cast out from society but God has favor over him. If we live our life lavishly we will be sent away from God but if we suffer we will be saved.

In today’s Gospel it speaks about how a rich man goes to hell and a suffering sick man going to Heaven. The rich man had every trivial objective thing he could’ve wanted in life but he did not share when he had the opportunity to. The sick man,Lazarus, had nothing and was out casted and lived a life full of sorrow and suffering. When both of the men died, the rich man went to hell while the sick man went to Heave. A lesson to learn from this is when we suffer in life and bear our crosses we will be rewarded with the Kingdom of God.

I have heard this Gospel many times and I have heard a lot of Homilies on this Gospel. Everyone finds this Gospel frightening because they are working to try and get what is best for them and their family. When many people read this Gospel they are frightened of what will happen to them. They always strive for their best life here so they think that they are condemning themselves by doing this. The priests I hear preach all say that this is not true. Just like Therese of Lisu it is the little way. Tithing, service hours, and being kind are all ways to avoid being rich and greedy.

Today’s gospel says “When the poor man died, he was carried away by angels to the bosom of Abraham. The rich man also died and was buried, and from the netherworld, where he was in torment, he raised his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side.” This shows that those who live a selfish and rich life on Earth will be the ones who suffer in eternal life. This also shows that the people who are poor and kind now are going to be the ones who live happily and comfortably in eternal life. “Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of God.” That is one of the Beatitudes. Jesus uses those to teach us and this one teaches us the same things that the parable of the rich man and Lazarus. That those who live comfortable lives on Earth will suffer in eternal life and those who suffer on Earth will be comfortable in eternal life.

That seeing what could happen to you is more worth believing than someone telling you want will happen to you.

I think the Gospel today tells me that I should love others as if today was my last day to love them, because eventually it wont matter if I looked good or was smart or funny, God wants me to love others. As easy as it may seem to do, it isn’t. Its harder than most things like rock climbing or swimming etc. But the more we practice, the more virtue we have, the easier it will get, to love, flourish, and to succeed in our mission. Even though we won’t be on this earth forever, but we can still eternally love and be loved by God. And I think, well actually I know that’s all we need.

In this story it shows that no matter how rich or poor you are you can still go to Heaven or hell. While, he was in hell he told Abraham to want his 5 siblings so that they may not end up there. The one thing God wants the most from us is to make it into Heaven and be with him there forever. Not only should we try to make it into Heaven, but we should help others on the way there too. That’s why it’s important to spread the gospel so that others may make it into Heaven with us as well. Our time on Earth is limited so we should cherish it and make the most of it.

We shouldn’t just wait for a heavenly sign, but have faith that the Gospel is true and Jesus is our Lord. We must also have that if we are going through bad times that Jesus still wants us and we have to seek Him out. Not just sit around and wait for Him to tell us something. Everything we do on Earth is temporary, but one thing that doesn’t get forgotten is our actions. Did we choose to do the write thing in the face of hard times? In the Gospel, today it says that it wont be easy to get to heaven. We have to put others first, and help them. The golden rule is a perfect example to being like Christ. If you be nice to others and serve them FIRST, then you will take one step closer to getting to heaven.

What I got out of this Gospel is that we must honor our spiritual life more than our physical one. For instance we should be taking care of our soul by not committing mortal and veniel sins we must keep our soul clean for God so when we receive the Eucharist our soul is pure and open towards God.

” There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. ” in todays gospel, this stuck out to me the most because, to me, I feel like Jesus is telling us to be grateful for what we have because in the eyes of others, what we cast aside is what other might treasure. We live in a spoiled country, nost people here don’t know of how other people in other 3rd world countries live.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells the parable of The Rich Man and Lazarus. He says that Lazarus was begging to the rich man with sores on his body, but the rich man just ignores Lazarus. Then when they both die, an angel picks up Lazarus and sends him to Abraham. But the rich man was sent to the netherworld and with torment. The rich man wants to be saved but Abraham tells him that if he would’ve cared for others, like Lazarus, he would’ve been out of torment.

I think this Gospel tells me that material thing wont get you into heaven. Its your love and loyalty to God that will. We should put God before everything else, not just to get into heaven but just because. God loves us with his whole heart so the least we can do is love him back and sacrifice some material things to put God first.

In today’s gospel it tells us that there is no second chance to have eternal life. The time we have here is a gift, we have to start giving up our time and space so we can make room for God, he will give us that eternal life we want and he will be with us and for as long as it takes for us to make it up to heaven with him.

Something that stuck with me when i read this is that “We cannot take THINGS, power, money, pleasure or honor”. The reason this was stuck with me when I read this this is that sometimes we would do things that aren’t us for money and give it power or honor. sometimes our own friends would make us do bad things for money like hitting someone, saying something unkind or weird. also people would do many other un-holy things for money just because they need it giving like power. Other things that we may honor is our own power or our ability to control things like people would start kinda honoring you if you had the power to do something unto them like ruin a reputation, or spreading nasty things about them. We need to humble ourselves and realize that God gave us all of this and we shouldnt honor or worship or give pleasure to other things but him. this doesnt mean you cant be happy and have pleasure in like a video game but just done make it so exercise you feel like it runs your life and without it your nothing.

“and lying at his door was a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores,” this is telling us that God doesn’t care what we look like, he doesn’t care where we live or what we gave he just wants us to get to heaven. He tells us that not by owing a lot o stuff but by being a good person we can get to heaven.

Today’s gospel teaches us to not be stubborn. ‘If they will not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded if someone should rise from the dead.’ We should listen to people who try to teach us. We should follow rules and be good examples so we can be happy in heaven with God. We should always listen to those who try to teach us.

In today’s gospel, God is not telling us that those you are blessed in life will go to hell, and those who receive nothing will automatically go to heaven. He is telling us, though, that what you do with the gifts you have been given determines where you will go after death. Those who show mercy to others and follow God’s will, will be rewarded with eternal life, and those who follow the temptations of the world will not. Also we don’t need to experience a miracle, we have already heard of miracles that have happened, the most important of which is Jesus rising from the dead. It will do us much better to believe in what we have not seen, rather than to put our faith in what we have already seen.

Today scripture tells us that we have to use our money for the better of others. We can have nice things but we have to assure that we do our part in helping others first before we buy ourselves something new. He said, “Then I beg you, father, send him
to my father’s house” we also have to humble our selves like the rich man did but he did it when it was to late that’s why we have all our time on Earth to fix this and make it right.

“Father Abraham, have pity on me. Send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am suffering torment in these flames.” The rich man had refused to help Lazarus when he was wealth and powerful and Lazarus was poor and suffering, however, when the rich man was suffering, he begged upon Lazarus to help him get a drink of water for him. Once his power and wealth were stripped away only his human sin and eternal suffering were left for him. It is not at all saying that power and money are sin filled, but people with those gifts disregard people without more often than not because they can be tempted by the devil into a conceited state of mind. Lazarus, through his poorness, was willing to eat the tinniest scrapes of food but the rich man would have most likely rather died then do something so lowly in his eyes.

In today’s Gospel Abraham tells us that if we don’t listen to what God’s word is now then we won’t believe in his miracles. We shouldn’t put earthly things above God because in the end none of that will matter to us, but God will.

In life, sometimes you might have too much of something. Whether that may be money, toys, or time, it is always good to give them to others who are struggling or poor. In today’s Gospel, Jesus speaks about the parable of the rich man and Lazarus. The rich man dressed lavishly and ate sumptuously, while Lazarus could only sit at the man’s door and watch as the rich man ate and gave him nothing. When Lazarus died, he was sent to paradise; in contrast, when the rich man died, he was sent to be tormented. Those who suffer the most on Earth will be the happiest in Heaven. Be kind and help those who are less fortunate than you, and God will see that and fill you up with gladness.

Today’s Gospel reminded me that riches on Earth won’t impact anything in the afterlife in heaven. It’s not that the rich go to hell and the poor go to heaven. It’s whoever listens and applies Jesus’s Gospel values to our every day lives and trying to not sin goes to heaven with Our Lord, Jesus Christ.

treat others with kindess. Treat others as if there were god himself because in a way they are. It dosen’t matter how much money you have or your status on earth, Jesus does not care about that. he cares about the character of your heart. The rich man pushed Lazarus away and did not help him, therefore he went to hell. Lazarus was kind but had no money, therefore he went to heaven.

What we do today when we are alive along with grace from God is what gets us to Heaven. Today I ask God to help me put up with others who I don’t like or who I ignore.

Into days Gospel I think that The rich man would not even give up little food no money. When all the poor man wanted was just a tiny bit to eat and the rich man would not even give a little even though he has a big home lots of money .But the poor man has is barley any money maybe not even a hosue and he probobly is hungry because he hasnt eatin for awhile. So when the poor man and the rich man die the poor man gets to go to Heaven and be with God and is in a very good place. Then the rich man gose to hell and he wants forgiveness but he could not give anything up for the poor so he will now have to stay there

this is my favorite saying or part from the scripter. We cannot take THINGS, power, money, pleasure or honor (4 things we must despise that we think will make us happy-St. Thomas Aquinas). these to sentence sum up the whole thing. Put down your electronics and spend time loving God and family. There are no second chances after we die. Most regrets on death beds are not loving as much as they should have; love of spouse, love of parents, love of children, or spending more time with God and family.

this was a great page good job Mr. Goertz.

“If they will not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded if someone should rise from the dead.” this stood out to me because the rich man is like you should send Lazarus to my brothers to tell them to repent cause they would listen to a dead person. but Abraham’s like, so they wont listen to the people who are alive and they have to see to believe? they wont believe if the son of man dies and raises from the dead! he saying nothing could make them repent unless they choose to.

“If they will not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded if someone should rise from the dead.” this stook out to me because it showed how untrusting people were and maybe still are to the prophets. What I’m getting from that verse is that trust in the prophets and you don’t need someone to come back from the dead to tell you to be ready because Jesus already did.

What I took from today’s gospel is that you should always try and be nice to others. You need to go to confession and confess your sins if you don’t there are consequences. You need to also try and stop sinning. Once you get to hell you can not go back to earth and can’t cross over to heaven.

What I took away from this Gospel was that if we are greedy and only want to do what makes life easier for us and only care about ourselves then we will have very very bad chances of getting to heaven. But, if we care about others and help them with their hardships without expecting anything in return we will have great chances of getting to heaven.

Abraham says that “…between us and you a great chasm is established to prevent anyone from crossing who might wish to go from our side to yours or from your side to ours.” I took this to mean that there is a seemingly insurmountable barrier between being good and being bad. It will seem impossible to caome from bad to good, and vice versa. It will also seem hard to come to bad ways from good, but not as hard.

In today’s Gospel, it talks about being selfish and rude. Like the rich man, many of us have too much pride to help those in need, like the homeless and just the least in general. You should always help others and help those in need. If you help those that are less than you, God loves you and if you help the less, he will save you, but if you just sit and ignore them then you might want to change to reach God.
