Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.
Jesus said to the chief priests and the elders of the people:
“What is your opinion?
A man had two sons.
He came to the first and said,
‘Son, go out and work in the vineyard today.’
The son said in reply, ‘I will not,’
but afterwards he changed his mind and went.
The man came to the other son and gave the same order.
He said in reply, ‘Yes, sir,’ but did not go.
Which of the two did his father’s will?”
They answered, “The first.”
Jesus said to them, “Amen, I say to you,
tax collectors and prostitutes
are entering the Kingdom of God before you.
When John came to you in the way of righteousness,
you did not believe him;
but tax collectors and prostitutes did.
Yet even when you saw that,
you did not later change your minds and believe him.” MT 21:28-32
During the Advent readings, I continue to hear Jesus say, “I am giving you every sign you need to know the Messiah is among you.” He rarely uses words but the Jews should easily be able to see the prophecies the Christ is fulfilling in front of their eyes. Today, even if Jesus was being videotaped and posted on Facebook and YouTube there would be people saying that those miracles are fake, it’s magic, that is being photo-shopped. Even if Jesus came into our home, school, or business and preached and performed miracles in front of us, when He left we would still have to believe and follow Him. We would have to research by what power He was doing these things. We would want to know if this is really the truth and what He was doing was real.
Belief begins in our hearts and then follows through with our intellect and will (actions)-Peter Kreeft. This is why silent prayer is necessary to gain heaven. God is in our heart because we are baptized and have the Holy Spirit in us. ”When John came to you in the way of righteousness, you did not believe him; but tax collectors and prostitutes did.” Jesus is telling us that no matter what our past entails, if we open our heart and believe, God’s grace can do the impossible. It is only by God’s grace and doing His Will that we believe, this is the gift of faith. Be bold and believe in the One who is trying to love you. This brings great peace and joy! Jesus said to him, “Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed.” John 20:29
Today’s challenge: Learn to be still. Increase the time you spend in silence if possible in a Church or the Adoration chapel, if not in a silent place in the home (if you can find one) or in nature. Open your heart up and believe. Open your heart up and allow God to heal you in confession.
it takes practice to get close to God so i just need to believe / do it
it takes practice to get close to God so i just need to believe / do it.
God is trying to tell us that Even if you say you are going to do it and don’t do it that is as bad as just saying you are not going to do it. When you do it, it gives you a sense of accomplishment. So when you follow God you are going closer but when you and not doing what he tells you are falling away.
Jesus is telling me that everyone is not what they seem. The first brother told his father he wouldn’t work, and then did it anyway. The second brother said he would work, but never did. These two both did the opposite of what they told their father, but the first brother did his will. Jesus is telling me not to judge or assume things about others.
Today the scripture is telling me that sometimes people can be too logical and skeptical. Those things are good in the right amounts. But too much skepticism leads to paranoia. You wouldn’t be able to trust anything at all. Sometimes it’s good to let your guard down.
It saying that even the less spiritual can hear God because they want to and if you are like an angel but don’t actually take time to learn and hear to who God is you won’t be able to hear his call.
I think this is trying to say that we don’t need to have anything but faith to know that Jesus is with us. The tax collectors and the prostitutes believed John’s teachings, but others didn’t. Its showing that we can be sinners, yet believe in the word that God is trying to tell us.
This gospel today taught me that praying in necessary to get into heaven. If we don’t reach for God, than we can’t expect God to reach for us. We all need to build our relationship with God and a way to do that is to pray. Praying shows that you are engaging in loving God and you are trying to get to heaven. Praying is hard when you don’t know how to.
We are starting to believe in the things that we enjoy too much. It is always good to believe in things you enjoy but if you enjoy something bad for you, that gives you sin, you are enjoying the wrong thing. I hear today in the Gospel that we need to believe in the good things like God, and the Holy Spirit because that is the most important thing to enjoy and believe in.
in today’s gospel, Jesus tells the people that it is better if a person says no and changes their mind and does it than if a person says yes and does not do it. This can relate to my life because instead of pretending I need to actually go out and do things. I can say yes but I have to actually do it.
I think Jesus is saying we have to put our pride to the side and listen to and trust God. The sinners such as tax collectors and prostitutes repented to Jesus and hung out with Him and everyone judged Jesus for this because the tax collectors and prostitutes were not living the way they were suppose to. We have to give up ourselves and everything around us to follow Jesus truly and to it’s fullest.
We need to listen to what God has to tell us. Either if we are sinning or not God is with us trying to grow deeper within your heart. We can talk to God through prayer or Scripture. But we need to listen to what He has to tell us.
It is very important to do what our parents tell us to do. They are the ones that shape our lives. The 5th Commandment: Honor your Father and Mother. In order for something to be in the Ten Commandments, it has to be a big deal. And it is. If God included it in His Commandments, He really meant what he commanded.
Also, our parents deserve our respect. After all, they protect us and raise us to be outstanding human beings.
Like the two sons we have to make a decision whether or not we will do the Father’s will. In order to enter the Kingdom of heaven we having to be willing to do what God tells us. We have to not only follow His word but also help others to the same in this Christian family. God doesn’t ask much from us so least we can do is try our best to not sin.
When Jesus says “When John came to you in the way of righteousness, you did not believe him; but tax collectors and prostitutes did. Yet even when you saw that, you did not later change your minds and believe him” He is saying that we should do what the tax collectors and prostitutes did. To change our minds and follow him.
This Scripture passage kinda confuses me sometimes, but I think that the point that Jesus is trying to get across is that the Pharisees know in this parable who was right, yet they cannot do the right themselves. He uses this Parable to show that, saying, “When John came to you in the way of righteousness, you did not believe him.” So, we need to give everything to Christ, our Savior and Lord, and believe that he is the one, and that he can do this!
I think this scripture is saying to always trust in God and follow his foot steps. We may get a calling to do something that we may not like or wanna do but God is the one calling and he knows whats best for us so we need to follow him.
We should rely and trust in Jesus regardless of what other may think. We should help others rather than only shaming them.
The most sinful among the Jews would enter the Kingdom of Heaven before the righteous, because they believed, and the righteous did not. The Jews thought that Jesus would come and overthrow the Romans, as a powerful, rich leader. After that, then what? Would they just stray again, to the wolves of the woods, away from the shepherd, and cry out for Him to save them, only to once again stray away? Why do we imitate them and follow them to the woods, away from the field God has provided? Do we think that we will find more there? The Lord has provided all that we need. Why, then, do we run away?
To believe means to have faith in something.
What it means to beleive, I think it means to have faith to not give up in a person. If you have faith then you beleive or you trust that that is true youu have faith.
No matter what you think. You must believe that God will always help you.
What struck my attention was, “he changed his mind and went”. What this says to me is that we can always go back. Even after sinning God will always forgive us, and embrace us. If we’re going down the wrong path, there is ALWAYS a way to get back on the right path.
I think Jesus is saying that it’s not to late to turn to him. When the man said no but then he went, that’s like us saying no to God. But we still have a chance to turn to him. It’s not to late to have a relationship with Jesus.
To belive is to have faith or trust in someone or something. We should belive in God because he saved us from sin.
In today’s Scripture Jesus is saying that we need to be true with God. If He asks us to do something for Him we need to answer truthfully if we cant we are betraying Him. When saying yes Lord I can do it and then not doing it is breaking the Lords trust with you.
Believing in something is to know some thing is true or real without having seen it. When you believe in some thong you will devote your self to it and make it the center of your life.
No matter what you think, you must believe that God will always help you.
I think Jesus is trying to say is that we are like the second son. We say that we believe in him but we don’t. All of the people that have done bad and they know they’ve done bad things turn to God and they believe in him.I think Jesus is trying to say is that we are like the second son. We say that we believe in him but we don’t. All of the people that have done bad and they know they’ve done bad things turn to God and they believe in him.
Even if we say wrong, if we do good then we are following God’s will. Sure, the son may have said no, but he ended up doing his father’s will anyway. Sure, we sin, but as long as we repent and do God’s will, we are following him.
Jesus is trying to tell us that it doesn’t matter what we say we’re going to do. What matters is if we do it or not. God wants us to act upon His word and do what He tells us to do in the bible. What does it mean to believe? Believing is truly accepting. It also means to have faith in it. We should fully believe in everything Jesus teaches us.
what this scripture is saying about do you believe is that the first son of the man the man asked his son will you help me and the son replied i will not but then he went to work on the vineyard then the man ask’s his 2 son and and told him that if he could work in the vineyard and the 2 son say yes i will to believe is like to know a lot of thing. “When John came to you in the way of righteousness,
you did not believe him;
but tax collectors and prostitutes did.
Yet even when you saw that,
you did not later change your minds and believe him.
this is what i kinda means to believe to trust to have faith.
I think this passage shows you can always repent. When the first son said no but he changed his mind and went anyways, and he did the right thing. We do bad things because of human nature. That doesn’t make us bad people. What makes us bad is choosing not repent. If we say we are going to do the right thing, but do the wrong thing and choose not to change, is wrong. Just like the second son. If we do bad things but change and repent, that is what make us good people.
I think this passage is telling us that we have a choice to do the right things even though we’ve fallen many times in our life. When it says “He came to the first and said, ‘Son, go out and work in the vineyard today.’ The son said in reply, ‘I will not,’ but afterwards he changed his mind and went.”: this shows us that the son chose to do what he was told after he thought about his decision, we can always turn back on our sins and do the right thing.
That To believe is when you show and prove to God about how we can show him are love and belief. By useing your self to do you in the image of God.
Because some did not believe in Jesus
I think that this Gospel is saying that if you say you do something and you need to do and not just let them think that you’ll do it. It just takes up more time in your day and in others day. Also you don’t have to agree to do something which is what the first son does and he ends up going to do that and saves time in others days.
When the first son said I will not then did it I think his conscience was telling him that he needed to do it so he could make his father proud but when he asked the second son he said he would then never did. So the first son would be the good guy and he who helps even when they don’t want to just to make people happy doesn’t mean there bad that means they care about others in this earth.
Today, the scripture told me that I need to believe. Sometimes people or even our phones tell us other wise. We are all human and fall into that temptation. But, we need to truly believe in Jesus and his grace and his second coming. People tell us that there will be a second coming so be ready. But, do we truly believe it and willingly except it. Jesus lets us have his grace because he believes and truly loves us. But, do we believe that when we sin we NEED he grace. We need to believe more than just what people say.
I think the scripture is saying that you need to believe that the kingdom of heaven is at hand and you need to believe to enter it and not be denied. For believing in him is our main task to enter into the kingdom of God. Even if there are bad things you’ve done in your past you can change and begin to believe and not be denied access into the kingdom.
I think the Gospel is saying we have to believe in and truly know God.We also have to put forward effort to know him.Sometimes people don’t ever get to fully know God.If we pray and we try our hardest to imitate him we can know him better, so we can go to Heaven.
I think today’s scripture is trying to tell me that belief comes from our hearts. Humans often don’t believe things if they don’t have evidence to support it, especially visual evidence. If you really try talking to God using the language of silence, God will respond. People try to deny God’s existence, and the people who do probably haven’t even tried talking to God.
It takes, as the saying goes, “seeing is believing”. When we see the things and works that God does in our daily lives, we believe in him. So why should others not? We need to know that we don’t understand everything, but we do know that God is the one who created us. When we see the things that God does, we believe. So should not others as well? We cannot give in to peer pressure when we know that the true power on Earth and in the afterlife, is Jesus.
The scripture is saying that do not make commitments that you can not keep. Second of all be truthful. The first son said no because he did not know if was able then he was and he truthful. That is what God wants us to be. Now the second son said he could and he did not do it. I am going back to my second point saying that to be truthful with people of higher power. The second need to say maybe or I will try if you say you will do it God will Know the real answer.
This is saying that we say one thing but then do another like I am going to mass but ends up just being on your phone because you don’t fell like going. God tells people to do things for him and they say they will but then decide not to. Like Peter says to Jesus I won’t deny you three times I love you Lord. But He ends up doing it anyway. If you believe in God then you will go to Heaven. God isn’t just going to be like Actually I don’t feel like letting you go to Heaven you can stay in purgatory.
I think that this means everyone is equal. I didn’t think about that until I read it again, but it says that tax collectors and prostitutes came the him, but the priests and elders did not. The priests and elders think they are better than that so they do not follow because most of them are bad people. It means that we are all human and loved by God.
i Think the gospel is trying to tell us that we need to speak and listen to God. The gospel says ´´ This is why silent prayer is necessary to gain heaven. Its right there in the gospel God wants to talk to you he wants to have the trust and friendship that you would have with your best friend. jesus says if all the bad are happening to you everything will be better if you believe.
What I think this scripture is saying is that we have to sometimes trust our opinion. We may believe something and others don’t. That is our opinion. It is what we think. Like how some people do not believe in God, but we do. It is their choice and their opinion if they do or if they don’t. Like how we also have an opinion to believe in God or not to believe in God. I believe in God and that is my opinion.
How do you Believe? This is a very detailed question. The definition of Believe is, to know something is right or true. The first step to believing is to ask yourself what you are wanting to believe, so if that is that God is truly divine then start there. The second step is to increase your knowledge upon it and really figure out who you are as a person. Once you have done that, lastly you have to Believe. This word might still be hard to understand, so hear is my perspective of how to believe. You need to have faith. It might sound simple, but it is not. The answer to all of your questions is God, so if you are lost look to him, because he is always looking down on you.
“He came to the first and said, ‘Son, go out and work in the vineyard today.’ The son said in reply, ‘I will not,’ but afterwards he changed his mind and went.” This confuses me a bit. Why did the son change his mind. Was it because he felt bad for refusing to go to the vineyard, or was it because of the man who told him to go to the vineyard? It’s all just sort of an anomoly to me.
he hellps us and shows us nit to de a frad
We are like the 2nd son.We say we will do stuff but then we don’t.An example is We say we’re going to go to Sunday mass, but then on Sunday we’re to tired and just want to stay home.
“The man came to the other son and gave the same order. He said in reply, ‘Yes, sir,’ but did not go.” What think God is trying to tell us here is that we are like this second son. We say we are Catholic but do we truly strive to make our relationship with God better. Some of us can truly say yes to this question but more people can’t say yes to this. It’s almost like we are lying to ourselves. We might say we are going to pray or say we are going to go to adoration. In the end we end up not going to adoration or praying. What I think we need to work on as a Catholic society is growing in our relationship with God. We can do this by being like the first son. We might be like no i’m not going to do that but really we need to expect that nudge from go to tell us that we should do it. Once we do that we will grow immensely in our relationship with God.
The gospel today is telling me that we should always follow in God’s footsteps and act the way he would want us to act. God would never be mean to people so that also tells us that we should not be mean to anyone either. We need to treat each other with respect just as God would.
I think that God is telling us that everything takes time to achieve what you want to achieve in your faith.
I think that this Gospel is telling me that we all have a choice. We choose whether or not we go to Heaven with God by following the will of Christ, or we can choose to disobey Him. Just like the two brothers, we have a decision so make. We can decided to believe in Him or not. He does everything He can for us and some of us just choose to completely shut us out. We should follow in God’s footsteps so that we too may go to Heaven with Him.
I think it means when people see some one who is very Holy they deny it because they are jealous of how their ways of following Jesus are a lot better.
The Gospel told me that it is okay to say no and then change your mind and does rather than saying yes and not doing it. I can relate this to my life because there have been a few times where I told someone that I wasn’t able to do something but then I ended and doing it. I have asked people to do something for me one time and they yes but they ended up not being able to do it. I think that it is important to do what you say because people could might have plans and if you do the opposite of what they asked they will get really mad.
Today I think that Jesus is telling me that the lowly enter the kingdom of heaven, the arrogant ignore miracles as tricks, and God’s words as the words of a simple man, where as the lowly know Jesus’s works and follow his words.
Believe. This gospel message is telling us the whole point of advent and main focus which is to believe. Believe in God and in his plan for us and having faith in him will get us to where we need to be.
Jesus is giving us every sign to show that he is the Lord. If we go up and hear Jesus speak without listening, then we are like the son who said “Yes I will” but did not. You can’t have heart without ears to heart. It’s right in the middle. Heart need ears; hEARt. We need to listen and hear? Are you like the righteous? Or are you like the sinners? The sinners we are. But do we actually listen to Jesus. and if we do, do we hear Him. You can’t spell heart without ear. Do you hear and listen? Actually listen? We should. All the signs are there.
Today the Gospel is telling us that it is better to say you don’t believe in Jesus but then get converted than to say you believe but not actually believe. If you get converted even if you claimed that were a firm disbeliever then Jesus will be happy that you found your way to him. If you tell people that you believe to look better but you don’t make any attempt to show that you think it’s true then your not really believing and you are kind of telling a lie.
I think this scripture is saying always to believe in Jesus and follow him. Jesus is always the Way the Truth and the Light. Jesus doesn’t make mistakes and he always perfect and always there for you.
This scripture is telling me that even bad people can change. Like the prostitutes and tax collectors. They repented and do God’s will.
It saying that even the less spiritual can hear God because they want to and if you are like an angel but don’t actually take time to learn and hear to who God is you won’t be able to hear his call.
This scripture tells us that people may give you an attitude but will do it, but there are people who tell you that they will do it and will never do it. Jesus is telling us to believe. It doesn’t mean that if everything in your life is bad right now, it doesn’t mean that you loose your faith in Jesus and think that he is not here with you. You have to believe that Jesus is here with you, guiding you through the right path. It us just up to you if you want to follow that path or not.
This scripture is about belief. I feel like Jesus is giving us a sign in the Advent season. I have started to read the book of John for my first book of the Bible. I may not read every day but I pick out phrases in every chapter that stick out. When I started to read John chapter 1 One verse in particular stuck out to me. It said, “I am a voice crying out in the desert, make straight the way of the Lord.” The next day on Tuesday, at mass, I heard it again similar to the verse before. I think Jesus is letting us know to believe and fix our lives to make the way of the Lord straight. So, repent and make straight the way of the Lord.
I think that the gospel for today is telling me that we should set aside our ego and put God first all the time and do everything he calls us to do.
All I have to say is Believe in Him! We are hear on the Earth to do God’s will. The day you accept his invitation you have become a servant of God. He will do wondrous thing for you and He will listen to whatever you have to say. By believing in God, it will change your life forever. It will give you a purpose in life and will help you to push yourself through whatever gets in the way. He loves you with all His heart and I think you should too. When someone asks you do something, do it because through them is Jesus, He’s asking you to do it. So, I think if you were to imagine it was him right there in front of you, you would say yes. Anyways, just believe, you will think differently and help you to love everyone around you and accept who they are or how they act. Kindness is the key in life.
We are here to do Gods will and so many people do not care. So many people do not put time for God when he is the whole reason we are on this planet yet people do not beleive in him. When will they open their eyes! God will never leave you! God loves you! God created you! God is your Father! Yet you still don’t see the truth? You don’t see His open loving arms? He Loves you! He wants you to know Him and to love Him and to make it to heaven!
Always believe in God and follow him. You never know when he might come back. It could be tomorrow or in a thousand years.
I think this scripture is saying that you should set everything aside and follow God with all your heart
