Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary.
Herod the tetrarch heard about all that was happening,
and he was greatly perplexed because some were saying,
“John has been raised from the dead”;
others were saying, “Elijah has appeared”;
still others, “One of the ancient prophets has arisen.”
But Herod said, “John I beheaded.
Who then is this about whom I hear such things?”
And he kept trying to see him. Lk 9:7-9
Today, Luke begins to write about the identity of Jesus and he uses Herod as the person who is “perplexed” about what the people were saying. The identity of Jesus will be revealed in the coming Gospel readings. The question I would like to pose today is who is Jesus for you? Is He a slot machine where you put petitions in and expect Him to grant your every wish in return? Do we sin knowing we can just go to confession so it is no big deal because Jesus will forgive us (sin of presumption)? Have we ever read one of the Gospels beginning to end in search of the identity of Jesus? It is one thing to know about Jesus and another to know Jesus.
Most importantly, do we spend time in adoration with Jesus listening to what He has to say? Jesus is about to reveal His identity in the upcoming Gospel readings. Listen to what He says and decide if you really believe. If so, it requires a radical change in your life. As a baptized believer in Jesus Christ our duty is to reject Satan and follow Jesus more closely each day (strive for holiness). Jesus gave all for you, are you willing to give all for Him? He wants to give you true happiness.
Today’s challenge: Christianity is a religion that is a relationship with a person. If you are searching for true happiness, seek Jesus the God Man. Take time each day to listen to Him.
Be a servant, become a saint!

I must look for Jesus myself, a Herod tried…
I can apply this to my life reading the gospel and praying each day to get closer to Jesus
Jesus is our savior he is God in man. Jesus sacrificed his life to forgive all of our sins.
I can apply this to my life by believing that God is fully alive in the Eucharist and that there is one God no gods just one God. I can also pray so i can find God through prayer.
The scripture tells us to think about who God is and if we really believe in Him.
Jesus wants us to be happy and strive for his love. So we have to show him that we love him. He also is willing to give anything to us if we pray. It is different thing than to know about him than to have a connection with him.
I think that Herod represents us in this Gospel. We are the ones questioning who Jesus is in our life. I think the people also represent society, in the way that there is so many different opinions about who Jesus is, so many different religions and cultures telling us either he’s God, or he’s a fraud and liar. Just like Herod, it’s up to us to decide for ourselves who Jesus is to us.
I can apply this to my life by praying more. and more. and more.
I can apply this to my life by rejecting satin and following Jesus. Even if you have to make a big change in your life.
This gospel gives me a sense of preparation . The entire world is preparing for the coming of the savior that they have been waiting for.
This proves that Jesus was so incredible that people did not know what to think of him
We need to slow down in our life and look at the little things. Jesus wants to have a good relationship, we just have to let him into our lives and listen to him. Then we will be happy.
Herod wanted to see Jesus he wanted to know about him he did not just believe the rumors. He wanted to give him a chance. He could have just sent guards to capture Jesus but he wanted to be with him and spend time with him and get to know him instead of just “praying/ just saying words” we need to want to get to know Jesus and talk to him.
We should not go against God because he has done everything for us. We should pray and go to mass more often. God will give up everything for us so we should be able to thank and praise him.
Jesus’ identity to me is my friend and my savior. He has really shown me what true love looks like. He shows great love and loyalty. He is an obedient man. He is the son of God and is a great example of true love, friendship, and obedience. He is a great leader and I admire how he puts his life down for us and is obediant to death. Jesus’ identity to me is a great leader and a great friend.
What I learned from today’s scripture is that like Herod, trying to find out who Jesus is, we’re searching for ourselves. Our identity. But, we only find our identity through Jesus Christ; talking to him, asking him what our purpose is. So, what I need to do is spend more time with Jesus. In adoration and prayer.
Many of us are just asking God things and sinning because we know he will forgive us. We should seek a relationship with him because that’s the most important thing. It’s relationship over religion and Jesus just wants to get to know you and love you. He is the way to happiness and nothing in this world will give you true happiness other than God so we should try and work on building that relationship with Christ.
Herod and the people in the Gospel, didn’t know who Jesus was. We must also figure out who He is by getting to know Him, and talking to Him, and encountering Him in the scriptures. The people in the Gospel were thinking that Jesus was John the Baptist, Elijah, or an ancient prophet, we must find out for ourselves who He really is.
What I took away from this is that we need to stop think oh we can do this because we can just go to confession or that oh I asked God for this so I should get it, no we need to listen to God and need to stop doing stuff were not supposed to. That is what I feel like this gospel is telling me/ I took away.
Today’s gospel reminded me to keep learning about Jesus and our faith. I need to remember what I already know about Jesus and keep trying to learn about the man who wants to have an eternal and strong relationship with me. One thing that I already know about Jesus is that he always answers my prayers, even if its not the way that i intended him to. But I shouldn’t be upset about that, I need to keep reminding myself to want what God wants and not what I want, because God knows everything, and I am just a finite human in need of his mercy.
I think the scripture is telling me to look where Jesus is in my life. People around Herod were talking about how John was raised from the dead or that Elijah had appeared. Herod kept trying to see who he is hearing about. I think that in our daily lives we constantly hear about miracles and apparitions but we never have experienced them first hand, so we don’t believe they truly happen. We need to focus hard on trying to see where Jesus is in our lives and be grateful that he is with us
There’s this voice passing everybody, and it’s whispering in their ear. When I went to sit down, and I read it- the gospel, I was marveled by it. I was marveled at the simplicity. It was short. I had my eyes spinning on the page. They were over every line, every word in there. Jesus is standing up here. It’s in our gospel. Every word of him is spreading.
We must seek and recognize that Jesus is truly God’s son. We must seek for Jesus in our hearts.
Jesus wants us to have the best life possible. When I hear that John was beheaded and then raised from the dead, I thought of confession. We have sinned, ans so in a sense, we were beheaded by sin, but after we go to confession and get resolved of our sins, Jesus is raising us from the death of sin and into the light of Heaven.
I learned that God takes many forms and He will always be waiting and trying to get to us. He is trying to save us from sin and He loves us unconditionally.
I can reflect on this scripture because Jesus can do anything, no matter what others say. If people say good or bad stuff about something you believe in, it doesn’t matter because anything can be done by Jesus, even resurrecting the dead
What I can learn from this is that God can be confusing at times. this is why it is important for us to understand what we believe in.
We all need to spend more time with Jesus in prayer. We need to talk to him and grow closer. God wants to give us true happiness. Happiness that will last an eternity.
What I learned about scripture today is that we need to start believing in god and trust him. We need to dedicate ourselves to God and pray so we can understand what he is trying to tell us through prayer.
We need to examine where Jesus is in our lives. We need to know if we are just using him to get what we want or if we are getting to know him and listening to him. The gospel is Jesus’ word spreading around the world. If we want to get to know him we have to read and listen to what he has to say. We should be grateful for Jesus’ presence in our lives and we need to try to grow our faith in him.
I can apply this to my life by applying myself to God and all that he has done for me. I will show him how much I love him and how I am so thankful for everything that he has done for me. He gave his life up for me to be happy and know him. I will learn to get to know him more and grow closer and closer each day to him.
the gospel today is asking us who we thinking Jesus is so we can let him into our hearts, and know him as a friend.
In this, Herod represents us. We look for Jesus. We should strive to be closer to him, to understand him.
What this Gospel is saying to me is that Jesus is truly real. He is getting me ready for life and what we have to hold for ourselves and the way we need to do things in life. Jesus miracles are truly real he raised people from the dead today as Herod is saying. Jesus truly loves us so we need to truly love him and talk to him daily in the scriptures and just in prayer to become closer to him. He loves us and we need to love him.
I can apply this to my life by knowing that I should look and search for Jesus myself, instead of having others bring the news to me. To me, Jesus is one of my closest friends who knows everything about me. I want to build a deeper relationship with Him, but in order to do that, I must search for Him.
Today I will go and sacrifice an hour of my time to sit with Jesus and talk. Evade temptation, and fast, God is here to help me, not hurt me. I need to embrace his inner love and let him in.
i can apply this to my life by praying every day and getting closer to God and reading the Gospel.
I can apply this gospel to my life by talking and listening to God through prayer. I also learned that we cant just depend on God by praying one prayer, we need to pray several of times and actually mean it.
In today’s gospel, people are confused. They do not have any explanation to who or what this man (aka Jesus) is. If they had opened their hearts and their minds to Him maybe they wouldn’t be confused on who this man was. I think Jesus is trying to tell us that the only way to truly know Him is to fully and completely except Him into our lives and make Him a norm.
I can apply this to my life by, always praying and trusting God whether he answers my prayers right away or not, but he is always listening to what we tell him. And when he calling for us we must answer, and not ignore him
I think its telling me to learn more about our faith and Jesus. it also tells me to look at jesus in my life right now, if i actually know him.
I think that we don’t need to see everything to beleive that it is true. If jhon was raised from dead he was raised from the dead becouse he was best friends with jesus. Im not saying that just becouse you think you have a good relationship with christ you will rise from dead. I am saying we need to beive in him and worship him so that if we are sick or hurt we can ask him to help us heal.
Everyone has a different relationship with God. To make it better we should pray everyday and ask the Holy Spirit for guidance.
In today’s scripture Jesus is telling us to look for him the way Herod did.
I can apply this to my life by not relying on confession, but by relying on myself to do good. I won’t take God for granted and I will talk to him daily and get close to him and ask for guidance.
I can apply this to my daily life by really believing that Jesus is Gods son. We need to grow closer to Jesus so we can one day be with him. He wants us to be with he but we have to earn it through sacrifice, pray, and suffering.
In this scripture Herod thought that there was no live after death and that once he killed john he would stay dead but he heard that he had risen from the dead and Herod tried to see Jesus and that is what we are called to do to seek Jesus ourselves
In the gospel today They are saying that John whom Herod has beheaded was alive and others were saying that Elisha was here.Little do they know that it was Jesus who did that. The people in this gospel are thinking spiritual they are thinking that he was going to save them from their harsh ruler.Which is why they are confused on who is doing all this stuff and raising people from the dead.
the gospel today reminds me that a lot of the things in the bible will not make sense, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to know what a sentence means. God loves us and wants us to know the truth, but he WILL say it in different sayings
In this scripture Herod thought that there was no live after death and that once he killed john he would stay dead but he heard that he had risen from the dead and Herod tried to see Jesus and that is what we are called to do to seek Jesus ourselves.
I can reflect on the scripture by realizing that God knows all and I need to be more open and talk to him in adoration and confession.
God is not a slot machine. Yes we can ask him for things but we may not get them instead ask for something he will always give us, His grace and love and friendship. He is among our greatest friend we yust need to spend time praying with him and taling with him. Mary as well. If we can learn to do this we will have a much happier life.
Herod tries to find Jesus without praying and talking to him, we need to not be like Herod and we need to pray and try to talk to Jesus.
What this gospel says to me is that God is truly alive and truly divine. I need to be able to seek out Jesus through my sin, but as a human and as a sinner, I just can’t fully grasp him or the emmense love he feels for me, and for everyone else.
The gospel is telling me to get closer to God. To build a relationship with, that’s the most important thing to build and grow closer to God. He wants us to do good and strive in life. We need to dedicate ourselves to prayer.
Herod is us basically we, like Herod, don’t see Jesus we see other people, other things but if we just opened our hearts and our minds we would see Him perfectly.
In this reading I felt like it was exposing me for taking advantage of the gifts that Jesus gives us. Which is true. Whenever someone tells us something or is giving us a lecture, are we really listening? Is our full attention there? Or are we just letting it in one ear and out the other? When we go to receive these gifts of adoration and confession are we really fully there with God? Are we letting the Holy Spirit come over us? We need to understand that when we enter into these holy places we should be ready to open our hearts to god. We should be willing to spend the full time with God under his name.
never sin knowing you will be forgiven, first that’s a sin in its self. But, that’s like doing something wrong just to do something right, that dosn’t make the first act fine. it was still a wrong action.
I feel that in this gospel it is showing us that we are Herod. we are perplexed and do not understand what is happening, us humans can not comprehend that there is more to life than humanly desires and god is doing marvelous things.
In today Gospel, Jesus is trying to tell us that we are all like Herod trying to find our true identities. To find our true identities we must spend time in adoration and in prayer talking and listening to God.
Should too be looking for the man who is risen the died.
In today’s gospel we hear about Herod. He was a confused man who didn’t know Christ. I can apply this scripture passage to my life my truly seeking Christ; the Christ who dies and rises from the dead everyday for me. I can seek him in the Word, and in the other people.
You know what when i was staying home alone with my brother i got to a really bad place and i did nothing my parents would ask me whats wrong i would tell them i was lonely and i felt alone like no one wanted me but at that moment God sent me my best friend again and my cousin God didn’t want me to be sad he sent me those people as a way to say hey you need to get your but up and feel happy again and you know what i did i am now living my best life happy and joyful with the people i love so i need to say Thank you God and Jesus.
This scripture is talking about preparation. The people are starting to understand who God truly is. He is our savior. Every time we go to mass we need to prepare our selves to see Jesus and eat his flesh. He is truly there, always.
Herod wanted to know Jesus. We can know Jesus through prayer and the BIble. To get to know Jesus we need to pray to him and learn about him through the scriptures
heriod is like us we don’t see the lord jesus but we still see other people
i can aply this to my life by looking for Jesus because sometimes i can not see him when i want to so i just have to look for Jesus
I think we are the Herod in the story, trying to truly believe who Jesus is. We see and learn more about and hear about him helps our faith keep growing and It is up to us to see if we will be like Herod or be a follower and have 100% faith in Christ.
I can use this in my life by reading the gospel more often and try to be closer to god. When I sin I should confess it.
Jesus has revealed Himself through Eucharist, miracles, and saints just like he revealed Himself to Harod my raising John from the dead. Harod was questioning “Who is God?” He wanted to know more. As we go through our lives we learn more and more about God and His plan for us.
in today’s gospel it teaches me gospel it teaches me to keep learning about our faith to keep moving forward to not give up not not stop trying at something we want to do it;s teaching me to never give up even if i’m mad or sad to always move forward and never give up and ti learn more about Jesus and our faith.
I think it means that even if someone is dead you can still see them. That is why Jesus is appearing to us because he wants us to have true happiness
What I was able to take away in today’s Gospel is that we need to know who Jesus really is, and we need to try and listen to when God is calling us. I think we can learn something from this, and we are like Herod and don’t truly understand Christ and we should strive to recognize him and learn to love him. We should try to develop a relationship with Christ by talking to him through prayer, and in adoration.
I can apply this to my life by praying more and reading the Bible more. I can get closer to God by this. Also talk to God more because he knows all.
Jesus is fully in the Eucharist and He died to make it possible for us to go to heaven. You worship what is worth the most to you. Make Jesus of the most worth to you! He died FOR US!!!!
Today’s gospel reminded me that we can’t expect Jesus to do 100% for us, and we just sit back and let him do the work. WE also have to take some part in it, and PUT effort. Sometimes we expect God to do everything, and to get it to us so easily.
Also during adoration, we should all of our heart and soul into it and listen to Jesus talk to us as best we can.
I can apply this scripture in my life by bringing God into my life more. I can bring God into my life more by praying more often and listening to him.
What I was able to take away in today’s Gospel is that we need to know who Jesus really is, and we need to try and listen to when God is calling us. I think we can learn something from this, and we are like Herod and don’t truly understand Christ and we should strive to recognize Him and learn to love Him. We should try to develop a relationship with Christ by talking to Him through prayer, and in adoration when we know that God is truly present.
I think that I can apply this to my life by finding Jesus in all of the small ways that he comes into our lives. If I can find him in the little ways then I can find him in everything. It is very hard to find him even in the Eucharist sometimes.
For me the Identity of Jesus can be found in the saints. Not necessarily the saints Identity, but there actions are like Jesus actions. Today I will try and be like St.Dominic and work hard at school.
I think Jesus is trying to tell us today that to hear what He is trying to tell you or make of you in your life, you have to open your heart to him at Mass. I think that if I really focus on what is happening at the Mass, I will hear what God is trying to tell me. The only way to build a better relationship with God is too listen to Him in prayer and at Mass.
This scripture is telling me that we have to find Jesus and understand instead of being confused and trying to find what we are looking for.
Jesus is asking me an important question in today’s gospel. He is asking me to tell him who I think He is. It may not seem that important, He’s God right? That’s who He is. What more does He want from that question? Jesus asks me this question more directly in the Gospel of Matthew 16:13-16. If He mentions this twice in the Bible, it must mean more. “Who do you say I am”, He asks, what does He mean to you? Is He like the father you felt like you never had? Is He like your brother? You’re best friend? To me Jesus is a friend. Someone who is with me through thick and thin through the times I don’t even want him there. He’s more than our friend too, He’s our heart and soul He is within us everytime we recieve the Eucharist. He is breathing the life of the Spirit into us each time we place Him on our tongue. So, I ask you, who is Jesus to you?
“who is jesus to us ” this question realy got me thinking because some people say heas out savyor but who is he really. i use to hear that he wasent that nice but then i heard hes the great the one and holy jesus crist so who is he realy heas not mean but heas not nice,
he is our fater that we just dont know and need to know better but we cant just ask him thats why we read about him this is why people loos hope this is why people ignor him. where all moody teens meaning we all have stages but our father will alwis be with us.
I can start bringing God into my life more by praying to him more.
I can use this in my life because if God truly wanted us to be happy He would want us to learn about what Jesus did for us.
Jesus today tells us and me that he is the one God. We can’t just say that we believe in him because that’s what are parents tell us to believe, NO we have to strongly believe in Him and knowing that he is the one true God.
This gospel reminded me that God is not someone i can just turn to when i sin and then leave him. God is someone that will accept me no matter what i have done and will love me no matter what
I can apply this to my life by praying more and reading scripture more to grow in my faith with God.
I think that it means to put all of your trust into God, and that He is there and is always listening, even in the hardest of times. He especially listens when you think He isn’t. We can also become closer to Him through prayer.
I thought about a phrase that really stuck out to me personally. It was,”when we spend time with Jesus in adoration do we truly listen to what he says,” or do we get distracted and wonder off to our imagination. I think this meant to really try to focus and inhale the word of God instead of listening to it and then returning to our normal daily routine/lives.
Do we let Him exist in our lives? Or do we treat him like and abandoned alley way? Do we let him in our lives? Or do we just leave him?
Good job Catherine! I really liked those questions you asked!
The scripture is showing us that people were confused at how he was resurrected just like we are confused at the mysteries at the mass and the mysteries about God and Jesus that we still don’t understand and how the people and Herod were confused about who he is and how he is alive.
what I took for this gospel is that we need to believe in god and start learning prayers and learn about God.
I can apply this to my life by knowing that Jesus loves me no matter what I do. I can also try to bring Jesus into my life.
I can apply this gospel to my life by praying more and just to really listen to God. I also need to make sure that I shouldn’t just sin, because i can’t expect God to do 100% of the work, I have to do some, too when I sin, like go to confession more, pray more and read the Bible more.
Its telling me that we need to be looking for Jesus even if we do not understand.
The scripture is showing us that people were confused at how he was resurrected just like we are confused at the mysteries at the mass and the mysteries about God and Jesus that we still don’t understand and how the people and Herod were confused about who he is and how he is alive and how he is with us.
The scrpture today is about people talking about jesus and how herod can’t see him but other people can see him.
The scripture is telling me that I need to act more like Christ, by trying to find out what God is trying to tell me in the small things. Once I find God in the small things that God is trying to tell me I can put it together like a puzzle and see the big question God is trying to ask me.
The gospel today really asks the question, who is this person? Catholics already know the answer, our Savior of everyone, who died for our sins. Yes, but he is also a man of holiness, wisdom and kindness. We all see this in the mass, adoration, and when we pray. The identity of Jesus in known throughout the world, but do they KNOW Him? No, we don’t completely KNOW Him either. (His thoughts, desires, anything that describes a person.) Jesus is of a person but He IS Son of God too. We have to take this seriously because Jesus means for me everything. He is the reason I have everything. (Parents, friends, siblings, etc.) I’m so thankful for this! Thank the Lord, for He is good!
Jesus is saying to me that He has high expectations for us and when we don’t put our full effort into something we can easily do, He is disappointed because He knows that we can do better.
The Gospel reminds me that for God to make our lives better we need to help just the way how Mary could’ve said no and Jesus could’ve not done anything he did so he can take away the sins of the world and if we don’t help the devil can tempt us to do things that can separate our relationship with God.
Some parts of this comment were not supposed to be what it can sound like so I forgot some periods.
Today Jesus is calling us to the gospel. He is calling us to be like Herod and to keep on trying to see God
Trust in God and reject Satan, then live life to its true potential.
This passage speaks to me because Herod is searching for Jesus, just like we do in everyday life, he is also trying to find out who he is and this is important to me because I need to find Christ in my own life.
I can apply this scripture to my life by trying to get to know Jesus better through praying, and reading the scripture. we are called to know Jesus, so we, I included, need to pray more to get closer to God.
This gospel is saying like we shouldn’t sin because its not good for us. Jesus wants us to be happy and live our best life and be true about everything .
The gospel is telling me today that we always want to believe, but for us to believe we have to see it.We need to learn to believe without seeing, if someone told you that something crazy happens most people would say that they need to see it.Believe,no matter if we haven’t seen it yet.
I believe that from this text that Herod, thought that there was no after life. And from what they were saying he was happy and a little bit scared because he thought that John would not comeback but was scared that he was wrong ].
i learned that we need to spend more time with jesus he is ou life and not spending time with him hurts him aot jesus wants a friendship with us all and we turn him away witch is wrong we have got this thing wrong to just go to mass because you are cathoic you want you want a friendship with jesus
I can apply this in my life by praying, talking to him more often, and reading The Bible. Jesus is looking for us and we are looking for Him.
Jesus is asking me who I think he is. I believe that he is our savior. This is also about who other people think he is. Like we should be telling the world that Jesus is our savior. We should always be looking for Jesus even if we do not understand. It said Herod is confused just as we are confused at the mysteries of God. But, regardless, we should always know who he is and be looking for Him.
If we try to know Jesus, and we believe in Him, then we will have happiness in our lives and eventually go to Heaven, where we can be with Him forever.
This scripture is telling me that i need to get closer to Jesus and need to talk to him more.He loves me no matter what i do.He is truly our savior,He has done so many things for us,We need to be more like him.
The gospel taught me today that God will always have a plan for us and that we can’t give up. And that He is truly present in the Eucharist. God is not a slot machine that will just grant our wishes, we have to devote ourselves to him and let him guide us.
I learned in this scripture to always follow god no matter what happens
To believe in our God to pray to him more often. Because no matter what we do God will always be there.
I can reflect on what Jesus means to me, or how I think of Jesus. I know that adoration can be one of those things that you say you do, but when your actually doing it, you don’t know what to do or say. We should all try to find Jesus in adoration and tell Him what He means to us. Jesus is a person too.
I can Apply this to my life my working my hardest to seek god, by praying more prayers, listening to him try to reach out to me in spare time and I could forgive others and have god forgive me in confessions. We can also all get closer to god by helping others and just being as nice as you can be to everyone around you. Like the Golden rule ,if you treat them like real friends they’ll treat you back like their friends with you.
God has always had a plan for us. Its up to us to listen to him. We need to truly pray and not just do it out of habit. (or as Mr. G says “Don’t go to mass or pray because your parents want you to, or because you grew up a Catholic. Go because its what you believe and you look forward to receiving Jesus.”) We need to live every day like its our last. Give our fullest to every day and count our blessings. You don’t want to wake up one day wondering why you spent the last 5 years on your couch watching TV. Instead turn that time to God. This may be your last day. So don’t hold back. Run fully into Jesus’ arms and do his bidding.
“God loves each of us as if there were only one of us.” -Saint Augustine
Praise Jesus, Claire! This is inspiring, inspired by the Holy Spirit within you!
In today’s gospel we are King Herod questioning Jesus in our lives. We need to not doubt Jesus and his teachings and Trust in him.
The way that the people assume of what Jesus is shows that they don’t think he is who he really is. They think he is some great prophet that is to bring forth the Messiah, but he is the Messiah. They did not think of him as the Messiah, all because they did not have faith in the Messiah.
People are talking bad about others.
we must find that jesus is the son of god and we must relivzed that he died to help our sin
Who was the mean that Herod was looking for? It was Jesus! I can relate to this scripture by looking for Jesus in the little and the big things in life.
