In the readings and Gospel today, God reveals His saving plan to us through the power of the Holy Spirit and the trusting response of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Second Eve. In this Advent season, if our will continues to be our own we have not prayed, gone to Mass and confession to receive God’s grace which opens our minds and hearts to His grace, or changed/fasted from a behavior that hurts our relationship with Christ. Today is a great day to start turning your will over to God and following His. God’s generosity cannot be outdone. If you allow Him to work in your life, you will seek what you have been looking for, peace, joy, and love.
Let us begin the revealing of God’s plan in the book of Samuel in the Old Testament. David wants to build a better place for God in the Ark of the Covenant, but God responds that He will set up a solid foundation for His chosen people through David. God is speaking about His only Son to come into the world and set His people free for all times and all places for eternity.
“And coming to her, he said,
Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord.
May it be done to me according to your word.”
‘Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you.’
“Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son,
and you shall name him Jesus.
He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High,
and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father,
and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever,
and of his kingdom there will be no end.”
“The Holy Spirit will come upon you,
and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.
Therefore the child to be born
will be called holy, the Son of God.”
Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord.
May it be done to me according to your word.” Lk 1:26-38
