Today, the Angel Gabriel comes to Zechariah.  Gabriel says, ““Do not be afraid, Zechariah,
because your prayer has been heard.”  The angel then foretells who Zechariah’s son will be-John the Baptist.  Gabriel foretells that John will have his original sin taken away in Elizabeth’s womb.  He says, “He will be filled with the Holy Spirit even from his mother’s womb, and he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God.”  Next, Zechariah is filled with fear and disbelief (as we all would) and Gabriel reveals himself.  ”I am Gabriel, who stand before God.  I was sent to speak to you and to announce to you this good news.  But now you will be speechless and unable to talk until the day these things take place, because you did not believe my words,  which will be fulfilled at their proper time.”  Lk1:5-25

There are so many amazing words being spoken that we can use to prepare ourselves for the Lord’s coming.  ”Be not afraid”, “your prayer has been heard”, “He will be filled with the Holy Spirit”, “I am Gabriel, who stand before God.”  St. John Paul II first words from the balcony after being named pope were, “Be not afraid”.  We must trust in God, love, and do good without fear.  Pray without ceasing because as the angel Gabriel says, “your prayer has been heard”.  We are all “filled with the Holy Spirit” because Jesus died and resurrected and we are all adopted sons and daughters of God through Baptism.  And, if you did not believe in angels there is one revealed to you today, “I am Gabriel, who stand before God.”  Angels are mentioned over 300 times in the Bible.  Prepare yourselves for the coming of the Lord, his time is drawing near.  You have all you need to become a saint, do not be afraid and stay bold in the eyes of God!
