Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary.

On a certain sabbath Jesus went into the synagogue and taught,
and there was a man there whose right hand was withered.
The scribes and the Pharisees watched him closely
to see if he would cure on the sabbath
so that they might discover a reason to accuse him.
But he realized their intentions
and said to the man with the withered hand,
“Come up and stand before us.”
And he rose and stood there.
Then Jesus said to them,
“I ask you, is it lawful to do good on the sabbath
rather than to do evil,
to save life rather than to destroy it?”
Looking around at them all, he then said to him,
“Stretch out your hand.”
He did so and his hand was restored.
But they became enraged
and discussed together what they might do to Jesus. Lk 6:6-11

Today, Jesus teaches us that doing a work of mercy is acceptable any time.  The scribes and Pharisees worried too much about the letter of the law instead of the heart of the matter.  They had grown cold.  We too grow cold with God sometimes and wonder why life is so hard or why we have a withered hand.  Why is it so difficult to be a follower of Christ?  Why is it so difficult to fight sin?  Why does God allow us to suffer?  Remember, Jesus knows all about suffering.  He was God, became Man, and suffered a horrific death so we could be saved.  How many people forget this.  He gave all for you and me!  Our suffering is worth something if offered up for the salvation of souls and to receive grace to become holy.  Every day Jesus asks us to, “reach out your hand” so that His suffering has purpose.  We must bring our suffering to Him and most importantly do works of mercy towards others to relieve their suffering.

Today’s challenge: Offer up your suffering with Christ’s suffering.  Forget about your suffering and help someone in your family, school, workplace, community who is suffering much greater than you.

Be a servant, become a saint!
