“LORD, EVEN THE DOGS UNDER THE TABLE EAT THE CHILDREN’S SCRAPS.”

Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.

Jesus went to the district of Tyre.
He entered a house and wanted no one to know about it,
but he could not escape notice.
Soon a woman whose daughter had an unclean spirit heard about him.
She came and fell at his feet.
The woman was a Greek, a Syrophoenician by birth,
and she begged him to drive the demon out of her daughter.
He said to her, “Let the children be fed first.
For it is not right to take the food of the children
and throw it to the dogs.”
She replied and said to him,
“Lord, even the dogs under the table eat the children’s scraps.”
Then he said to her, “For saying this, you may go.
The demon has gone out of your daughter.”
When the woman went home, she found the child lying in bed
and the demon gone. MK 7:24-30

The Syrophoenician woman is a non-Jew and a foreigner. She is unclean according to Jewish law. She has not been raised in Jewish ways and does not understand or know about the story of God and His chosen people of Israel. This is why Jesus says, “Let the children be fed first (Jews).” She perseveres, “Lord, even the dogs under the table eat the children’s scraps.” She understands that she is not worthy but she believes Jesus has the power to heal her daughter whom she loves.

Faith consists of complete trust in God. It’s hard. In the most difficult times in your life, the worst addictions, the hardest sin, do you believe God has the power to help you through it? Do you believe Jesus is right there with you in that suffering, that temptation? If not, what do you put your faith in? What do you believe?

As we are about to embark on another 40 days in the desert, we will be fasting, praying, and giving alms. This is a great checkpoint to see how strong your faith is. What parts of your life or sin is leading you away from Christ? Is your faith lukewarm? Do you desire holiness? Ask Jesus to increase your faith this Lenten season!

Today’s challenge: Faith begins with hope. Pope Francis said that Christian hope is born in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is a belief that begins in your heart. When we realize we cannot do life on our own, we fall to our knees and ask God for help. We then start a journey of faith by seeking Jesus Christ and we sit and begin to learn about Him in the Scriptures. Once we have discovered the joy that Christ brings, we want to share it, which is love.
God, please increase in me faith, hope, and love.

Be a servant, be a saint today!

Jesus went to a house wanting to be unrecognized but because of his fame he was recognized very soon after entering. The lady that found him fell at his feet and asked for her daughter to be healed and he asked he a question to which she answered and he told her that her daughters deamon had been drove out.

“The woman was a Greek” I think we as christians tend to discriminate against people who don’t believe what we do, or live a different lifestyle than us. From what I have lived through in my live I have seen that this is what drives people away from the faith. Jesus today in scripture doesn’t discriminate against the women even though she is a Greek and doesn’t believe what he does, he helps her anyway. Be more like Jesus and don’t discriminate against others.

I think this is telling us that if we pray to God, trust in Him, and really mean what we pray, God can do great things for us, He did so leading the demon out of the woman’s child. He will always love and care for us, even when we don’t realize it, he is still there for us whenever we need him. So if we can pray to him and mean what we say he WILL do great things for us.

Often, we see Jesus arriving into a town, and then not wanting people to know that he is there. He will cast out demons, and then tell them not to tell anyone. I think if I was all powerful, I wouldn’t want people asking me for favors everywhere I went either. He doesn’t showcase his arrival, because he knows that those who have actual reason to find him will. That those who need to be cured will eventually find the truth, no matter what. Many people come to him, asking for things. He never turns down his children, if they have faith. This is what we need to learn from today’s gospel! Jesus is waiting for us to call upon him, to invoke his name. We can ask our father for anything, but we need to have faith!

I think God is trying to tell us that he loves everyone no matter what. he says even the dogs can eat the scraps, saying that no matter what you are he still loves you.

What stuck out to me was that Jesus while not wanting to be noticed helped this woman. God will help us he will go out of his way for us because he loves and cares for us.

I believe that god can forgive sins, drive out demons, and even save the world.
All it takes is faith, hope, and love. like the woman asking Jesus to heal her daughter even though
she was not in the catholic faith/ Jewish faith, Jesus healed her daughter anyway.
Jesus can heal or help anyone you just have to have faith, hope, and love.

I think that the scripture is trying to tell me is that when the lady comes to Jesus and says that her daughter has a demon inside of her and that the dogs eat the scraps from her and with that faith in Jesus he heals her daughter and she will be remembered in the kingdom of God. I also just think it’s so cool how people come to Jesus and beg him because they know they need him and that he is our savior.

Jesus is wanting to help us and we need to come to him and listen to him of what he wants us to do. We need to pray that we can know what Jesus is trying to tell us. We need to pray to him everyday.

The Gentile (non-Jew) asked for her daughter to be rid of an unclean spirit. Jesus said that he was ” going to let the children first instead of feeding the dogs with the children’s food”. The woman realized what this meant so she humbled herself and said ” even the dogs eat at the children’s scraps. She humbled herself in the sight of the Lord and her Daughter was healed. This shows that even though Jesus was Jewish he came to save the gentiles as well. Jesus makes this clear by coming through Paul and preaching to everyone that will listen.

Helping someone we don’t know is a beautiful thing. God went out of his way for many people, whether they were foreigners or not. He saw everyone as equal, which is the same way we should see our neighbors. Since God is love we can follow Him to love others.

we have to have faith that God alone can help us. God can do all things we just have to put our faith in him. Faith is a hard thing to do. To have faith in God we first need to learn to trust him. Trust him with the small things then with the bigger things till you trust him with everything in your life and your faith grows into something apart of your everyday life.
