I WILL GIVE YOU THE KEYS TO THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN. WHATEVER YOU BIND ON EARTH SHALL BE BOUND IN HEAVEN; AND WHATEVER YOU LOOSE ON EARTH SHALL BE LOOSED IN HEAVEN.” MT 16:13-19
Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.
The revealed teachings of Jesus (who is God) vs. Human Opinion
I know which one I am going to pick. Many people inside and outside the Catholic Church misunderstand papal infallibility. This is what Catholic Answers.com found from early Church Father’s writings, Vatican Council II, Scripture, and the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
“Infallibility is not the absence of sin. Nor is it a charism that belongs only to the pope. Indeed, infallibility also belongs to the body of bishops as a whole, when, in doctrinal unity with the pope, they solemnly teach a doctrine as true. We have this from Jesus himself, who promised the apostles and their successors the bishops, the magisterium of the Church: “He who hears you hears me” (Luke 10:16), and “Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven” (Matt. 18:18).
Vatican II explained the doctrine of infallibility as follows: “Although the individual bishops do not enjoy the prerogative of infallibility, they can nevertheless proclaim Christ’s doctrine infallibly. This is so, even when they are dispersed around the world, provided that while maintaining the bond of unity among themselves and with Peter’s successor, and while teaching authentically on a matter of faith or morals, they concur in a single viewpoint as the one which must be held conclusively.
This authority is even more clearly verified when, gathered together in an ecumenical council, they are teachers and judges of faith and morals for the universal Church. Their definitions must then be adhered to with the submission of faith” (Lumen Gentium 25).
Christ instructed the Church to preach everything he taught (Matt. 28:19–20) and promised the protection of the Holy Spirit to “guide you into all the truth” (John 16:13). That mandate and that promise guarantee the Church will never fall away from his teachings (Matt. 16:18, 1 Tim. 3:15), even if individual Catholics might.
As Christians began to more clearly understand the teaching authority of the Church and of the primacy of the pope, they developed a clearer understanding of the pope’s infallibility. This development of the faithful’s understanding has its clear beginnings in the early Church. For example, Cyprian of Carthage, writing about 256, put the question this way, “Would the heretics dare to come to the very seat of Peter whence apostolic faith is derived and whither no errors can come?” (Letters 59 [55], 14).
In the fifth century, Augustine succinctly captured the ancient attitude when he remarked, “Rome has spoken; the case is concluded” (Sermons 131, 10).
An infallible pronouncement—whether made by the pope alone or by an ecumenical council—usually is made only when some doctrine has been called into question. Most doctrines have never been doubted by the large majority of Catholics.
Pick up a catechism and look at the great number of doctrines, most of which have never been formally defined. But many points have been defined, and not just by the pope alone. There are, in fact, many major topics on which it would be impossible for a pope to make an infallible definition without duplicating one or more infallible pronouncements from ecumenical councils or the ordinary magisterium (teaching authority) of the Church.”

The Catholic Church began with the blood and water that flowed from Jesus’s side and was established through Peter, the Apostles, and Mary. It is guided by the Holy Spirit and has always remained true to the teachings of Jesus Christ. All through it’s history their have been good popes and bad popes, but the Holy Spirit has guided the Church and many Catholics have fought to defend the doctrines founded by Jesus Christ.
There have been false teachings or heresies inside the Church and outside the Church. The Holy Spirit has guided the pope and bishops at many different councils including Peter, Paul, and the apostles at the first Church Council, the Council of Jerusalem.
Truth cannot contradict itself (St. Thomas Aquinas) and Jesus Christ said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” Jesus set up a Church with a leader and bishops to lead the flock guided by His Holy Spirit because He knew His teachings would constantly be under attack. The Devil, our fallen human nature, and the culture of the world (human opinion) will attack Truth (absolute Truth-what is-reality-God). So, human opinion or divinely revealed Truth, you get to choose, choose wisely!
Today’s challenge: Pray for our popes, bishops, priests, and seminarians. Do not bad mouth priests because they are poor homilists. Priests do a lot more for our soul then speak a homily. Pray for our pope, bishops and priests to be held accountable when abuses happen in the Church.
Be a servant, be a saint today!
#Christian YOLO
“bind on earth shall be bound in heaven” I think sometimes we get caught up in our own thoughts, like, “why should i do this?” or “what is this even for?”. It’s to get to heaven! We do all this stuff, not only to help others, but to get to heaven and become a saint.
Todays scripture is like God telling you to tend to his flock or the people of the church while he’s gone its telling us to take care of everyone not because we are being forced to but because we wan’t to by taking care of the lowley on Earth you shall be exalted in heaven.
Today Jesus shows us that He is God. Jesus tries to show us that He has all that we need if we follow him. Jesus should be the center of our life and we should love and follow Him in what He does. He is the way. When we pick up our cross and follow Him we can truly get to know God and others.
Jesus is the real son of God and he is our God. He’s not a prophet, or a good preacher. He came to the earth and died for his sins.
A part that stuck out to me was
“And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it.”
I think God’s trying to tell us we can rely on him and He will always be there for us. Build our life around him and we will succeed because if we make God the center of our life we will be a lot happier and more successful than if we try to rely on material things.
“But who do you say that I am?” This stuck out to me because Jesus was asking Peter but He was also asking us who we think He is. We may just want so say “You are God.” or “You are Jesus.” because that is what we were taught. We should want to get to know Him and make a name for Him that is personal to us, not just the simple answer. We would have to take time out of our day to pray to Him and tell Him about our day. We should want to get to know Him more not be forced to. God doesn’t want you to forcefully talk to Him, He wants you to WANT to talk to Him.
“But who do you say that I am?”
Simon Peter said in reply,
“You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
Jesus said to him in reply, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah.
For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father.
I know that this is a lot to copy and paste but I really like this part and I wanted to talk about it. We are Peter we know who Jesus is and we know that He is the son of God because his Father Told us that he is we didn’t find this out from being here we know It.
Today’s scripture was about our popes, priests, and Bishops I would say. My favorite part of scripture was “He who hears you hears me”, it shows you more meaning the more you look into it deeply.
Jesus calls Peter and makes him the rock of the Church (the first Pope). Peter passed down all the way to Pope Francis today. We realize that the Pope’s teachings are true and that through the bishops as well. Their teachings about the Doctrine are true through the infallibility passed down through Peter and through all the Popes. Jesus is speaking to us through our priest who goes to the bishop who leads to the Pope who goes back to Peter and follows Jesus.
2/22/24 This uneducated fisherman, who was proven so scared when Jesus was arrested, is rewarded with a new name, suggested by the great solid rock above them; and with a new role, leading the people of God. His strength is not himself, but in the power of God.
“Whatever you bind on Earth shall be bound in Heaven, and whatever you loose on Earth shall be loosed in Heaven.” I think it is important to know that he does not mean Earthly treasures, or physical goods. If we learn more about God, we extend our capacity to love him. My brother recently explained this to me in a very nice way. He put two cups in front of me, and he said that in Heaven, we would be completely full. Now, if we are completely full, we are entirely happy. However, one cup was bigger, and that means that that person would have a greater capacity for love. They are still both full, but one just has more. That is what we need to keep in mind. God is infinite, so if we keep learning about him, we will never get bored. If we devote our minds and lives to God, he can come into our hearts and reveal more things to us.
In Heaven God will provide everything that is necessary just as he does right now, if we give God our trust then we will have all we need to survive and live a happy life when we got to heaven we don’t bring anything with us but our souls so we need to put everything else aside and work on our selves and become the best you can be and you will have all you need for eternity.
“He who hears you hears me” (Luke 10:16), and “Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven” (Matt. 18:18).
I feel like this bible verse is telling us that God knows us. He knows us better than we even know ourselves. He is good but we just push him away, even when we do He is still there, he’s not going anywhere but it’s important to remember he’s not leaving us. He is always there even when it doesn’t feel like it. We just need to believe in Him and STOP pushing him away.
the first thing I did when I woke up today was I looked up and said than u God for another day. If u woke up today God isnt done with you. God has great things ahead and where ever you end up in life God wanted you there, to find a purpose. He had you in his mind before the Universe was created, God is real an din us all. The scripture is saying Jesus is the way the truth and the life, I tend to forget that we are Fishers of Jesus, followers of christ. Popes, preist and seminiaries are our teachers, teachers about God so lets pray for them.
In today’s Scripture, God is trying to tell us that he wants us to not be afraid to spread the Gospel, and he wants us to take care if everyone, not because the Lord is forcing us. “bind on earth shall be bound in heaven” He doesn’t want us to get caught up in our thoughts and that he wants to Get to Heaven by spreading the word of God, The Gospel.
Jesus is telling us we need to be prepared for when we go and get the chance to meet God in his kingdom (heaven). If you woke up today God has a purpose for you.
Something that I got from this was that us Christians need to be a model, or example to everyone. We have no room to judge others if we are not living the life that we are saying others should life, it says in the Bible, “Do not worry about the splinter in an others eye, but the plank in yours.” We need to listen to that because lots of us judge people that are going down the wrong path, or have gone down the wrong path, but are turning back, and since we judge these people so much they are scared to come to church, or are scared to go to a Bible study, since they are scared of being judged, and even made of due to the mistakes they made in the past.
The Lord is your leader, trust Him. He created you and this beautiful world so have Faith the Lord. He is our shepherd and we are his sheep, he leads into Heaven we just need to follow Him. There is nothing I shall want but the grace of God.
“I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” That stuck out to me because when Jesus says that he is the way the truth and the life he is saying that he is our way to heaven. If we want eternal life we need Jesus to be our way and not let the devil misguide us. Jesus has each and every one of us on the earth for a reason. It could be to become a priest or a nun or a celebrity but either way he wants us to go to heaven with him.
God has a very important purpose for everyone. He knows everything about everyone even before we do.He knows what will happen and knows your future. The part that stuck out to me today is AND WHATEVER YOU LOOSE ON EARTH SHALL BE LOOSED IN HEAVEN.”This means to me that the things on earth are not important God is the only thing that is important.
“Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven” Jesus is telling us that the relationships that we secure on earth don’t just go away in heaven. In fact, that is one of the few things that stick with us when we go to heaven. We leave behind all our earthly possessions and wordly desires when we leave earth. Knowing this we should feel more detatched to our wordly things and issues.
What I think what God is trying to say is that each of us has a chance to get to heaven but what we will do with it is the question. Everything we do on earth will be multiplied in heaven so we need to really care what we do on earth.
I think God is telling us that heaven is peace. When we get to heaven everything will be perfect and we will be happy.
Today Jesus is telling me that He gave Peter the blessing of guiding the Church. There have been many good and bad popes. The popes, bishops, and priests are here to help us get to heaven. We cannot get to heaven without priests, they give us the sacraments. St. Peter was the first pope, popes are here to help guide the Church by the Holy Spirit. Therefore, we shall love and respect all religious.
This gospel is telling us to trust God. Since there are people who lie and try to lead you into the bad in life, if we pray to God and ask for help, he will help due to the amount of love he has for us. There have been false teachings in the church, but don’t listen to them. Ask God for strength, and he will help you understand that He is the truth and the life.
What I think what God is trying to say is that each of us has a chance to get to heaven but what we will do with it is the question. Everything we do on earth will be multiplied in heaven so we need to really care what we do on earth so life can be greater later on.
“bind on earth shall be bound in heaven” this stuck out to me because I fell sometimes we just think what we do to follow God and Jesus teachings is stupid but its not. We need to follow Jesus teaching to get to heaven. When we finally follow what he wants us to do we will go to heaven and be our happiest self.
For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father, is Jesus telling us that we need to follow not just what the world tells us but what God reveals to us and gives us. It is through this belief in Him that we are redeemed, and through this redemption we are saved.
In the Gospel today these words caught my eye “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”these words stuck out to me because this is the question that we ask ourselves everyday. Who is God? The Scripture today asks us that question and give us the answer to that question. The Answer is “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”.This is why The Bible is very helpful in daily life. We need to read the scripture every day because the Bible is the truth.
“Guide you into all the truth”. Sometimes we have to face what we did in order to be forgiven, because if you don’t then you would have guilt with you for the rest of your life and it will make it harder to get into heaven. It can be hard sometimes because it’s hard to accept the fact that we are not perfect or even close, we also deny and deny instead of facing the truth.
In the Gospel when Jesus tells Peter, “Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven,” I think that that means that whatever Peter forgives on Earth shall be forgiven in heaven and whatever he doesn’t forgive will not be forgiven in heaven. He tells Peter this because He asks them, “[W]ho do you say that I am?” and they say, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” They believed that Jesus was Christ while others did not. Others thought he was just a prophet or someone else but Peter knew that he was Christ.
“Infallibility is not the absence of sin. Nor is it a charism that belongs only to the pope.” This stuck out to me because it tells us that some people don’t understand the meaning of it. Some people don’t follow the pope, and some people even reject the pope. This is because they don’t know what infallibility really means.
The part that stuck out to me was when Jesus Christ said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” This stuck out to me because it is telling me that Jesus is the only way we can get to heaven. Often times we spend our time on our electronics instead of talking to Jesus. Our whole goal in life is to get to heaven and Jesus is the only way we can do that.
This sticks out to me a lot because it’s like the famous scripture. “You are peter and I will build my church upon you”. Those are just such powerful words God made Simon peter the first Bishop in the matter of 10 seconds and he was the first Bishop. He even gives him the gates to heaven knowing that his only son Christ is the only one that can open the gates of heaven. He also says that whatever you lose on earth will be lost in heaven. He is not talking about any physical thing but your sins and all the good things and every time you’ve had the Eucharist and every time you go to reconciliation. At the beginning Jesus asks Simon Peter who he is and Simon replies that he is their savior their Christ, the only son our Lord, and it was only Simon Peter that said anything.
“WHATEVER YOU BIND ON EARTH SHALL BE BOUND IN HEAVEN.” I think this is trying to say that whatever we do here on earth will catch up to us in heaven. God will see times we do stuff in the glory of God and times we do not. If we do good here on earth God will see that.
Today Jesus shows us that He is God. Jesus tries to show us that He has all that we need if we follow him. Jesus should be the center of our life and we should love and follow Him in what He does.
He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” I like this line because it really poses the question, who is Jesus to you? Is he just someone you have learned about over the years? Or is he someone you really know and love. When you look at the Eucharist at mass do you really know that little piece of bread is fully God and fully Man, Our Lord Jesus Christ? Because it’s one story to have the head knowledge but do you have the heart knowledge?
He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” I like this line because it really poses the question, who is Jesus to you? Is he just someone you have learned about over the years? Or is he someone you really know and love. When you look at the Eucharist at mass do you really know that that little piece of bread is fully God and fully Man, Our Lord Jesus Christ? Because it’s one story to have the head knowledge but do you have the heart knowledge?
“gathered together in an ecumenical council” we are together in Christ and will be forever
In Heaven God will provide everything that is necessary just as he does right now if we give God our trust then we will have all we need to survive and live a happy life when we got to heaven we don’t bring anything with us but our souls so we need to put everything else aside and work on our selves and become the best you can be and you will have all you need for eternity.
Today Jesus asks who do the people think the son of man they said people other than Jesus. Then Jesus asks peter and he says “Jesus you are the son of the living God.” Jesus then says that peter has the keys to heaven. This stuck out to me because God gave a normal man the keys to heaven showing that God loves us.
God is revealed to us through prayer and fasting. Not through earthly things. Jesus tells Peter that he was not revealed through flesh and blood but by God, the heavenly Father. Then he makes Simon Peter and that is super cool.
The saying “Infallibility is not the absence of sin. Nor is it a charism that belongs only to the pope. Indeed, infallibility also belongs to the body of bishops as a whole, when, in doctrinal unity with the pope, they solemnly teach a doctrine as true. We have this from Jesus himself, who promised the apostles and their successors the bishops, the magisterium of the Church: “ is good because it tells you how much the people have gone though. This also stuck out because this means a lot to me because It helps us understand God better. If you follow God you will be more like him and you will love him back that has loved you.
“Simon Peter said in reply, ‘You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.'” This part sticks out to me because of Simon’s great faith, and how he KNOWS that Jesus is the Messiah. Also that later in the gospel it says, “For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father.” Jesus didn’t reveal his true identity to Simon, but God Himself sent down the Holy Spirit to Simon and the apostles.
God is trying to tell us that we should pray to him because he has many great things planned for us. And when we pray we find time to spend with Jesus and God.
Jesus is the son of God. He has all that we need. Heaven is our goal in life. When we get to heaven we will have accomplished that goal.
Jesus instructed the church to teach his teachings. We are the church. The people who make it what it is! Preach to the people without Jesus. Because a life without Jesus is impossible to navigate.
Jesus wants us to humbly submit our will to God. Jesus should be the center of our lives and we should love him to the hour of our death. When we get to heaven everything that we did on earth will be times that. So we need to be careful about what we do now.
“AND WHATEVER YOU LOOSE ON EARTH SHALL BE LOOSED IN HEAVEN.” This stuck out to me because i feel like it’s saying that on earth we probably don’t pray as much as we should and we probably take God for granted. If we don’t see him on earth he will not see us in heaven. We need to make the choice now whether or not we wanna go to heaven.
“Whatever you bound on earth will not be bound to Heaven.” This is important because our wants and needs don’t really matter in the real world, sure some stuff is to take care of us to keep us healthy, but toys and others aren’t important. It’s like lent, we do this so that we can understand that we worship a false God. What we want is what we should be looking forward to Heaven, we want that eternal life and peace, no death, no sickness, only light. What does technology give us, no eternal life or anything that the promised land could give us. It’s worth Giving you life for God, because it is the one who loves you and cares for you. This stuff doesn’t do that. So whatever is keeping you away from God, please find a way to get away from it because it won’t get you to the promised land that our God, lord and savior has promised us.
I think Jesus is trying to tell me to just spread the word and trust in him. Many people have trouble believing in Jesus and believing that he is fully God and fully man. I think he knows many people are drifting away from him and we need more people to believe that he is always present and a way we can do that is spreading the gospel.
“The Catholic Church began with the blood and water that flowed from Jesus’s side and was established through Peter, the Apostles, and Mary.” This Sticks out to me because, The Catholic church, that is not just one church that is the whole community of the church. Think about it, Pete, the Apostles, and Mary, started the church with His blood and water. I think that Jesus is trying to tell us that we need to be like Mary and Peter and the Apostles, we need to let Him pass through us and we need to make him stay inside of us, not that he is ever going to leave. What I mean is that, no matter what He will be with us but the only way we can be like Mary and the Apostles is by trying to get closer to him, Spiritually and Physically.
“You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” this is what peter said Jesus and it sticks out to me because this people might say that this is true but the don’t follow Jesus they are to focused on how others see them and not how God sees them you might go to mass and receive communion on Sunday but that’s only half of what you need in order to get in to heaven the other half is really believing and praying on a daily basis
“For flesh and blood have not revealed this to you, but my heavenly father.” That sticks out to me because in mass, we do not see Jesus in human form, but in the form of bread and wine. We have to realize that the bread and wine is God. We have to see it as Jesus. We have to be able to recognize Jesus and not ignore him or mistake him like people in the gospel did today.
The saying “Infallibility is not the absence of sin. Nor is it a charism that belongs only to the pope. Indeed, infallibility also belongs to the body of bishops as a whole, when, in doctrinal unity with the pope, they solemnly teach a doctrine as true. We have this from Jesus himself, who promised the apostles and their successors the bishops, the magisterium of the Church: “ We need God so we can go to heaven with him.
Jesus is telling us that we need to be prepared for heaven and to see God. We have to start praying and getting used to praying now because we don’t know when our last day is going to be.
He who hears you hears me, and Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven. If God hears someone then he can hear you when you speak to him. God doesn’t pick who he wants to listen to. He listens to all that speak to Him in pray. That is why pray is so important. It is a way of communicating with God. It is just like talking to your dad but in a prayer form. I think this is good because if you feel like He only listens to one person. You are wrong because He listens to all who talk to Him.
Jesus is telling peter that try to catch as many fish/people as you can and tell them to turn away from your sins and choose god
In this Scripture Jesus is telling us to spread the Gospel, and that we need to be prepared for heaven. Jesus instructed the church to teach his teachings. Preach to the people without Jesus, and Our whole goal in life is to get to heaven and Jesus is the only way we can do that.
In modern times, people in the higher class believe that their opinions are above everyone else’s. There is no comparison between what God thinks of you and what other people think. No matter what other people tell you, they can’t control your actions. You are a pilot learning the controls. God is the other more experienced pilot sitting next to you ready to save the plane if it gets out of control.
“Who do people say that the Son of Man is? ”They replied, “Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” This is telling us that it doesn’t matter what other people (social media) think Jesus is, but what we believe He is.
“But who do you say that I am?” Really struck me because people can say they believe in this about God or they believe in this about God but what matters is what do YOU think of God and who he is. Don’t let other people choose your relationship with God and damage it just because some people think its “lame” or “dumb”. Love God for yourself not others.
But who do you say that I am?
This is a really tough question. Sure he’s God but are we putting him first. God should always come first. He saved us, he lets us in his house but day after day we disobey and sin. God doesn’t give up on us, if you feel like he isn’t there know that. He doesn’t give up on us so why do we give up on him?
So I have a Bible, not old or new, just a Bible. I read it but not everyday. I have a friend who is not Catholic but Christian. She knows what mass is, what the inside of a Church looks like, but she didn’t do communion and get her confirmation. Shes just a girl who loves God. She likes to bring her Bible to my house and we like to recite and read it together, sometimes shell tell me cool facts that I dido know and then put on a show, it like a novel in her mind and It great. I wish I could be more like her one day because even if I am in a faith that is supposed to be more higher than her I think she could be one of the noble people in life.
What Jesus is saying in this passage is that when you know who He is, He will know you and give you a place in Heaven with Him. We should always find time to get to know Jesus and develop a bond with Him not use Him only when we need to. We should always pray to Him and look towards Him as a form of guidance and help.
What stuck out to me was “For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father.” This stuck out to me because Jesus said his Heavenly Father revealed to Simon that He is the one true God. The apostles got to know Jesus and pray with Him. Simon was revealed that Jesus was the Son of God by God, Simon talked to God and probably prayed to Him so He could know that Jesus was the Son of God. We have to do what the apostles did to get to know and grow deeper in our faith with Jesus.
We have a stable Catholic community because of past popes, bishops, priests, and seminarians. But not just because of them rather because of Jesus. Jesus taught us all we need to know so now put it into your faith and faith community.
Jesus is telling us that he is God. He is our savior, preacher, savior, and so much more. Because of him we get to live in happiness and eternal life. His word has saved us and helped us from fighting off temptation.
“You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” We say that we know about God and who he is but we can always use more knowledge about our faith. We don’t know everything and that is okay. If we learn more about God and our religion it can help us grow deeper in our faith. The more we understand about our faith, the better we can pray. We all should try to do our best to get to Heaven and meet God. When we die we will have answers to any question and we will be able to live with God for eternity.
“I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” Jesus says this because He truly is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. This is one my favorite lines from the Bible and of the things Jesus said in general. It is a very powerful line and it really shows how amazing Jesus truly is. He is the Way because He leads us to Heaven. He is the Truth because He has no sin, He is who we should worship and believe. He is Life because He died for our sins, so we should live like Him.
Today Jesus is telling us that we need to know that Jesus is God, and to not get caught up in everything. People think Buddha was a god, people though Muhhamed was a god, people still think someone besides Jesus is God. Peter knew Jesus was God because the Holy Spirit was upon him, and he allowed it to happen by surrendering himself to the Holy Spirit.
Who do you think Jesus is? Do you really believe he came to save us? It’s a hard question. There are so many things that could go into it but it is also easy. Jesus loves you, Jesus cares for you everyday, and He is ALWAYS there for you. That’s what Jesus wants us to think. He is here for us everyday but do we see him? He is the Lord but do we put him there as a Lord or as just someone who when I am told to pray to I pray to him. He asks us today what we see him as. We should see him as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit who loves each and everyone of us equally all the days of our life. So tell him that today. Pray a little more today. Talk to him because He is the one who saved you.
Jesus is telling us that he is God and the Son of God. It’s right in front of our faces and a lot of people don’t see it or ignore it. We need to recognize that He is God and He is the Way.
In this Gospel Jesus asks who do you say I am, Peter responds You are Christ the son of God.
People say a lot of things about us, and they may all say different things. Most of us are asking ourselves the same question, who am I? You may be thinking well I’m whatever my parents named me, while yes that’s your title, but that’s not necessarily who you are. You need to find out who you are in Christ, you need to sit with yourself alone for a while and listen, this might take a couple weeks, it might take a couple months, point is that’s how you find out who you are. You have to sit alone with yourself and talk to God and yourself to figure it out. The answer might be something you’ve never thought of or it might be right in front of you, once you know, you need to decide if your going to listen and go with it or not. You make the choice, no one is going to stop you, only you and God know who you are, what your meant to be, and how you get there. You can ignore it or you can chase it and go for it.
“But who do you say that I am?” This stuck out to me because Jesus was asking Peter, but He was also asking us who we think He is. We may just want so say “You are God.” or “You are Jesus.” because that is what we were taught. We would have to take time out of our day to pray to Him and tell Him about our day. We should want to get to know Him more not be forced to. God wants to hear your voice, he isn’t going to tell you “Pray to me!!” he will allow you to do that on your own
To get to Heaven and eternal life, we don’t need wealth or popularity on earth in our physical life, what we need it a strong faith and Jesus to get wherever we want to go
In this scripture reflection I was reminded that everything that I do on earth will stay with me forever and that must always be careful of my actions toward myself and others.
“And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it.” This stuck out to me because it tells me that the Church is more powerful than anything, but not because we take our nations and kill, but because we love one another and care for each other.
Jesus told peter that he was going to be the first pope. By doing this Jesus showed that he has a plan for us. A great plan that he knew and had planned since we were born. He has a plan for us to get back to him and to bring heaven to earth. To be the light that he was when he was once on earth and now in heaven. He shows that no matter how big or small you are he has a huge plan for you, you just have to trust him.
I think God in the scripture today that he is telling us to rely on him and trust him. We always think that when we need something that it won’t happen just because it doesn’t happen immediately, but just because want you want done isn’t done immediately doesn’t mean that God isn’t going to help you. We just have to be patient and wait for things and let them happen when they happen.
jesus is our god. he is the way and the truth, we all have free will so we all have a choice we can either choose to believe the word of god and be with him for eternity in heaven or we can choose not to and live in hell for eternity where there is no jesus becuase of the choice you made wich was not believeng and god so now you can live with out him in hell.
I think God is trying to tell us that we need Faith, we do not need to be a billionaire we do not need to be internet famous. All we need is Faith to make it to Heaven.
I think Jesus is trying to tell us that we have to live through him to get to the father. Jesus died for us so everybody else can see his father. Jesus lived so selflesly so we can all be together in heaven one day. So let us strive to be perfect just like Jesus.
Simon Peter said in reply, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Sometimes when I read this I think Peter is very brave. No not because of what he has done or does in the future simply because he has the courage to say the truth even when the rest of the disciples remain silent. Can we be like Peter when someone asks us about our faith? Would we have to think about if I say this they won’t look at me the same even if it’s what I believe. Again I say Peter is brave and if we ever get asked or challenged about our faith we should strive to be brave and say “Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God.” and I believe this.
“WHATEVER YOU LOOSE ON EARTH SHALL BE LOOSED IN HEAVEN.” This is confusing yet easy to understand. We can hold onto something so tight then lose it so easily. I bet a bunch of people lost what was most important to them but that isn’t what Jesus is saying. Loose is not tightly or firmly placed, detached or the ability to detach. We have the ability to detach ourselves from God. We have the ability to do anything and God just doesn’t want us to lose our connection with him. We should detach everything that has earthly value for God to go to Heave. Do we have the strength to loosen everything that is of value to us to go to Heaven?
In today’s scripture it talked about how the pope and the bishops have papal infallibility which means they are speaking what Jesus spoke when he was still alive and when doing that they speaking the truth and they aren’t perfect there like everybody else its just God speaks through them to help us get to him in heaven and to stay on the path of righteousness and to be good children of God.
what do we need in life? i know we need food and water, but what do we need above that? God. we need God. we need God to be with us in times of struggle and times of joy. we need God in our lives, so lets not push him away.
what stuck out to me in this passage was “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” This stuck out to me for many reasons but one of which is that it says it right there that God is the life so how can you live without God. We need to be able to let him into our lives and truly believe that he is there and will be able to lead you in the right direction in your life. We need to trust him and let him into our heart.
Jesus asks the apostles who people think He is, the apostles reply with prophets. But then Jesus asks Peter who he thinks He is. Peter’s response is truly amazing to think about because he says that Jesus is the Son of God, the Messiah the one who will save us all. And Jesus replies by saying that flesh and blood haven’t revealed that to him. God the Father has. He showed him that Jesus is truly human and divine, the savior, and the Messiah. Jesus also tells Peter that he is the rock of His church, that He will build upon Peter. Peter is the churches foundation. It’s very special really to think that Jesus chose a human to be the rock of the church and not Himself. That shows how trusting and how amazing Jesus truly was, how He was willing to rely on a sinning human to be the foundation of His church. If we can be as firm in our faith as Peter was in this moment, we will have our eyes opened. We will see the truth.
whenever I first heard of papal infallibility, I was in religion bowl. I did not think of this gospel, and I did not realize that that was what this is. Papal Infallibility is the Pope’s ability to be right, no matter what. That he is so holy, that we accept his word like it is the word of God.
“I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” stood out to me because it is saying God is the way and he is always here with us.
I think in today’s scripture reflection God is telling us to be prepared for what is after life. There is an afterlife, and God wants us to prepare ourselves for it. Not just it, but Him. He is our Savior, and he will always be.
I believe the Lord is saying do as he says for he is the Lord our. God sent him to preach and teach on behalf of the Father. The lord is saying to us we are his and should help teach and preach about the Lord.
Do not lord it over those assigned to you,
but be examples to the flock.
And when the chief Shepherd is revealed,
you will receive the unfading crown of glory.
I think Jesus is trying to tell us that we shouldn’t be bandwagon people who go with what everyone else is doing but we should be praising God by ourselves so that we will be rewarded with the gift of heaven.
“I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” This stood out to me because, God it the truth and if we are troubled we should always come to him.
I think the scripture is telling us to defend our religion. There are so many people who don’t have the same beliefs as we do and we have to defend our religion and know that the Holy Spirit is guiding us and the church.
God is telling us that we don’t need to be rich or popular to make it into Heaven. All you need is Faith. We are already rich in love by God and we can get to Heaven if we have Faith in God.I WILL GIVE YOU THE KEYS TO THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN. WHATEVER YOU BIND ON EARTH SHALL BE BOUND IN HEAVEN; AND WHATEVER YOU LOOSE ON EARTH SHALL BE LOOSED IN HEAVEN.” This part struck me because we trust God that we can get into Heaven by having Faith in Him.
I think God is trying to say that we should leave our objects behind us to follow Him. The quote “Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven” is an example of this. We need to become a saint and the first step is to put everything behind you and follow Him.
Today Jesus is telling me that He gave Peter the blessing of guiding the Church. There have been many good and bad popes. The popes, bishops, and priests are here to help us get to heaven. We need to be prepared for when we go and get the chance to meet God in his kingdom (heaven).
“Whatever you bound on earth will not be bound to Heaven.” this stuck out to me because on earth we are so focused on physical things so much to the point where god is not present in our hearts.
What stuck out to me was i will guide you into the truth this stuck out to me because that is such good words he tells you what you should and shouldnt do and he wants you to get to heaven so he can be with us and not only some people everyone.
In today’s scripture reflection Jesus is telling us that we need to be prepared to see him in heaven. We need to spreed the word of God and start praying more to God so that we can make it into heaven.
“WHATEVER YOU BIND ON EARTH SHALL BE BOUND IN HEAVEN”
I think it mean that whatever we do on earth, it follows us once we go to heaven.
God will see all the bad stuff we have done on earth.
I will give you the keys to heaven whatever you do in earth will be in heaven whatever you lose on earth will be lost in heaven.God gives us the oppurtunity to get to heaven when He says I give you the keys to get to heaven.Whatever we do on earth Will be like our reward on heaven so if we do bad on earth our reward will be hell so we have to be good so we can get to heaven.
God is trying to show us that He has all that we need if we follow him and trust in him. Peter knew Jesus was God because the Holy Spirit was upon him. We should always pray to God and look his way as a way of guidance and when in need.
“And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it.” This really stuck out to me because, God will always protect us, even though many don’t believe so. He is our Lord, Savior. We need to trust in God, always.
“Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven” (Matt. 18:18). This stuck out a lot to me. He’s not saying what we have on Earth we can bring to heaven. No he is saying what happens here will decide what happens up there in heaven. All the things that truly mattered in life will never be forgotten by God. All the times we had communion or all the times we went and confessed our sins. All of the good deeds we did on Earth. That will truly decide the future that is yet to come.
” WHATEVER YOU BIND ON EARTH SHALL BE BOUND IN HEAVEN; AND WHATEVER YOU LOOSE ON EARTH SHALL BE LOOSED IN HEAVEN.” This mean that God had a purpose for us what we lose is for the best and what bind on earth will be there in Heaven with us.
Today Jesus shows us that He is God. Jesus tries to show us that He has all that we need if we follow him.He Shows us that he will provide for us when we need him.
Whatever we bound on Earth will be bound in Heaven. Whatever we lose shall be lost in Heaven. God is telling us, that we will be happy, cleansed from our sins, and live eternally with God.
“Christ instructed the Church to preach everything he taught.” This sentence stuck out to me because he wants us to preach everything he taught because he taught right. He doesn’t want us doing our own thing he wants us to do what he did so we can be like him and go to heaven.
The Catholic Church began with the blood and water that flowed from Jesus’s side and was established through Peter, the Apostles, and Mary. It is guided by the Holy Spirit and has always remained true to the teachings of Jesus Christ.
What I got from this Gospel is that we should always trust God in what we do. Whether that be spreading the Gospel to others or just simply believing that God gives you a purpose. When you believe, God will always help you through things. Even though it’s hard to admit sometimes, we all need help.
“which I am teaching you to observe” This stuck out to me because we don’t realize the lessons God is giving us in our lives. When something bad happens, God made that happen for a reason. Everything happens for a reason.
We need to listen to Jesus, because he is the way.
“But who do you say that I am?” This stuck out to me because we should always believe in God
Jesus said to Peter in the scripture that Peter will be the rock upon he will build his church. It was this passage that Jesus told Peter that he would be the first Pope
Truth cannot contradict itself (St. Thomas Aquinas) and Jesus Christ said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” We should try to be like Jesus and live the way of truth and follow his way to become a disciple.
