Paul reveals to us the beliefs of two different faiths today: Muslim and Christian. Muslim follow Hagar, Sarah’s slave, who Abraham had Ishmael and Christians follow Jacob the son of Abraham and Sarah. But the Jerusalem above is freeborn, and she is our mother.
For it is written:
Rejoice, you barren one who bore no children;
break forth and shout, you who were not in labor;
for more numerous are the children of the deserted one
than of her who has a husband.
Therefore, brothers and sisters,
we are children not of the slave woman
but of the freeborn woman.
Gal 4:22-24, 26-27, 31-5:1
Jesus once again reveals Himself to everyone while He is present on earth and today reveals Himself again to us in the Scriptures, the revealed Word of God. He tells them they are an evil generation that demands a sign. He summarizes parts of the Old Testament about Solomon and Jonah and then says there is something greater in their presence, Himself, the Sond of God whom they will not accept.
Today, Jesus is right here. First, if you are baptized He is right in your heart, listen to Him in silence. Second, He has sacrificed to stay with us until His return in the Eucharist. Third, He is with us in the monstrance in adoration. Fourth, He is present everywhere in all tabernacles of the world. Fifth, He is with us in the Scriptures, the Word alive. We don’t need a sign, Jesus has already revealed everything that needs to be revealed, He has died and resurrected, freed us from the slavery of sin and death, and is present with us now. We just need to pay attention!
