Prayer Prompt before reading LK 9:22-25: Come, Holy Spirit, teach me how to pray well, interpret the Scriptures for me so that I may know the Truth about who God the Father and God the Son are so that I may know who I am.
“WHAT PROFIT IS THERE FOR ONE TO GAIN THE WHOLE WORLD YET LOSE OR FORFEIT HIMSELF?” LK 9:22-25
Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.
Why do we have to deny ourselves? We have inherited a fallen human nature, a loss of grace/holiness. We have an inclination to sin each day we wake (concupiscence). Oh, how many times I have followed my own desires instead of the Lord’s. What cross? Our daily crosses. Everyone suffers. It is relative to the situation your are dealt in life, but everyone suffers. Jesus gives purpose to our suffering and fashions our daily crosses to what we can deal with and sometimes what we can’t deal with, we can offer them up and receive grace which is necessary to reach heaven. The saints thanked God for their crosses. Our crosses are where we learn to embrace Christ and recognize we need Him falling to our knees to ask for Him to give us what we truly need, His grace, comfort, peace, and joy.
It is impossible to be holy without God’s grace. Salvation is a complete gift along with our lives. Therefore, we must lose our life to save it. We must become suffering servants like the Master Suffering Servant. Finally, our lives are not about us, they are meant to be given away. Look at a crucifix and really try to figure out the Truth about our lives.
When we believe Jesus resurrected and everything He says is true, we come to His feet each day in the Gospels to learn how to be a good and faithful servant. We are asked by Christ to lose our life for the sake of the Gospel. Our suffering has purpose and the saints even looked for ways to suffer more. Why? Jesus gave all. Even more important, He loved doing the will of the Father. The will of the Father was for Jesus to give up His life for the world. We could never even come close to paying Him back. He paid the ultimate sacrifice to save you and me. He continues to sacrifice today to stay with us hidden behind bread and wine, so that we will have spiritual food for the journey. He forgives when we are truly sorry and have fallen. Each time we fall and go through suffering, we become stronger and closer to Him. He strengthens us, never leaves us, always forgives, and is waiting daily for an invitation to be with us in our suffering.
Last, and most importantly, the greatest way to follow Jesus is by being detached from material things. ”What profit is there to gain the whole world but forfeit one’s life.” We are so distracted from what matters most. It takes daily submission to God’s will, prayer, silence, bringing ourselves to the sacraments, and continual learning and instruction by Jesus in the Gospels. We are human and we quickly forget. We are a mystery to ourselves. We need a rock, never changing Truth, to come back to so we do not get off the beaten track. I need Him constantly throughout my day. He has left us with the Holy Spirit to help us understand His Truths and pass them on to others. How shallow is our faith if we cannot pray in public and dialogue with others what we believe.
“Whoever is ashamed of me and of my words
in this faithless and sinful generation,
the Son of Man will be ashamed of
when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”
Ouch! I have a lot of work to do! If we believe in the resurrection of Jesus which makes all of His Words True, this Lent may we begin to live in our hearts and minds like Christ. Christ is not dead, He is fully alive today with us. He resurrected!!!!! If we want to follow Him, we are called to die to self, offer up our daily crosses, strengthen our faith through His teachings, put on the Armor of God, and begin to fight Satan and grow in holiness! It is impossible to follow Him, without His grace and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. “Come to me all who are heavy burdened and I will give you rest.” ”My heart is restless until it rests in You.” Amen.
Today’s challenge: Lent is here, make a commitment to grow in holiness, fight Satan, and make time to pray and reflect on the Scriptures. Establish a good habit of this during Lent so that it continues throughout the rest of your life so you can look back at next year’s Lent and say, “I have grown in holiness the last 40 days.” We have suffered a lot this year. Reflect on suffering and its benefits!
Be a servant, become a saint!
#Christian YODO (You Only Die Once; we will live again!)
It is impossible to be holy without God’s grace. Salvation is a complete gift along with our lives. Therefore, we must lose our life to save it. We must become suffering servants like the Master Suffering Servant. Finally, our lives are not about us, they are meant to be given away. This stood out to me because it is really deep and is very thick with truth.
This is saying that if you are trying to live your life for the world then you will lose your life, but if you live your life for God you will live forever.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells us about the Passion, and what He is about to go through. He tells us that if we want to follow him, we need to also take up our crosses every day, and trust in Jesus. Whatever we are struggling with, we give it to Him. If we give Him a little cross everyday and sacrifice, we will be a lot happier and feel closer to God. So, let us all trust in God and take up our crosses with Him.
In the Gospel Jesus is reading a prophet and then say that if we want to be with him eternally then we need to put down our life for God.
sometimes we do sins that we know are sins but we still do them because everyone else does them. we need to go away from that and think before we speak/act. we need to sacrfice the Earthly things so we can get closer to him. we can only get closer to God if we actually want to you have to have faith in the Lord.
“WHAT PROFIT IS THERE FOR ONE TO GAIN THE WHOLE WORLD YET LOSE OR FORFEIT HIMSELF?” LK 9:22-25. This stood out to me because Jesus is asking us if there is a whole world that a profit could lose or a whole world he could forfeit himself.
Jesus today is testing his disciples’ faith because He says you have to be all in or not at all. You can’t be on the fence; Satan owns the fence. Faith is just like discipline, you have to discipline yourself to be faithful. If you want to be super strong, you cant just do a few push ups and think you’ll look like a bodybuilder. You have to put in daily work and effort to become a strong Catholic, and you must believe it is worth it.
“If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself
and take up his cross daily and follow me.
For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it,
but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.
What profit is there for one to gain the whole world
yet lose or forfeit himself?”
(what i interpreted) This part of the Gospel says that you shall follow me, no man shall be first. I am the man that shall be first. No man is higher than me, if so, why did he not die for us? Jesus died for our sins, yet we cower in the face of evil. God is on our side. As long as we have God with us, no evil can hurt us. But you have to make it be known in your heart, that God is with you. You have to know that God will not let harm fall upon us. But you have to turn to God first. Make him your priority, Talk to him daily, grow in your relationship with God. When faced with death or evil, turn to God for protection. If you turned to God for a very long time he will be with you. Even if you didn’t he will still be with you. God loves you. There is nothing in this world that he wouldn’t do for you.
Today’s Gospel is telling me that you have to give up yourself for God! God wants us to be with Him and to do that we have to pray and let God into our hearts. God wants to talk to us but if we don’t open our hearts for Him then we will never give ourselves to God.
“Take up his cross daily and follow me.”
That meant to me that we have to all follow God and take up our own cross and hearts so that we can meet Him in Heaven one day.
“WHAT PROFIT IS THERE FOR ONE TO GAIN THE WHOLE WORLD YET LOSE OR FORFEIT HIMSELF?” LK 9:22-25 this line was really important to me because it shows that you could gain the whole world, with all the money, mansions, cars, and belongings you want, but you may lose yourself in the process. When your young, you think having money will make you happy, and that being rich can solve all your problems. When you get older you realize that money and power can ruin someones life. They can be rich, but if they dont have God are they really rich? If they lose all their relationships because of how they use their power, are they rich? Technically yes they have all that money, but they lack the human relations that everyone needs. They end up losing their selfs. But not all rich people have to lose their selves, you can profit from being rich, if the money is put in the right hands.
I think the phrase “Finally, our lives are not about us, they are meant to be given away.” is very important because it helps us understand that we need to help others in life. Even if that means having to give are most prized belongings, time, talent, and treasure as Jesus did. We need to use Jesus as a role-model or a painting of how our life should be lived. He helped others knowing that he would be ridiculed and exiled but still he endured the pain, humiliation, and burden of all our sins, so we should learn from him and help others just as he did.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus predicts his death and resurrection. just like Jesus we must carry our cross everyday, a cross of sin, guilt, and shame.
Jesus says whoever wishes to gain their life will lose it. Whoever chooses his life on earth without denying their flesh and carrying their own cross will lose eternal life.
“It is impossible to be holy without God’s grace” really stood out to me because of how true it is. Its really a good thing to keep on your mind. Its an amazing reminder of how much Jesus does for us and will continue to do. He does these amazing things and we expect them for free. We must learn to make sacrifices in our daily life to Honor the true sacrifices Jesus made in his.
“’The Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised.'”
In the Gospel today Jesus is telling his future and fate to his disciples, yet they still rebuke the idea of Jesus dying. We all would, yet we also ignore the fact that the reason Jesus died, was our fault. Our sins make everything worse and if we continue, then you might as well say goodbye to a happy death. (at least I think that’s what you would call it…) Love God, Love your neighbors and love JMJ for if you don’t then you might as well live in a hole.
It was telling me why and who Jesus had to die for us and what the reasons were for us!
In today’s Scripture, it is talking about we deny ourselves. It tells us that we can not live a day on this earth without having the grace of God’s love and mercy. We all suffer in many different ways, but God has his love and grace for you. Salvation in the Greatest thing in this world. We believe in the resurrection of the Lord. He died for us and he helps you fight off Satan when temptation comes out way/ Jesus loves you so much!!!!
what this means to me that we need to let go of selfish interests and prioritize Gods will because only through him good things come and putting out electronics above him is not prioritizing him we need to start valuing him and pray more because all the worldly things will be useless in the kingdom of God wealth and being popular means nothing in heaven.
The saints thanked God for their crosses. Our crosses are where we learn to embrace Christ and recognize we need Him falling to our knees to ask for Him to give us what we truly need, His grace, comfort, peace, and joy.We carry the same cross as God it is are sin.Your cross gets bigger the more you sin.Jesus get beaten every time we sin.
in todays scripture I learned that it is impossible to be holy without God’s grace.we need God in our lives to stay by us and guide us to heaven so we can be fulfilled in a holy life with God forever.
Today in the Gospel Jesus said his death “The Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised.”So we must take up our crosses and follow.
In the Gospel today Jesus is saying that those who give up our lives for him, those who give up worldly pleasures for him, will be given eternal life. We will gain life through giving up our own. We will be rejected by society but we will be welcomed by God.
In today’s gospel, Jesus tells the people about how he will die and rise from the dead. He wants us to believe in Him and trust in him because he loves us and wants us to go to heaven.
In today’s Gospel I think it told me that we need to live God’s life not ours. “For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it,
but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.” I think more people to know that because we all live our lives never Gods , we go out doing other things like video games, and hanging out with friends when we could be at Mass, and praying with friends instead of partying.
Good job, Cullen!
In today’s Gospel, it reminded me how we are a fallen nature. But God loves us so much that He would send his only Son to die for our sins for the salvation of the world.
In today’s Gospel Jesus says “If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” This is telling us that we have to sacrifice if we want follow God. It is then followed by “For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.” That tells us that we must be willing to give up our lives to Jesus, not willing to give up our lives just so we can get to heaven.
In todays gospel Jesus tells us that the son of man shall be rejected by mankind, be condemmed and to carry the cross, whoever tries to save him shall not make it. What profit is there for one to gain the world but forfeit himself.
In the Gospel today Jesus says “If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” I have been hearing for a long time from multiple people ” you have to carry your cross”. i have never really understood what they meant until I realized that my cross is ever sacrifice that I make, ever time I put others needs before my own. That is my cross and sometimes it a lot heavy then others, but that’s when we should ask Jesus to help us carry our cross as Simon helped him.
In the gospel today when it said, “it is impossible to be without God’s grace,” really stood out to me because some people seem to not know this. People going through rough times may not know this. People struggling with illness and disease may not know God or that He is with them all the time. It is sad to me that some people don’t know that God can help them through everything and is always with them.
Today Jesus talks of the most direct text in the Gospels. I remember watching the scene from the Chosen where he tells his apostles this and they don’t understand. It makes a little sense that they didn’t understand because Jesus always speaks in parables and this didn’t make much sense to talk literally. Then in the second part he talks about being ready to serve Jesus and sacrifice for him.
when Jesus says to take up our cross daily i think now that it is lent in means to fast daily, to pray daily, to give up our selves fully and holy. I think Jesus just wants us, he wants us to talk to him, to listen to him, to visit him. hi died for us. and we can’t give him anything because he has everything. the only thing he does not have is us. and yet we run away, so this lent we need to surrender and give ourselves up for him.
I think today’s gospel is telling me that even with our fallen human nature, Jesus can help us take up our cross like he did.
In today’s Gospel I think I was told that we should do God’s Will and live his life. We should do our best to live out our faith. We can do that by going to Mass instead of staying at home and playing video games. We need to stop our addictions because it turns us away from God. We can make a new habit by turning away from time wasters and instead praying silently to God.
In today’s Gospel Jesus say’s that “If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me”. Jesus is telling us that we need to let go of our selfish thoughts and actions and focus on helping others and not just ourselves.
In today’s gospel it is telling me that I need to give my everything to Jesus, and that I have to work for it and stay loyal to him.
In today’s gospel God is saying to me that whoever wishes to save his life will lose their life forever. Whoever loses his life for his sake will save us. God is giving us a chance to have the whole world or having him. I’m definitely choosing the Lord.
It really stuck out to me when the gospel said whoever tries to save his life will loose it and the other way around. It felt like the last shall be first and the first shall be last. I also loved how they foreshadowed Jesus deing and rising from the dead
I’m pretty sure in this Gospel Jesus is telling His disciples or warning them about whats going to happen later on and He’s explaining, I think how to get to heaven or to live a life that’s can lead to heaven by following Him.
In today’s Gospel it say that “Salvation is a complete gift along with our lives. Therefore, we must lose our life to save it.” This stuck out to me today because it is trying to tell me that if you live for God you will live forever in heaven but if you live for other things then you will lose it.
“For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.” If we are selfish and put our own desires over God’s will we’ll lose our life and spend eternity without God if we don’t repent. If we put others above ourselves and God’s will above our own we will spend eternity in paradise with him. Jesus said “What ever you do to the least of my people that you do unto me,” if we do not value other peoples lives above our own we will not make it to heaven “when I was naked you clothed me,” all humans are made in God’s image and deserve our love and the love of God.
What this is saying is the only reason for us on earth is to
1 get to heaven
2 bring as many people with us as we can
If you lost your soul, have you truly gained any profit from this world? Follow what God wants and not just what you want.Lost? Follow the Holy Spirit. They will guide you through life and show you what God wants you to do.
when Jesus said to is disciples and all saying that he would suffer 40 days and 40 nights. then he said to them if anyone would want to come with me he would have to deny himself and take his cross daily and follow Jesus. so what i feel like i got out of this gospel is that we have to give our self up to him. Fasting that one thing that you think u can ´ t live without. and spending that time that you would spend on your device and praying more or going into silence.
Jesus said to all:
If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily to follow me. This phrase is very striking to me because Jesus is stating that we as Christians must deny our pride, envy, wish for power, etc to follow Him. As humans we are imperfect and sin daily for “However wishes to save his life will lose it and however loses his life for my sake will save it” this shows that we struggle to take up our cross and follow Him. we are so caught up in our worldly desires that we lose sight of what truly matters.
In today’s Gospel Jesus said “The Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised.” He knew that He would have to suffer and die for us. For our own faults, sins that we have. He knew He had to die for us knowing the way the world was one day gonna be. He knew that the world would be evil, selfish, insecure, and mean. He knew sin would be destroying all of our souls. He knew that we would be killing ourselves from the inside out by our insecurities, our sins, lies, taking about others. He knew that we would be our greatest enemy. He knew that most people would hate their lives and their selves. He knew people would hate the way they are form their hair, body, face to their voice, personality. He knew He needed to die to save us from ourselves and our friends, family, teachers, bullies, form life itself. He died so He could make a place for us so that one day we could be free of hate, judgement, gossip, falseness, and insecurities. He made a place for us so that one day we could finally be happy. He carried His cross for us while, knowing that we would have to carry our crosses to save our self from ourselves, sin, depression, anxiety, self hatred. He loves us so much that he died to save us so that one day we could be with His to be happy.
It is impossible to be holy without God’s grace. Salvation is a complete gift along with our lives. Therefore, we must lose our life to save it. We must become suffering servants like the Master Suffering Servant. Finally, our lives are not about us, they are meant to be given away. Look at a crucifix and really try to figure out the Truth about our lives. the first line in this paragraph really sticks out to me the most. it really makes me think of how Catholics and non Catholics try and be good and do good things but they stay away from confession and the Eucharist. Two of the most amazing things God ever gave us. the power to have our sins take away from us. not because he has to but because he wants to and wanted to take away our sin, our bad deeds, our regrets, and fears. It’s beautiful how Jesus chose to die on the cross for us not for glory but because he chose to save us from sin and death so we can be with him in heaven.
“If you obey the commandments of the LORD, your God,
which I enjoin on you today,
loving him, and walking in his ways,
and keeping his commandments, statutes and decrees,
you will live and grow numerous,”
This says to me if you obey your parents and anyone even God, Love them and help them with whatever they need, they will repay you in goodness. And keeping his commandments in your heart for the greater.
“WHAT PROFIT IS THERE FOR ONE TO GAIN THE WHOLE WORLD YET LOSE OR FORFEIT HIMSELF?” What this means to me is that there is no point to have everything in the world like money if you do not have Jesus. With Jesus you can have all things more than money or material items. So put God first over everything.
“It is impossible to be holy without God’s grace” we all long to go to heaven and some believe they can make it without God. When we don’t have God we have nothing, we have an empty feeling longing for Gods grace and love. WE believe we can make it to heaven just by being “good”. we need to be holy and we cant be holy without God by outside.
Today something in the gospel that stuck out to me was “For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.” if you follow God and be happy and always trust in him he will help you throughout life, nut if you worry to much on stuff here on earth you will probably get lost in life that why we all need to carry our cross and follow God.
What I think the lord is trying to tell me is that he made this beatiful world for us because he loves us with this whole heart this is they world where we are supposed to spread the good news and become closer to God.
“If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. What profit is there for one to gain the whole world yet lose or forfeit himself?” I think that in today’s Gospel, Jesus is trying to tell us that we need to basically get our priorities straight and forget about worldly and physical objects, and instead focus on the one thing that we don’t have to see to believe: God
“If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself
and take up his cross daily and follow me.” In this Gospel, God is asking us to follow him. That’s what he wants from all of us, for us to follow in His path and to help other people like we were called to do. But we always need to know, that choosing a different path can cause consequences.
In this Gospel passage Jesus predicts His suffering. Not only does he do that but he also tells us what we need to know when following Him. God wants us to be in heaven with Him but we can’t do that unless we suffer. Suffering seems bad at first, but suffering can assist us into heaven. Sometimes we forget that we will live again, this life is temporary. What you do in this live though dictates your forever.
In this Scripture I think God is telling me that we should do whatever it takes to be with Him. We must work through what other people say and hatred that they send towards. We have to know that the ultimate goal is Him and his will is most important. So we should not care if other people want us to do bad stuff, or say bad things about others. We should care about what people have to say, but if it contradicts what the Lord wants then we should correct them with a pure heart. We should not be embarrassed for helping a person get closer to Christ, but have joy that you have helped someone get closer to your Lord.
God is telling me that if we choose to follow him during lent we must carry our own Cross. We must fast and pray and give up certain things that tempt us for bad. this is what Jesus wants.
The Gospel today tells us to take up our cross daily. If you lose your life for God, you will save it. “What profit is there for one to gain the whole world yet lose or forfeit himself?” Each day, we need to remember that God is always there when you need him. These Forty days, we need to take up our own daily struggle and ask God to help us persevere.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus foreshadows his death and resurrection. He tells His disciples that the elders, the Scribes, and even the chief priests will deny him. He says if you want to come after me you can’t because He is trying to save us, but He tells us you have to take up your cross and follow the Lord.
In this Gospel I think God is telling me that we have to sacrifice to be with him. We sacrifice for lent and grow closer to God through it. We sacrifice the pleasure of sins to be with God in heaven. Even though it takes some sacrifices, we can stay with God in heaven eternally.
Its impossible to be holy without Gods grace. We should never deny it, but accept it. Because he loves us very much, and we should accept his love with open arms. Salvation is something we should be grateful for, and we should do everything to stay with Christ.
God tells me today that we have to be fulfilled with him and not the worldly desires we cannot give our selves to the world and “forfeit” our souls. When we “forfeit” our body and world desires we give ourselves to God the opposite of what I previously stated. Also he says that we all have our own crosses and we have to carry those. If we can forgive and repent then this cross will be sooo much easier to bare with God on our side always. Like in the breakout session today when we get into those situations where we have to carry a heavy cross we have to invite God into that moment.
Today’s gospel tells us that we should not live for worldly things but for Jesus only. To follow him we must give up our lives and devote ourselves wholly to him. We have to live for validation only through the Lord and no one else.
something that got stuck with me when i read this is that we cant go to heaven without Gods Grace and if it literally wasnt for him coming down to this earth and dying for our sins we would be cooked. get it like we would be cooked by the fires and cooked since we wouldnt be with Jesus. sorry off track but Jesus was the sole purpose we even have a chance at getting into heaven Jesus saves us form getting sent into the fires of hell and gives us a chance to live in Heaven with him forever.
What I got out of today’s Gospel is that God wants us to lay and commit out life to him if we want to enter into heaven. We cannot prioritize all these earthy things and then when all of that is gone we just then turn to God and expect to immediately enter into heaven after. We must put our screens down this lent and try to forget the worldly distractions and spend time with God and build a relationship with him so we can enter the kingdom of God.
In this Gospel, Jesus tells us that in order to follow Him, you must give your life away and follow Jesus with everything you have. If you cling onto your life, you will lose it; if you give up your life for Jesus, you’ll save it. There is no in-between. This battlefield that we are born on has no frontier. You are either with Jesus or against him. You need to build up the fortitude, courage, wisdom, and faith to follow Jesus and carry up your cross, leaving yourself behind, or go away from the hill to save your life. We do not own our lives, we were given them by God, our Creator, and the one who we are to go back to when our pilgrimage is done. So, during this Lenten season, may we ask God to help us carry our cross and to make us brave to give up our lives and follow him with all of our heart, mind, strength, and soul. May we ask Him to help us know what God has in store for us so that we may please him with the dream God has for us.
What this gospel tells me is that I need to not be afraid of suffering, and instead I need to offer it up to God, this is partly because it will make me a happier person and a more enjoyable person to be around. But it is mostly so I can go to Heaven and love God as much as I can and have the best relationship I can with him.
“If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself” We have to put God at the center of our lives, he gave us everything we had and gave us amazing opportunitys so we need to use them for good.
In today’s Gospel Jesus is telling us to deny ourselves, repent, and take up our daily crosses with him. If we do not give up our lives to God we are losing our life. If we do give up our lives to God then we will be within him and live forever.
“The Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes” Jesus talks to his disciples telling them that He must suffer and be rejected by the main religious men of his time. I think He is telling us that for the greater good, you will suffer, you might be rejected and shamed for your beliefs in faith and what you think is right or wrong. Such as abortion, all over social media I have seen polls that said to some extent, are you pro-life or pro-choice, and as a Catholic, I know that murder is wrong regardless of the stage of life you are in from conception to hundreds of years old because in the end it is murder. But people don’t have the same opinions that I do and they don’t have the same beliefs, so when I state my views sometimes people get angered and decide to argue with a 14 year old on her opinions of life and death. These types of polls have caused me to get blocked by some people and have to explain to others that they don’t need to have the same opinion as me. Which is why I think that part stood out to me, because it is talking about the suffering and rejection of people and their views in society.
Stay strong, Lexi! Proud of you!
Today in the Gospel Jesus tells us to give our lives to him and to give up everything to follow him. He tells us to keep following him, eventhough we will face many struggles, and not to stop, even when we are threatened. Power and money are of little importance because when you die, you leave that power or money behind.
The message I got from today’s gospel was to not become too attached to worldly things. In the gospel, Jesus says “whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.” To me, this means that I shouldn’t be so attached to my earthly life, but rather be prepared for Heaven.
“If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself
and take up his cross daily and follow me.
For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, what
That means if we don’t give life to God then we will
not have eternal life with him.
This spoke to me telling me that I need to be more selfless, like God the Father. I need to put others needs before my own like Jesus did.
Jesus today is testing his disciples faith because He says you have to be all in or not at all. You can’t be on the fence; Satan owns the fence. Faith is just like discipline you have to discipline yourself to be faithful. If you want to be super strong you cant just do a few push ups and think you’ll look like a bodybuilder. You have to put in daily work and effort to become a strong Catholic and you must believe it is worth it
“If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.” If we want to be saved and spend eternity with God, we must give up our lives, take up our cross, and follow Jesus.
In todays Gospel we see Jesus telling us what our priorities should be in our lives. He tells us, “What profit is there for one to gain the whole world yet lose or forfeit himself?” He tells us that our worldly possessions do not matter and we should be really focused on following God. In the season of Lent we should ask God to give us grace so we may grow closer to him.
In this gospel, Jesus is telling us to follow him even when things are hard. Jesus is saying to give up our lives to him, deny ourselves, and repent.
In todays Gosple It shows that Jesus wants us to follow him completly and to give everything up to him because we need to sacrafice some stuff in our life. But even if we struggle it is ok because we have to keep trying. We have to keep folowing Jesus give up everything and to just follow him
The part of this Gospel that stuck out to me was when Jesus says, ” If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself
and take up his cross daily and follow me.” This meant to me that every day we should take all of the little things in life that hurt, annoy, or anger us and offer it to God. And that we must leave behind all of our sinful ways and follow God instead.
In todays Gospel, God is telling me that I need to take up his cross. I need to give everything up to Jesus. Jesus died on the cross for US not for himself but for us. We need to follow him. He would even die on the cross even if we were the only human on earth.
In the Gospel today, Jesus was saying that we have to suffer before we can follow him. We have to give our life away to Him before we can follow Him.
If we lose our life here on earth, but did it right and followed God, we will in turn gain it in him, but better. Eternal Life.
What profit is there for one to gain the whole world
yet lose or forfeit himself?”
This stood out to me because everyone needs to put Jesus first in their lives. Jesus should be first before anything else we do.
“If however you turn away your hearts and will not listen, but are led astray and adore and serve other gods”. This stood out to me because it made me think of how sometimes I cherish other things in my life. Mass on Sunday, Tuesday, and Friday arent the most pivotal moments in my life. I need to make God the thing I look foward to every week.
Today’s Gospel Jesus is talking about how anyone who follows him must take up his cross and deny himself. I think that Jesus is telling us that we must do what he calls us to do. Jesus knows what’s best for us and his word is always good. we must follow the example of the disciples and take up our cross and follow Jesus.
What I took from today’s gospel is that Jesus was telling his disciples what was going to happen to him. We need to always stay by Jesus’s side and never look the other way. He will help us greatly and we will be more happy in life.
“What profit is there for one to gain the whole world yet lose or forfeit himself.”
this stood out to me because you cant have the world or become a ruler without losing part of yourself. if you think back to any movie you’ve ever watched with someone trying to take over the world, you can see they’ve always been a little corrupt. they’ve either never heared of god or is trying to ignore him, because he is the king of the universe, and no one can take that away from him
This is a really deep gospel reading, so its hard to find one thing and focus on it when the beauty of it all shines out. Jesus died for everyone sins and he does not need the sacrifice, he does not need the worship we give him, he gave us love (this is what i mean ‘1st sentence’). Love makes us do things that arent nessecary for others because we love them so deeply. Jesus loved us so much he died for our sins EVEN THOUGH WE DIDNT DESERVE IT AT ALL. We offer our suffering to the Lord NOT because HE NEEDS IT but because WE LOVE. The cycle goes on and on, Jesus sees this and he takes our sins and he takes our burdens from us. I truly think all of the grace, and mercy he gives us and the sufferings and burdens we give back is because of LOVE. #YODO
In today’s gospel Jesus foreshadows his death on the cross. He refers to dying by the hands of men, to save all of God’s children. He would rise on the 3rd day in triumph over evil, death, and most importantly – sin. He died so that we might live in him. Like Jesus we must take up our cross; however, it is not a physical cross but a cross of our own worldly desires keeping us from the one true loving God.
we have to sacrifice to be with the Lord. we also have to trust in him and believe in him and understand him. we also have to life in God’s life not our own life. . “For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it,” this part really tells me that if you are praying and praying and praying to God for him to keep your life and keeps on wishing will lose their life because its not up to them to deiced if there gonna live longer or die soon. it up to God. Happy Lent!
I think this Gospel is trying to tell me that I need to give my everything to Jesus, and that I actually have to work for it and it wont just be given to me.
¨Our crosses are where we learn to embrace Christ and recognize we need Him falling to our knees to ask for Him to give us what we truly need, His grace, comfort, peace, and joy.¨ This stood out to me the most by meaning that our sin makes us learn to recognize we need Him falling to our knees to ask for Him to give us His grace, comfort, peace, and joy, what we need most. We all have our own crosses, our own sin that makes us suffer. Jesus had his own cross where he died for us, suffering greatly for us. We all need to recognize that more, and we should take our time to see that and teach others.
In the gospel today Jesus says that if we want to have eternal life we must give up our belongings and follow him.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus knows his death and resurrection. just like Jesus we should carry a cross .
