Prayer Prompt before reading MK 10:32-45 Come, Holy Spirit, teach me how to pray well, interpret the Scriptures for me so that I may know the Truth about who God the Father is and God the Son so that I may know who I am.

“FOR THE SON OF MAN DID NOT COME TO BE SERVED BUT TO SERVE AND TO GIVE HIS LIFE AS A RANSOM FOR MANY.” MK 10:32-45

Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.

Jesus is teaching us how to become a saint. Pride is difficult to conquer, but Jesus teaches us that humility and unselfishness will conquer pride. Jesus teaches us this in the first Beatitude and God teaches us this in the first 3 commandments. Remember, we come from God (His image and likeness; an overflow of His love), we are called to serve Him, and return to Him. His one desire is us.

We are called to wake each day and remember our purpose, to give glory to God in all we do. Jesus teaches us today that one of the best ways we can glorify God is to be like Jesus and serve others. I have selfish thoughts everyday. I am very competitive and want to win everything. It is hard for me to swallow my pride and forgive or ask for forgiveness. I like to be in control.

Do an experiment today. Do nothing that you want and just do what everybody else wants to do (serve) and do it with a joyful Spirit (First, we must stop what we are doing and spend time with others). Then, you will be one step closer to understanding what Christ did for us on the cross.

Bishop Barron says, “We have everything we need to be holy right in front of us, another person.” We are created to be self-gift, to serve God and others. Our Father continues to give through His Son Jesus every day in the sacraments and has given us his Holy Spirit to guide us and interpret the Scriptures.

Today’s challenge: Find areas of your life where you are prideful and become more of a servant in those areas. Remind yourself of who Jesus is (gave His life as a ransom for many) and who we are (sinners). This should bring our pride down a bit.

Be a servant, become a saint!
